Static Gun Rolls Killed Playability

I can't be the only one who thinks getting a perfect roll or constantly trying to was one of the main aspects of the original and had us coming back for more? Now I see everything for what it really is.. reskinned and recolored with no real differences. Levelling my guns to get a feel for them and unlocking the perks that felt signifcant were a huge part of the experience and without that it feels very empty.. It's kind of sad and since it is this way I don't see any 'U turn' coming any time soon on that route. Edit: I'm definitely leaning more towards the randomization of perks or the addition of a way to customize the perks, and not the levelling of guns itself. It was something I felt needed brought up in relation to guns in the original.

  • I don't agree, let's not go back to trying to get a gun for months only to finally get an absolutely shitty roll. That is artificially extending playtime, nothing more. If we DO go back to changing rolls, make each faction have particular perks available ONLY AT THAT FACTION. PvP based perks from Shaxx, for example. A nice mixture between neutral factions, PvE only for Zavala and Ikora.

    • This could be fixed easy if they just added 1 more mod slot for legendary weapons and armour, u could then really have an ability to customise your loadout, they could even have it so u was only aloud 1 purple mod and 1 blue, what's that u say u want armour with solar defence and quick reloaded of your kinetic ! U pick it ! After all isn't this what we had in D1 ? But just randomised ?

    • I hated random roll weapons, trying to get that specific imago loop was the most boring and frustrating thing I've ever attempted, and I never did end up getting it because RNG just wouldn't have it. Had to have RNG drop the weapon first of all and even if you did get the weapon you had to hope RNG put a good roll on it, which almost never happened. It was a good thing VoG came back so I could just get the Fatebringer instead... Because I knew it was a static perk gun.

    • This is why i disagree. Farming that perfect roll on a gun wasn't fun, and it isn't skill. Once you consider drop rates and play time, honestly the whole thing was a crap shoot even for players with lots of time to throw at the game. The best and most iconic weapons in the game were the ones that came with a standard set a perks, in addition to faction guns that showed you what you were getting ahead of time. Their isn't any less "top tier" weapons in D2 than there was in D1, just less mediocre garbage. I guess a loss is a loss, but honestly you can keep and that mediocre junk, i'm only farming for that god tier loot.

    • It was to balance PvP. Weapon balance in D1 was almost un-achievable due to random weapon perks. I know what you are saying because I can't even count the number of times I ran The Undying Mind to get the perfect Imago Loop but PvP is much better off with set perks on guns.

Couldn't be more pleased than I am right now with static rolls and no mida doesn't need a nerf people just need to learn to counter it Treat Midas and scout rifles as the new sniper rifles. Stay out of lanes and close the gaps

        • I think it's fine because they're going to make more then have a large collection of powerful competitive guns after dlc's now that they are editing guns individually.

They dumbed down everything from the weapons to the skills. I guess it was to hard to figure out a good roll or how to build your subclass depending on what activities your doing. Let's not forget about the armor. I believe Bungie's philosophy is if everyone has a god roll, no one has a god roll.

        • Maybe or maybe they should have 5 times the amount of weapons to grind for with more archetypes. Either way I should not have every weapon after 2 weeks. There needs to be an endgame and there is no endgame at the moment

          • It definitely took the RPG right out if this game. I used to have like 5 palindrome, I'd have my add clearing one, my range one, my reload one, my PvP one... That stuff is so fun to me. I agree they needed to eliminate some randomness, as there were too many terrible perks, but they shouldnt have ditched it completely.

i agree 100%. if they wanted to make static rolls but keep the grind they should have at least made there be a ton more legendaries to get. but nope, i have my nameless midnight, annual skate, mananan, and curtain call and i'm set. no more gear grind because i already have all the best guns and they all have the same roll.

            • Yeah Well...No compassion there...The community got what they asked for... People always complaining that they got destroyed by a better weapon in PVP because they didn't get their perfect god roll or that RNG is screwing them in every activity in the whole game. Well...Bungie removed both rerollable weapon perks and RNG just as the community BEGGED for and this is what's left over but most people don't seem to realise what they were screaming for because of all the salt and envy over the other person's weapon roll that destroyed them... People don't seem to realise that it's the RNG that keeps them coming back, not the "Exotic quests" or something like that... Getting a random legendary or exotic drop in pvp while being last was the shit man, it was a thrill. Now....nothing...Every weapon accessible for everyone, everywhere because otherwise you get PVP whiners and Salty Guardians because the other one has a gun you don't have and vica versa. People need to realise that not having (access to) every gun is what makes it special... Also, not gonna lie but the mods system could be WAY better for replayability. Give us something that could upgrade our armour and gear to have maybe 2 different mods in my armour or only 1 more powerfull mod in a single-slot-armour mod if you get what I mean. Do the same with weapons, give them "firefly" mods "HCR", "tracking"...Make it crazy...As long as everyone has acces to do the same as they like to please. Eventually everyone will settle for the best in pvp but it gives us creativity in PVE...

              • The problem, in my opinion, isn't the lack of random/god rolls. It is the absolute lack of weapon options. If they made static rolls, then we needed diablo size loot numbers. Hundreds upon hundreds of different weapons. Really up the number of guns in the RNG pool, so when you finally get that gun you wanted, it feels special. To the point you rarely ever encounter it in PvP. Now, we just get the same weapons over and over.

                • I don't miss the god roll grinding. Not every player had that kind of time and then you would get smoked in crucible with some guy running thenultimate set ups in six man bank squads and people would quit over it. Now, Having slightly different options on exotics I miss. And filling up an xp bar wasn't bad. But for those who don't have that kind of time, i understand they didn't like it.

I hated random rolls. They were the worst. I hated getting an awesome gun only to see that it wasn't considered good because of its randomly assigned perks. I already worked to get the gun to randomly drop, why do we need to randomly assign perks to make my gun randomly good or not? How much randomness do you want?? I was under the impression that this community didn't like rng...

                • Haha, random rolls killed Destiny 1 for me. I was having fun, then the game became all about who got 300+ different Grasp of Malok rolls and finally got a good one. At least now, I only have to get the damn gun to drop. That's hard enough as is with some weapons.

                • At first I thought the idea was alright, but now I'm at a point where I have nothing to go for anymore and since most guns aren't very good because they have bad rolls I end up deleting majority of them

                • Im happy they removed random rolls. Easier to get the gun you want and enjoy the game with it rather than grind for the gun only to get it just before an update comes out and makes it irrelevant. Also, not sure why people want to do the same activities over to level a new gun. It was fun in y1, but I was just pumping motes into everything in y3.
