Destiny Fiction Producers Writer's Contest

Art by Cyborg4281 The contest is now closed! Thank you to all that participated! The winner of the first DFP Writer's Contest is Morc35! Everyone did a great job, and it was a difficult decision for the judges, but Morc's story was the one we all agreed on. Once again, great work, everyone! To celebrate the release of the beta early access for Destiny 2, and to keep the interest up, Destiny Fiction Producers is hosting a contest for the community. The challenge is to write a Destiny short-story, down in the comment section below that best portrays your version of "a world without Light". The contest begins today, July 18th, and will end on August 18th. All submissions after that will not be included in the judging. All you have to do is post your story in the comments section, but remember, you have five weeks to write, edit, and post your work. The winner will be announced on August 20th, the following Sunday. The winner will receive a code for a $20 Playstation Store card or a $20 Xbox Store card as the prize. Rules: 1) This is a friendly competition, so keep the comments nice and/or constructive. 2) If you want to edit your story after it is posted, go ahead, just leave #Finished to let the judges know it is ready. 3) Please do not post your story multiple times. The judges will read them all. 4) Be original. If two stories seem identical, and it is difficult to confirm which was the original, then the judges will skip over both and move on to the next. Theme: Just as is the theme of Destiny 2, the theme of this contest is "A world without Light". It is up to you to interpret that. Prize: The winner will be announced on August 20th, and will receive a $20 gift card for Playstation or Xbox. Prize Redemption: I will private message the winner of the contest, and I will send one code for the aforementioned gift card based on personal preference. Keep fighting, Guardians

A world without light. The beginning. #Finished Deep in the jungles of Venus a lone guardian is stalking Vex. His ghost was getting readings from a conflux but how far away they weren't sure. The vex had suffered major losses lately due to a particularly highly skilled guardian. This guardian was a hunter like himself. Somehow in a short amount of time he had mastered solar, arc, and void energies and used those abilities with deadly precision. He was there at the fall of Atheon, Crota, Skolas, Oryx, and Aksis. How is one guardian linked to all those event's? Is it fate? I'd like to get on that action. It must be pure luck. There's a big celebration going on right now praising those victories and here I am knee deep in mud on clean up duty, he thought to himself. Sure I'm a deadeye with my golden gun but I've got a lot to learn. He should have stayed for the festivities but he felt out of place. He felt much more comfortable out in the wild on patrol. The Hunter was so deep in thought, he almost didn't notice that his ghost suddenly stopped as almost frozen in mid air. "What is it the vex?!" "Are they nearby?" "Ghost answer me you're creeping me out." "We have to go now!" The guardian had never sensed fear from his ghost before. He could tell something was very very wrong. "What is it? What's got you so worked up?" "The traveler is in great dang..... " All of a sudden the ghost started shaking violently and it's light flickered uncontrollably. "Ghost what's happening!" "What do I do!" Then the ghost fell to the ground like it was made out of lead. The Hunter stood there for a moment confused, angry, and scared. He had never felt such a rush of emotion before. Then without warning it felt as if his soul was being ripped from his body by some invisible attacker. He spun around and fell to the ground in a crumpled heap, as his light, his power, his purpose for being was sucked from his body. He laid there for a few minutes with his eyes closed. Maybe this is it he thought. Maybe after countless resurrections in the crucible and in the field I'm finally dead. If that were true though I probably wouldn't feel like I have the worst hangover I've ever had in my life. He opened his eyes and there inches from his face almost touching his nose lay his ghost. He had no idea what the hell just happened. Reaching out he grabbed his ghost hoping it would miraculously spark back to life. "Guess I should have listened to Marcus." Marcus a titan and member of his regular fire team had told him he needed to slow down to enjoy the quiet moments. Maybe he was right. I could be enjoying a spicy bowl of ramen noodles right now instead of being in this mess. "Well no use in crying over spilled milk." He swept up his lifeless ghost stumbled to his feet and slung his scout rifle over his shoulder. Thinking if I just hang around here I will be dead. He wasn't sure exactly what happened didn't really understand it. He could feel it though. The loss of his light the loss of his connection to his ghost and the traveler. It almost felt as if half of him had died just now. This incredible sense of loss and loneliness began to over take him. But how? Why? He was alone now. There was no way to contact anyone. He had lost access to his sparrow and ship. He was still a guardian a hunter damnit. Light or no light. I will find out what's happening and I will have vengeance on whoever or whatever has caused this. Then he remembered that there was an old guardian outpost not far from his location. He still had whatever gear he had with him and still felt capable of taking out a few vex. There hadn't been any fallen activity in the area for a while now. I can make it there, I know I can. Perhaps when he got there he may find some supplies hopefully a weapons cache and some ammunition. There may even be a way to contact the tower from there if the comms still work. At least he had something to focus on to keep his mind occupied. Stay alive and make it to the outpost then I can worry about other things. It was starting to get dark. With his ghost safely stowed away he started on his trek. As he strode off he quickly disappeared into the dense jungle overgrowth.
