Destiny 1 had incentive, Destiny 2 does not. Destiny 1 was super lackluster in content, but you could grind out strikes and crucible for the weapon rolls, which is replayability. Destiny 2 has the content going for it, but no replayability.
As for the three character argument that everyone like to bring up - replaying a campaign and doing the same things on multiple characters does not equal content lol. You play the same missions, in the same zones as the time before turning in the same tokens for the same gear, doing the same exotic missions for the same exotics. The only thing that changes is my fire sword is now a fire gun. Yay content.

You're forgetting how much hate there was towards that grind, people bitched it was a trap used to hide the lack of content. The forever 27/28/29 was real, the invalidation of gear before infusing was a nightmare, new currencies too often with too specific uses that forced an endless grind was attrocious. These werent things to celebrate and they were things that the community loathed. That's why it changed every DLC until TTk, because it -blam!-ing sucked. I would honestly love to see a double blind test where two people who have never even heard of Destiny were forced to play both vanilla versions. It would have to be out of order. So specimen 1 plays D2 first, then D1 and specimen 2 plays D1 fisrt, then d2.

Nobody, not a single buyer, wanted a Destiny 1 day 1 remake. Destiny 2 is not a continuation, it is not an integral part of a 10 year project. It is the second three year project from Bungie in 4 year. And it is the lesser game because they had all of Destiny 1 to use as a foundation, but they tossed all that aside.

I actually didn’t mind D1 in the beginning. All the way up until HoW I enjoyed it. I started a month or so after the game dropped though. I don’t like stuff handed to me. It actually felt rewarding to put time into destiny in the first year it was out. Exotics were badass and hard to obtain. I prefer that over mediocre(at best) exotics that are so easy to get it’s insane. I also liked that the only way to reach max level was through the raid. It was nice that they added in max gear to IB as well bc they were only giving out 2 pieces of gear each IB. Other than that and the NF, I don’t believe max gear should be handed out unless it’s an exotic. Why do I want to get on a game that just gives me the same weapons and armor over and over again? It doesn’t make any sense to me. And it’s all mediocre. Our abilities are mediocre. Everything about the game is mediocre. I will keep my copy of the game and maybe login every once in a while until the dlc drops and I see what everyone is saying about it. If changes aren’t made then I will be 100% done.

But the game dies when you get the god roll everyone’s looking for. And the crucible is literally that setup and only that setup. I think that’s a terrible way to play and a waste of my time to grind for weapon that you absolutely must have to be competitive in the crucible.
