Destiny Fiction Producers Writer's Contest

Art by Cyborg4281 The contest is now closed! Thank you to all that participated! The winner of the first DFP Writer's Contest is Morc35! Everyone did a great job, and it was a difficult decision for the judges, but Morc's story was the one we all agreed on. Once again, great work, everyone! To celebrate the release of the beta early access for Destiny 2, and to keep the interest up, Destiny Fiction Producers is hosting a contest for the community. The challenge is to write a Destiny short-story, down in the comment section below that best portrays your version of "a world without Light". The contest begins today, July 18th, and will end on August 18th. All submissions after that will not be included in the judging. All you have to do is post your story in the comments section, but remember, you have five weeks to write, edit, and post your work. The winner will be announced on August 20th, the following Sunday. The winner will receive a code for a $20 Playstation Store card or a $20 Xbox Store card as the prize. Rules: 1) This is a friendly competition, so keep the comments nice and/or constructive. 2) If you want to edit your story after it is posted, go ahead, just leave #Finished to let the judges know it is ready. 3) Please do not post your story multiple times. The judges will read them all. 4) Be original. If two stories seem identical, and it is difficult to confirm which was the original, then the judges will skip over both and move on to the next. Theme: Just as is the theme of Destiny 2, the theme of this contest is "A world without Light". It is up to you to interpret that. Prize: The winner will be announced on August 20th, and will receive a $20 gift card for Playstation or Xbox. Prize Redemption: I will private message the winner of the contest, and I will send one code for the aforementioned gift card based on personal preference. Keep fighting, Guardians

Gone I come from afar, from a conqueror’s land, To a city razed by a conqueror’s hand, Buildings reduced to rubble and glass to sand And all its people were gone. Or so I thought, until I crossed the road And found half-buried beneath an old abode A city guard burdened by the concrete load And thought that its life was gone. Then the warrior raised his helmeted head And spoke to me in the tongue of the dead. And though I knew not a word of what he said, His sad message was not gone. And he said, “I cannot see! I cannot see! Darkness has blinded me! Darkness has claimed me! I thought my strength could protect my city, But everything is gone!” “I stood on walls and watched the sun climb the hills And burn the morning dew to mist that chills, But it’s been replaced with fog of war that kills, And our solar warmth is gone.” “And when the night came, the sky would shine with stars And heroes came from the inky reservoirs, But I nor they could stop your relentless wars, So our space heroes are gone.” “When day nor night could shine through storms, lightning flashed And lit the city through which the thunder crashed, But your storm darkens and now no light is splashed On wet tempests that are gone.” “I looked to my allies to lighten my heart, Mighty friends who were strong, disciplined, and smart, And though we stood together and played our part, All that we fought for is gone.” With his free hand he grabbed a piece and shook it. “This was my soul, my ghost – look at it, look it! It was my very last friend, and you took it! Yes, a part of me is gone!” “You monster! You terrible, cruel thing to fight, You doused the sun, broke the storms, stole the night, And left us to die in a world without light!” It cried that all hope was gone. The weakened warrior’s wailing sickened me, And one blow put it out of my misery. A world without light is nothing new to me And I don’t miss that it’s gone. #Finished
