Strength of the Pack S3 Ch. 22 pt. 1: A Final Defensive

"So, now what?" Colt asked as he and I walked down the streets. I faced him, but I had no answer. I wanted to believe I was on a mission, but I wasn't. I had no chance to fight Vanessa on her terms, despite how much I really wanted to. I would be walking us into a trap. "Wherever the wind takes us, I suppose..." I eventually replied. "And what the h*** does that mean?" Colt exclaimed. "I mean, I'm waiting for Vanessa to make another move. If we can continue to tear apart her forces, whether it's those drones or her Guardian teammates, the easier it will be to defeat her..." I replied. I had turned to face Colt, but the ghost was staring into the sky. Colt tapped my shoulder, then pointed behind me. I turned around and stared at the pillar of SIVA growing out of a tower complex. "Speak of the devil..." Colt muttered. "Well, now you know where we're goin'..." I said before bursting into a sprint down the street. I ran around a building, and awed at the massive spire of SIVA with various shoots spitting out more of Vanessa's drones. She had made a deployable replication system. The infection had already swallowed up an entire building, and was still growing. "Ho...ly... s***..." Colt mumbled. "Now what?..." The ghost asked as he looked to me. I drew out my Ace of Spades and smiled, but Colt couldn't see it. "We're going to make SIVA feel like a buncha a**holes..." Colt simply stared at me. "Don't ever say that again..." I rolled my eyes, then ran into the fray. I turned my left arm into a SIVA grapple launcher, then carried myself onto the roof of a small building. SIVA drones were everywhere, patrolling the area as the replication system consumed metal to make more machines. "I need to get in there..." I whispered to myself. "Colt, you copy?" "Speak now or forever hold your peace... I'm busy!" My partner said over the radio. "I need you to give me a distraction," "What do you think I'm doin', dumba**?" I sighed deeply. "Shut up... And get me that distraction!" "Yes, your b****iness..." Colt replied. Colt walked down a road, hiding his ghost face. None of the drones were on to him since his frame was crafted from SIVA too. He walked up to the nearest drone and whispered into its microphone ears. "Hail SIVA..." The drone turned around and stared at Colt. "Ha! Gotcha sucka!" Colt shouted as he shoved a dagger into its mind core. Soon, every other drone in the vicinity rushed towards where Colt took out the first one. "Huh... That worked..." I said before jumping down. I snuck through the tendrils of nanites stretching from building to building, searching for the control mainframe. "I could use some help!" Colt yelled on the radio. The sound of metal breaking metal muffled his voice. "I can't, Colt... I got to find the heart of this thing..." I replied. As soon as I finished speaking, I was punched to the ground. I looked up to see a drone standing above me. Without a second thought, I raised up my cannon and blew three holes into the machine, destroying its core. What looked like dozens more of the SIVA robots quickly swarmed around me. I got to my feet and got ready for a fight. Pow! Pow! Pow! I managed to shoot three in their SIVA cores, causing them to explode. A drone grabbed me from behind while another went to stab me, but I double jumped and landed behind the one that caught me just as the other robot stabbed it. I punched the other to the ground then shot it a few times. Several more drones came after me, but I began fan firing the Ace. I had ran out of bullets before they were all dead; so, quickly thinking, I holstered the gun then morphed my arms into a couple of massive blades. I jabbed one blade into the face of one drone, then slung it into another. A SIVA robot shot at me, but I raised a small, protective shield and blocked the bullets. I rushed at it then shoved both blades into its "gut" and through its upper back. I swung my arms apart, ripping the machine to shreds. Several bullets pinged off of my left shoulder guard. I turned around to see more drones coming up from behind. I retracted my blades, then pulled out four throwing knives; two in each hand. I threw two into the closest drones, double jumped and flipped over a stream of bullets, then took out the other two; all within a mere couple of seconds. "Alan!!" Colt shouted over the radio. "Just a little longer!" I shouted back. "I think I found the heart of this thing..." "Then what are you waiting for?!" Colt asked. "These things are kickin' my a**!" I looked at the dense braid of SIVA tendrils sprouting out of a massive octahedron core. I pulled out my cannon as I felt Light channel down my arm. By the time the Ace was aimed at the machine, the gun was already a brilliant flame. Pow!... Pow!... Pow!... The core began to overload as wires began to burst. This thing was ready to explode! "Uh, oh..." I said to myself. I tensed up, ready for the shockwave and intense heat. However, all that happened was the core burst into flames, causing the SIVA spire to lose form and collapse. Nanites rained from the sky. When the SIVA structure finally collapsed, Colt and I were the last two people standing; all of the drones were no longer functional, and thus were piles of scrap on the road. Colt was in total shock, because about twenty of the drones had surrounded him when I destroyed the core. "It's about... d***... time..." he said as his processors rebooted. "Did... did you two shut this thing down?" An older woman asked as she looked around. "Yes, ma'am," I replied as I faced her and removed my helmet. She grasped my hand between her frail fingers. "Bless you! Bless you!" The woman looked down at my cold hands, then looked at my eyes with fear. "You're one of them?..." "No, I'm not," I replied confidently. "I'm a Guardian..." "Are you the one the Tower wants?" "Yes, I am. But, what they say is not true! I was framed, and now I'm trying to prove myself innocent," I answered. The woman's eyes kept jumping from my hands to my eyes, and back to my hands. She finally smiled and patted my hand one last time. "Well, you are a Guardian in my book," "Thank you, ma'am. That truly means a lot," I said with a smile. "You hurt my family, Hunter! So, I'll hurt yours!" Shouted a nanite swarm flying in the air. It had to be the Technomancer, but the voice sounded... different. Colt and I readied our weapons, but the swarm flew away in a hurry.
