She threw the axe but the moment it reached the end of the simulated room the metal portion seemed to vanish into thin air leaving nothing but a wooden handle

The impact revealed nothing was there but cloth being held up by a scabbard. The reality was she got some distance with a hand full of dummy knives and threw them in a scatter.
