All quiet on the western front...
6 days. It had been 6 days since the last recorder contact with the outer ring colonies. Considering how far away they were, any message normally would be received much later, but this was different. 5 colony worlds ranging from Mercury sized to twice the size of earth all went silent, all at once, all sending no distress signal. Receptions was getting worried. Rebel movements were common in far out colonies, but usually we're much less organized, and still held communication for obvious reasons. Something was not right.
A meeting of planet emergency was called, calling all those with a fleet to the table. The goal was simple, find out the problem, get rid of it. First, however, a brief was given on the planets that went dark.
Dranea: A Mercury sized planet famous for its scientific advances in oceanology. 94% of the planet is water. It is in the open, and would be an easy first target due to lack of defenses.
Kalea: The geography division's planet has not seen organized human life in years. Deemed inhabitable due to intense heat and winds, only a small population of scientists remains. Their work has had little success.
New Wandilo: A massive desert planet the size of earth, home to a large population of criminals and runaways. 30% of the planet is made of water, so they often resort to imports from Dranea.
Wandilo: An overcrowded, Venus sized planet. It is just like earth in every way but it's wild life and geography. A perfect place to live, if there wasn't 10 people waiting at every toilet.
Darengar: Possibly the most puzzling, this military research planet should have immediately contacted reception if anything strange was going on. Made mostly of cold oceans and Mountains, this planet is twice the size of earth. The massive asteroid belt around it is great for testing dangerous weapons with little consequence.
Those were the five planets, each with their own quirks and population... And each with their own silence. The meeting leader pronounced that such a threat would require the help of the larger factions, and he called them to action.
Each faction would divide to take one or two planets, with what they felt necessary to bring. Hopefully, it wouldn't be much that they needed.
Alright! Who's ready to make an alliance of armies?! Not me ._.
So listen up, each planet will have its own fleet listed here. Any ??? Are things that need to be genuine surprises and will be kept hidden. I'll list out the strength, and you choose the planet to go to with what you believe to be an equal force. (Gotta have a fun fight.)
Dranea: Possibly the easiest planet, only 15 Yavisk frigates block out it's signals. There also seems to be radio interference combing from a ??? Ship.
Kalea: One Yorshka class heavy destroyer, 15 Yavisk frigates.
New Wandilo: Two Yorshka class heavy destroyers, 20 Yavisk Frigates.
Wandilo: Four Yorshka class heavy Frigates 30
Yavisk frigates and one ??? suspected due to radio interference.
Darengar: Seven Yorshka class heavy destroyers, 50 Yavisk Frigates, 3 ???, and one ???.
Come! Let us duke it out among the stars!
A battlegroup of about 3 capital ships, 5 destroyers, a couple of carriers, and 10 or so frigates entered outside of the defensive screen around New Wandilo. The ships would all get a message broadcast on all signals
DEACTIVATE SHIELDS AND WEAPONRY AND SURRENDER IMMEDIATELY. NO FURTHER WARNING WILL BE GIVEN. YOU HAVE 30 MINUTES TO COMPLY
The battlegroup would immediately form into a formation of Capital and carrier ships in the back, destroyers in the middle, and frigates in the front, just ahead of the destroyers. They were all heavily armed and armoured, seemingly prepared for a siege on the planet itself.
-
New Wandilo itself was a vast desert planet, only part of it seemed to be civilized. However that part was ravaged. Even from the ships' heights, it was clear that the large cities no longer existed. They were completely gone- as if a tidal wave had crushed them under it's boot. The signal would be received by ghost towns. However, what was visible was an absolutely massive cloud of tan colored gas, coming off the right side of the planet. It covered half the ball of rock, and reached miles up, way far out into space. Scans (I assume) would indicate that they were releasing electrical, and thermal energy, at quite high amounts, too. The priest of the Yorshka listened to the message, picking up on its signal with curiosity. He listened... And decided to speak back. Picking the largest ship of the bunch, he spoke to the crew through their minds, an echo of his voice carrying across the cosmos. Surrender? Shields? Minutes? You speek nsemse. Who... You?
-
I am Captain Matthias. You are killing this planet and its people. We wish you to leave. We will fight if you don't. The formation slowly inched towards the defensive screen, shields up and weapons online. A small cloud of fighters formed at the front of the line, followed by bombers, gunships, and dropships carrying boarding equipment. You do not want to fight us.
-
The defensive screen itself was growing at an incredibly fast rate. It had covered 3/4 of the planet rather than just half, and was quickly gaining speed towards the formation. Nyet. Send Frigate- we. In large ship! Negotiate- yesss? The fighters were soon engulfed in the screen, scanners and shields beginning to falter under the constant electrical and thermal energy being released.
-
Disable your screen immediately. We will not negotiate if you continue to attack our men. The Captain warned, his tone calm. A single frigate prepared a crew, and a small detachment of dropships and fighters waited for the screen to clear.
-
The screen cannot be "disabled" is continue to grow. We send ship out? Yes? It seemed that even they had no control over the screen, which seemed to be growing faster as time went on. It seemed they would not back off, or could not.
-
Send it. He said, as the formation readied for possible combat.

Out of the most came a Monstrosity of skin, flesh and a lot of bone. It was seemingly more armored at the front, and oozed small bits of the gas screen around it. It lay dormant for awhile before the voice spoke again. Negotiate- who? Leader?

*grins* Should I use the Imperial fleet on these guys, just to flex? Or should I use something better, but infinitely worse?
-
Use what you believe is equal in power- or slightly over. Is like to have a good fight at least.

A lone supply transport frigate approached New Wandilo. Whoever the pilot was, they must not have gotten the news. Usually when an entire colony planet goes dark, it is cause for alarm. The inhabitants of the cargo ship were either incredibly stupid, ignorant, uninformed... or something very different altogether. The latter would soon be proven when their signal went out, specifically made to only reach those in the New Wandilo orbit. A place where only other madmen would reside in light of the planet's lack of communication.
We are not your enemy. We come bearing an offer.
Two sentences piercing the isolated Black Sea around the planet. Ten words hoping to reach whoever took control of New Wandilo.
-
What met the message was eery silence. However, it did reach the ears of a priest upon one of the Yorshka class cruisers. An obvious attempt at communication. They had picked up on most of the language upon decimating the city and receiving help signals, but it was still shaky. Not... Enemy... Offer... They didn't really have a way to communicate back, the signal only received through a clever examination of (radio?) waves passing through space. The priest thought for a moment, before raising a hand for the followers attending him to send a message back. Their positions were visible now as they approached the lone frigate, but too far to make any details out but the tan color of them. As a chance, the priest spoke to the life forms inside the frigate through their minds, and when he spoke, it seemed a slight wave of power emanated in the room. A slight breeze had picked up in the Yorshka command room. Offer? What... Provde? It seemed that they had less info on words that weren't used in the signal received or help signals from earlier. It would be a bit hard to speak with them.
-
The entire crew of the ship began to panic. The majority of them were just freelance deckhands and rogues, paid handsomely by an unknown benefactor. All they were told was to deliver an ambassador to a part of Coalition space cut off from the rest. Telepathic illiterates and the feeling of mental communication with no consent was not given in what short debrief they had. All but one. The man in the suit never wavered, drinking in the priest's words. They were curious, and their small refitted ship hadn't been destroyed yet. Curiosity was good, he thought. Curiosity was better than hostility.
Meet first. Then we deal.
He cut down the length of the transmission. Judging from the message the priest sent him, they weren't well-versed in the common tongue. So he simplified his messages - better to speak their language than be lost in translation, which would most likely be followed up with being fired upon.
-
Meat? Why would they want meat? (Is joke you made no error.)
The creature contemplated this. But ultimately decided that the frigate would not be a threat. Yes, meet. One of the larger ships in the distance had broken off a small flesh bubble from itself. Despite its size, it moved at incredibly fast speeds. Inside were ten followers and a larger, more deadly captain. It would take awhile before they reached the frigate, but once they did, they needed a way into it. I away... Allies to... Ralloy peint A. It seemed that they were still in the process of learning, but the message they sent was clear enough.
-
The transmission in response was a bit more different in tone.
We speak with leader.
A longer sentence, less simple. But much more demanding. It was not heavy-handed in way, but the speaker - the man in the suit - knew how to negotiate. Asking for someone in charge raised the stakes. They had to let the opposition know that they were not peons. He just had to hope that they weren't as... trivial as aristocrats. Easily offended by the smallest of things.
-
You do. Let in. It seemed they had no intention of letting the followers and captain leave the ship's orbit. Leader speak, let in! The small ball of flesh seemed to try and bounce on the ship's metal, as if trying to ram through. However, it was obviously not going to work. The priest was a little annoyed, all things considered. A small frigate, offers them a deal they have no idea how much it will bring them, then asks to speak with the leader! Oh well, perhaps it was worth it.
-
Aggressive. He was pretty lost in translation, but he could understand that much at least. They were getting impatient. He wasn't sure if they were walking about their leader or the leader aboard the frigate. The man in the suit shrugged. He would soon find out. The waste disposal doors opened up, huge gates of metal unlocking their key-like teeth. An invitation for the ball of flesh.

The sack made its way through, and when inside, melted around the group of soldiers inside. It seemed that they had weapons, and with their grotesque appearances, seemed rather threatening. The followers came out first, gnashing their teeth and barking at the surrounding area. They were followed by a Captain with his black gun, purple crystals sticking out the top. He put a hand up to calm the followers, and looked around. Leedr.
-
Surprisingly, the armed force wasn't met by security or soldiers. There was only one recipient waiting for them in the repurposed garbage loader. It was a rugged Chinese man, looking to be in his mid-thirties. Faustian facial hair covered his face; a well-groomed moustache and a dab of hair under his bottom lip. He wore a typical black and white suit with a classic red tie. The only thing seemingly abnormal about him was his eyes. There was something that went beyond the charisma he wore on his face. The captain's image distorted in the spherical reflection of the man's eyes, twisting beyond normal limitations, purple crystals swirling in a Warhol-like pattern within his pupils... But luckily, none of them were close enough to see that. "That would be me," he answered, confident in tone, "now where's yours?"
-
Edited by Atom: 12/3/2017 10:33:31 PMWith a grunt of laughter aimed at the man, the captain took a follower by the shoulder and pushed him forward. The follower fell to the ground, and the captain spoke. Here. Leader. Speak what want. The follower began carving runes on the ground with a bullet from his gun, the heat burning the metal floor. 6 dots, joined together as eyes of sorts. They seemed to glow a dark purple as the follower's arm began to shake, the purple light spread up his arm and to his head. His eyes glowed in the same color- the body twisting and contorting on the floor.

The Faustian man smiled charmingly, surprisingly undisturbed by the convulsing body. "I'm assuming you're the one in charge? I can only hope that you speak a more... conventional tongue. If not, it is quite alright. After all, my job is specifically finding a common language to speak." There was something about the way he said his last statement. A hint of emphasis on 'common language'; a slight pause just enough to bring attention to it. It was articulated, the words most likely being a replacement for another. An eloquent title for an unseen truth. But that all depended on the Hive leader's speech skills.
-
The follower by now had gotten up, the fire beginning to burn away the armor on his body, soon to be his skin. When it- he- the leader, spoke, it radiated a certain power, and the fire burned brighter. The follower was oddly still compared to the convulsing it had done before. Nyet- Language? Speaking grounds? I have encountered your kind before. Me, somewhere else, some other time. Yumans, you are called, star hunters with little power but infinite potential. It seemed that the leader knew how to speak the language, something sure to be helpful in the conversation. With every word, a pained expression entered the follower's face, and a chunk of his bone like armor fell off. He remained still.
-
"Infinite potential," the Faustian man mused, "I like that. No matter where you or every other star-travelling force goes, there's always humans. Resilient as ever, I suppose." His eyes traced the follower's deteriorating form, finally meeting the grunt's face and studying it. He searched the dry and vaguely humanoid face of the follower, drinking in its facial expression. Within himself, empathized with the being in front of him on a level far beyond human. He felt the pain of the zealous soldier, having his very essence torn apart just for the sake of his leader communicating. But he felt no sympathy for the creature. "Who are you, exactly? Or more importantly, what are you a part of?"
-
The creature fell on one knee, and then just as before remained utterly still, its right arm reduced to ash by the slowly consuming fire. The voice spoke out again in response to the man's question. Make no mistake, yuman. I am both all and nothing- rather a desire. A culmination of that desire, that will... To eat. Consume. Destroy everything in one's path to make themselves feel better, or put themselves above others. It never goes away- never dies out. Yumans, animals... They all have a hunger for something, someone. I am that hunger. The flames grew brighter for a quick moment as the thing spoke again. Years ago, a yuman planet attempted to be rid of me- a religion where they had no desire... But I was far bigger than they could imagine. I am Hunger, I am thirst. I am the will to achieve power. A chuckle arose from the followers in the back, hearing the words of the great one was both a privilege and a curse, they were sure to be killed out of jealousy when they returned. On the other hand, they had the level of importance as a priest. And that- will never go away. Only recently I have seen it arise. A planet not far from here full of people wishing to better themselves. I seek to investigate.
