Before anyone says that it's people like me, who's fault it is that D2 is like this, can you honestly say Destiny 1 didn't get better with time? Can you honestly say they didn't make improvements with their content? Can you honestly say you preferred D1 year 1 to D1 year 3, or hell even Year 2?[/quote]
Actually, I can say with a straight face that from a core game play standpoint, Y1 was the best era this game ever had. You can say what you want to about D1's broken story (no arguments there) and unforgiving RNG, but the game was legitimately FUN, and we never lacked motivation to play the game. Every single activity was geared towards progressing your character somehow. Bounties helped unlock perk nodes on gear and get you upgrade materials. Public events allowed you to obtain upgrade materials. Strikes offered a slight chance of getting legendary engrams and simultaneously helped rank up your vanguard to allow you to obtain legendary gear the hard way if it didn't drop.
ENDGAME PVE was truly at its high point. The endgame loot was amazing and actually made a difference.
And there was always a white whale to chase.
Since TTK released, the endgame grind was converted into nothing more than a grind for cosmetics, NONE of the endgame loot was hands-down superior to anything else you could get in the game, strikes were converted to the endgame by way of 3oC, and light level stopped being so important. Elite tier gear was watered down or nerfed, elemental primaries went away, all the games best stuff was given away by quest, meaning the endgame really had no purpose except for a grind to get cosmetics.
Overall, I don't consider any of those things improvements. To be completely fair, Destiny 2 just takes everything I hated about the Post HoW era and puts it all on steroids. That's not an improvement IMO. Sure, the story started to get slightly better and the game improved for casuals, but the core gameplay IMO was eroded because the game lost its structure. They streamlined things so much that once meaningful activities like bounties were largely irrelevant for most of Y2/Y3.
And the nerfs. UGH. The nerfs to all of our favorite gear as the game progressed because Bungie refused to fully separate PVE from PVP.
Overall, D1 got marginally better in SOME areas and took some major steps back in other areas. And those steps back are what they apparently built D2 upon. I don't think they're willing to go back to the Y1 formula that made this game so fun and addicting that I and many others couldn't put it down for several months straight.

The second Bungie removed elemental damage from raid weapons is when D1 began to slide downhill. The next push was giving back said raid weapons in the form of exotics. Just my opinion.

"addicting" Yeah. No thanks.

BUMP BUMP BUMP.

Yeah damn...I️ don’t miss any of that crap tbh Maybe the vault weapons...which were over powered and no brainer choices to do everything with But leveling guns Leveling armor Grinding materials for the armor and in the beginning you needed wire, steel and that other crap It wasn’t just armor materials like it is now... Blues from purples Sometimes getting nothing but materials from the raid That’s right Nothin Just shards Whoooo Yeah no thanks You can have that bud Thank god you don’t design this game You idiots don’t know what you want First it’s to hard Then it’s to easy Just stfu and play the game or move on

The reason why the "community" doesn't seem to know what it wants is because there's too many interests that are incompatible. And Bungie hasn't accepted that if you want to cater to ALL of these crowds, you need to offer separated/compartmentalized modes that cater to each of them. Honestly, it sounds to me like if you didn't like the grind in D1, you didn't really want to play a loot-grinder in the first place. You likely just wanted a standardized FPS and should have been playing that from the beginning.

Dude i had like 70 days in D1 To not of gotten god rolls on guns such as eyasluna or a long bow when they were top tier is pathetic So yeah when scrub a dub dub gets one in his first match and when that weapon with the perfect perks has an advantage over everything else Yeah Its bullshit Im happy with the way they have the rolls now Now if people want random rolls for pve Have at it But pvp No

destiny one lol if you seriously think destiny 1 was better then you must be mentally ill, it took 3 years to make the base game and 3 more years to get it to the point its at now destiny 2 has way more potential in terms of time the base game of d2 already has double the things to do than base d1 the only thing is, is there isnt incentive to do half the shit in d2 but it is there so please next time you go on a salty rant please note that both suck d2 has more potential and the dick riders and the hater are both wrong cause the grey medium no one talks about is actually the correct one

but you should compare des1 + dlcs to des2 vanilla !!

Damn man you just kicked in a heavy dose of nostalgia..you made me miss everything about d1. Sadly I uninstalled it and my disc drive is absolutlely shot so d1 is a mere memory. Hopefully We can be space gods again. Until then I will be a basic guardian just like everyone else. We're all basic. We're all the same. Your skill means nothing. I am an ordinary worlock.. but I look so sick bruh.

This is what I miss about Destiny and why I switched to Warframe
-
Ok. Bye.

Same I have a foot out the door on the Destiny franchise and atm it is resting on the floor of the hype train for Warframe. Waiting on the PoE release. :D

Bungie shifted focus to PvP at HoW because they realized they were incapable of providing the top notch PvE experuence they initially hoped for. PvE was probably at its best during TDB. After that it was just layered RNG to prolong the grind.
-
I agree. I don’t think they are ever going back to that “fun” formula unless there is total separation of PvE and PvP.
-
Agreed!

I've always found it frustrating that TTK received almost universal praise and was widely regarded as a major improvement to the formula when (in my mind) it completely ruined the game. Sure, some minor QoL improvements were added as well as a handful of new features that were certainly welcome, but the core of the game (as you mentioned) was destroyed. As far as vanilla being the best time in D1's lifespan, I think the HoW era is more deserving of that title, simply due to the addition of Etheric Light. That's not to say vanilla wasn't fun, however. On the contrary, it had (in my opinion) the most enjoyable Crucible meta and the best selection of weapons and gear. That being said, I still consider HoW slightly superior since it offered players an unprecedented level of choice by making old content relevant again.
