[spoiler]as far as the story for NeiR automata, earth was ruined by an alien species and is now filled with ruins and machine life forms. Humans supposedly retreated to the moon and are now fighting a proxy war using androids (what 13B is) to wipe out the machine population. I'd say more but then it would be going into spoiler material[/spoiler]
