An interesting observation about D2 Beta Reviews

So I've read all the reviews and opinions on the D2 Beta so far; I've spotted an interesting trend in the opinions from the ones that are saying it's great and are loving it. All of these Bungie defenders have sub 5000 Grimoire, No "From the beginning" node unlocked on Y3 MoT and have 1000 Hours or less gameplay time. You will say Grimoire doesn't mean shit, but it's an uncanny trend that I've spotted. Any D1 Alpha/Beta Vets with 5500+ Grimoire and 3000 Hours logged have anything good to say about this D2 Beta? I'm curious...

  • Sub-5000 grimoire, but chalk that up to not bothering with ghost hunting overmuch (I think I did the initial un back on vanilla) and checking out after Rise of Iron. Knocked out all the Raids and PoE on Hard, and everything up to Sparrow Racing last year. PVE-wise, which is my main jam. Most of what can be commented on shows some refinement. Whats show has better presentation and story work then the first go-around, or even Taken King (or Rise of Iron, which seemed to regress heavily on that front). New skill layouts and weapon mods (which are visible when you look at the gun) are all obfuscated. So its a bit unclear how that all works together. The two (completely) new variants in the SMG and Grenade Launcher both fell kind of lackluster. Auto-rifles also seem to drastically outperform every other option, but that could just be the beta gun selections. There seems to be more potential role filling in the Classes. Which could be a good or bad thing. Solo queuing could become a rough spot if stuff is tailored to the idea of a proper team, and 3 people roll in with mobility-setups and no co-ordination of support skills. (Personally speaking, the Strike boss went down pretty easily when we actually applied a team of 3 to him working in tandem. It was a nightmare with 2 people and one random earlier, even considering that was only a 1st or 2nd try). The beta doesn't really seem to be showing off, or even offering many hints like the original beta did though. You can get a bit of roaming in the strike map (finding pikes, a second set of catapult loops, what appears to be a patrol beacon, and a teleport pad from the strike back to the apparent regular zone), but there's out of place looking walls that don't match their surroundings jamming paths pretty solidly. PvP felt really small and spammy. Which is odd with their beng *less* players in it. Could be a meh choice of map. Wonky playing experience for me personally, trying to go in with unfamiliar guns, and no real good handle on the build or playstyle of my toon or their movement abilities.
