Surrender Option?

No clue how to start posts but I'll start by making the point that the mercy rule in this game is jacked as it only activates 5% of the time. Why don't we just add a surrender option but only after half the game timer has been passed. At the very least so it's not abused by countless surrendering back to back? Obviously your mercy rule needs a rework since it's only activated in the first couple minutes of a match. Why not give us the capability to surrender to the enemy team requiring 4/4 votes. It's a better alternative than having to squash or be squashed in the first couple minutes of the game in order JUST TO GET TOKENS. I only just thought of it after being destroyed in a 39-98 match and it not ending sooner. I get destroyed and do the destroying. But if I'm owned by 40 points let me just surrender after half the match passed so I may go on with a relaxing non stressful day. I thought of this idea from remembering battleborn when it was relevant. I'm done venting and ranting. Post what you think below. I guess. Or don't. You're not my child.

  • I've suffered through worse games, worst being 14 to 100. But agreed, there needs to be a way to surrender. One way I heard that I think would be smart is if all the players on a team just sat down for 5 seconds to trigger the mercy.

  • You're absolutely right. This happend in the Iron banner where I played games where it would be 23 - 100. My fireteam would crush enemy teams with numbers like those and vice versa, yet never did mercy rule kick in. People keep saying there's a mercy rule, and if I hadn't played the beta I'd swear everyone was lying, b/c it just takes too much to trigger. Then when someone inevitably rage quits, that adds more the deficit. Plus, if a random does fill in that spot, it highly unlikely they'll want to stay for a game where they'll get crushed. Unless that random is on Krafty levels of carrying, it won't end well for the loosing team. Spare the rod. #MakeMercyRuleGreatAgain

Early in IB last week, Tuesday or Wednesday, we won 100 to 18 (no joke). Yeah, I'm not sure what the mercy rule could be, or if it even works.

      • Personally, I like this idea. As you've mentioned, it would be best if the option is only available after a certain time passed, only activates if all players of a team agree to surrender, and (personal idea) after your team is behind by a good amount of points. This should then trigger an automatic Mercy, which ends the game after ten seconds. This would also go well with introducing a penalty for quitting a match (especially for those who quit matches early). Last I would mention that this could still be exploited, so I would introduce a no reward policy for the losing team, if they decide to surrender. That would (hopefully) lower the amount of players/teams who would intentionally play bad and surrender just to get loot faster. The winning team should still receive rewards however.

        • Surrender voting will make things much more stressful, look at games like Smite. That game has a surrender vote and if someone doesn't get their way they start throwing the match on purpose more often than not. Do not enable the worst of us to have an excuse to be more toxic than they already are.

        • Several times both outside and inside Battle Arena i try more than the same every way to shotgun. Why? Meega hones the blades only to have spilling resurgence of kilos all over the ground. Watadushane is both groping and reaching in the middle of battle! Where I reach? Down the throat? When ever to shotgun in d1 I was like zeus. Now to shotgun as weight ammo catagory I have no chance ever to go or come kill everything. D2 graphics like pure mountains spring and natures melody in heat. But for me, ignakasa never more than rumour always reaching, always groping. I hope to bungie changes.

I'm down with this. Otherwise, people just quit the match and leave the team struggling even more. On the last day of IB, all the sweats were out. My friends and I had a party of 3 and believe it or not, matchmaking was able to insert us into an active match. Apparently, 3 a-holes quit the match. That 1 person who was left had to get spawn-killed continuously until we arrived. And what do you know, we all got spawn-killed on arrival and pretty much throughout the rest of the match.

I think people dont fully understand how mercy works...if the enemy team get 10-14 points before you get 50 (i believe) it wont activate. Because to the game you can be winning 99-15 but thats not a slaughter because they got a whole 15 points.

I think it might be a decent idea to have the mercy rule effective for the first half of a match, and surrender option effective for the second half. I think the mercy rule should change according to game type though, since I have seen some huge point swings in control. A team can appear to be dominating a control match, but the losing team gets a power play in the last 2 minutes and comes back to win

                  • Saw a thread where someone said mercy shouldn't require the lead it does. Cosmo replied, said the team is aware and looking at it. I assume by the next dlc mercy won't be so hard to achieve.

                    • I honestly feel like it goes against the point of the crucible but I suppose I'm not opposed so long as the surrendering teams gets no rewards.

Especially in circumstances that Bungie's matchmaking routinely creates -- getting crushed, teammates quit and you never get any new teammates. The only other option is to quit yourself, or suffer through it ... think about that. Bungie created a game that makes its players suffer through something for a measly token.

                        • There already is a 'Surrender' option. It's called 'Going to orbit'. PvP in this game sucks ass... Now that I've hit 305 with all 3 classes, I won't even play for the "Call to Arms" milestone anymore. TBH, hardly playing PvE anymore either.

                          • That would. Be nice, so next time iron banner comes me and my friends will just let them kill us within 1 minute and surrender. So 2 tokens per minute vs 5 tokens per 8 minutes. Unless they do surrender is only applicable after certain amount of time, but if it is based on score lead then it is possible to get mercy within 1 minute or 2. In the end losing purposely will earn you more tokens faster, but it would be good for the winner too. Hahaha
