Destiny Fiction Producers Writer's Contest

Art by Cyborg4281 The contest is now closed! Thank you to all that participated! The winner of the first DFP Writer's Contest is Morc35! Everyone did a great job, and it was a difficult decision for the judges, but Morc's story was the one we all agreed on. Once again, great work, everyone! To celebrate the release of the beta early access for Destiny 2, and to keep the interest up, Destiny Fiction Producers is hosting a contest for the community. The challenge is to write a Destiny short-story, down in the comment section below that best portrays your version of "a world without Light". The contest begins today, July 18th, and will end on August 18th. All submissions after that will not be included in the judging. All you have to do is post your story in the comments section, but remember, you have five weeks to write, edit, and post your work. The winner will be announced on August 20th, the following Sunday. The winner will receive a code for a $20 Playstation Store card or a $20 Xbox Store card as the prize. Rules: 1) This is a friendly competition, so keep the comments nice and/or constructive. 2) If you want to edit your story after it is posted, go ahead, just leave #Finished to let the judges know it is ready. 3) Please do not post your story multiple times. The judges will read them all. 4) Be original. If two stories seem identical, and it is difficult to confirm which was the original, then the judges will skip over both and move on to the next. Theme: Just as is the theme of Destiny 2, the theme of this contest is "A world without Light". It is up to you to interpret that. Prize: The winner will be announced on August 20th, and will receive a $20 gift card for Playstation or Xbox. Prize Redemption: I will private message the winner of the contest, and I will send one code for the aforementioned gift card based on personal preference. Keep fighting, Guardians

 • #Finished The rain fell hard as smoke and ashes rose into the cold gray skies. Civilians ran screaming, panicking, trying to find their children or parents. This was the worst possible thing that could have happened to the guardians and the city. A hunter, female in stature, coughed and gagged as she struggled to push the rubble of the building she had been in from her body. Reports had come in across all channels that the cabal had assaulted the tower and the traveler. She cried out as the pain of broken bones coursed through. “Erix!!” She cried out for her ghost. There was no response. It was then that she looked over and saw her ghost lying there, lifeless and motionless. She gritted her teeth as she pushed through the pain, only to move the slab of concrete a few inches. “Ori!!” a familiar voice called out from above her. “Ela, my ghost, I cant...” she cried as she pushed again. “Silas, help me get this off of her!!” the other female yelled. Ori was panicking. She cried as she reached for her ghost. This was the first time she had ever been without her ghost or the ability to communicate with her ghost. It was but a few moments more before her two friends had removed the slab. “Erix!!!” she screamed as she grabbed her ghost, bringing it to her chest. “Ori...” Ela said softly. Ori removed her helmet, her messy raven locks soaking in the rain. Violet hued irises gazed at the lifeless ghost in her hands. Tears rolled down her cheeks, mixing with the rain. A firm hand gripped her left shoulder. Ori turned to see Silas, the titan of their group. “Ori, in the assault, our link to the traveler was cut… Everything is gone” Ori struggled to stand to her feet, it was now obvious that she had broken several ribs. She breathed heavily as she tucked her ghost into a small case she had bought before tucking it away in the hood of her cloak. No light. No Abilities. Nothing. How were they going to fight back? Ela held Ori’s helmet up to her, making the motion to put it on. Ori sighed and placed her helmet back on her head, watching her HUD pop back up. She had nothing. “We need to move...” Ela said as she offered Ori a sidearm. “Move? TO WHERE?!?!?!” Ori screamed, “There is no more light, we cant fight back, we are nothing anymore” Silas sighed and walked off. He clearly wasn’t in the mood for any of this. Ela just watched as he strolled away, shaking her head. Ori gripped the sidearm, turning to throw it at Silas but was stopped as Ela grabbed her wrist. Ori glared at Ela who simply responded by shaking her head. It was that moment that Silas had stopped and looked over his shoulder at them. “With or without light, with or without the traveler, we are still guardians, Ori, and it is our duty to protect the people and give them a safe place to live. A retreat order has been issued, we are to go to a place called the farm” he said, “Now either you come willingly or as your second in command I will drag you there myself. I intend to find a way to fight, and maybe regain our light” A little girl tugged on Ori’s cloak. She turned to see the child covered in mud, blood running down the side of her face. Ori’s eyes widened. She hadn’t yet fully realized the scale and magnitude of the destruction the cabal attack had caused. “I wanted to give you this, its not much… and I know you’ve lost something precious to you, so I want you to have my night light…” Ori choked. This little girl was willing to give her light to help her, even though they had essentially failed to protect everyone. She knelt down, placing her hands on the childs face, wiping away the blood and mud with her fingers. “I still believe in the guardians, and I know you will find what you lost, but until then this can guide your way” Ori smiled, though the child could not see it. She took the small light from the child and handed her the vanguard patch she had earned after many missions. The child looked up at her, confused. “So long as you believe, I too will believe. Regardless of this new world in which we now live, I promise to keep pushing forward and take our home back” she said as she placed the light in her ammo pouch, “Ela, Silas, we are going to the farm”
