Long Ago
Rain pattered against the moss covered stone paths of an old ruined castle. The rocks that were so precisely placed into the earth long ago were now cracked. The masterfully etched and crafted blocks of marble that once were the stable foundations to a kingdom now lay crumbled and displayed with no grace or dignity. Remains of skillfully forged tools that were made with blood, sweat, tears, and long hours of work now abandoned on the streets, rust covered with no owners to claim them.
When did the world get so cruel?
The sound of metal boots marching along the road were like deafening drums to my ears. My heart raced as they grew near.
This is the end…
My house of rubble and rotted wood couldn’t hide me from their prying eyes. The’d find me. I’ll be dead soon.
...the end of my life...
Their footsteps were nearing, my body shook in fear. I sat there paralyzed by fear, mind undecided on whether to run or accept my fate.
...and the beginning of my story.
There was only one way out and I knew it. I couldn’t possibly run away, there was an army waiting outside to catch me. I couldn’t fight, my body was growing weak from lack of treatment.
Someday, someone will find me…
With every ounce of my strength and will, I concentrated on the little power I had left in me. I dipped down into every reserve I had. I had to make this count or it would all be for nothing.
...and hopefully I’ll be of some use…
Luckily I had just the item on me for the job. I pulled it out and the gold shimmered from the little light that fell through the cracks.
...and may they find peace…
“In here!” They screamed, having found me. It was too late however, I had already begun the ritual.
...for I never will.
Forever bound to this blade,
My soul and spirit,
Unbreakable this bond,
Until peace falls once more,
Upon the rolling hills,
Under the setting sun,
Unknown love now found.
“Try and kill me now...f*ckers.”

Present Day
The sun was shining bright as you trained, honing your skills. For some reason you noticed yourself doing extra well, you had more endurance, strength, accuracy. Everything was perfect...until you tripped like an idiot. You looked down to see what you tripped on and see something gold jutting out of the ground. It shines in the sunlight, as if begging for you to see what it is.
Open. See if thou art worthy.
"....The puns won't help you. They'd make me squirm in discomfort if I still had a body."
-
"Sorry about that... anyways, why do you even want an owner? Why not just be free? Stab whoever you want and not have to listen to someone?"
-
"I can't move and I can't break free of this sword unless my owner does something. I also wouldn't mind helping someone who's actually competent."
-
"You can break free? How?"
-
"I'm not allowed to just openly say that. I can however say it has to do with peace."
-
"Is it some cliche garbage where you find a troubled owner and help them find peace which lets you get free and find peace yourself?"
-
"Oh f*ck no! That would suck. How cliche do you think I am?"
-
"I mean... you are an Excalibur ripoff with the whole 'worthy owner' thing."
-
"Woah. One trait that's not even similar. That sword couldn't be pulled from the ground unless the owner was the rightful king. I technically can be used by anyone if I feel like letting them use me."
-
"Good point... either way, I'll be your owner."
-
"No. Sorry, but I don't like you and I highly doubt you would ever succeed at setting me free."
-
"Well you're not a joy to be around either. I was just trying to help you be free."
-
"Hey, I can be joyful....Also, thank you for trying, but I really don't think that's a good idea."
-
"Why not?"
-
"You're not a warrior or hero or...whatever."
-
"How would you know that? I'm a warrior AND a hero."

As Leon tripped he rolled, turning as he stood up and looking down at the object. He kneeled down to get a closer look at it, putting down the two swords he had been training with
-
The object appeared to be part of a golden hilt that was buried partially under the ground.
-
Leon grabbed one of his swords, beginning to dig the hilt up with the flat of his blade, the wide surface making it a half-decent tool
-
Out from the ground he dugout a whole sword. The whole hilt was golden, but the handle had some leather over top as grip and on the bottom of the pommel was a grey gem. The blade appeared to look like it were made out of pure silver. "Wha-? Oh look, a person." The sword seemed to talk with a female voice. "How's it going?"
-
Leon looked around for the source of the voice, a talking sword not really being his first idea
-
"Hey, seriously? I'm down here, man. Look at me when I talk to you. It's not nice to just go silent and look everywhere, but the person that's talking to you."
-
he looked down at that sword, somewhat surprised "Sorry, I'm just not used to having a sword talk to me."
-
"Yeah, can't blame you. People usually scream honestly....Anyway, thank you for not throwing me like the last person."
-
"To be quite honest, this crap doesn't really phase me anymore. I should've expected this."
