An interesting observation about D2 Beta Reviews

So I've read all the reviews and opinions on the D2 Beta so far; I've spotted an interesting trend in the opinions from the ones that are saying it's great and are loving it. All of these Bungie defenders have sub 5000 Grimoire, No "From the beginning" node unlocked on Y3 MoT and have 1000 Hours or less gameplay time. You will say Grimoire doesn't mean shit, but it's an uncanny trend that I've spotted. Any D1 Alpha/Beta Vets with 5500+ Grimoire and 3000 Hours logged have anything good to say about this D2 Beta? I'm curious...

  • Just done the first mission and strike with Titan sentinal. I really don't like the new weapon setup. Tried all the default weapons I received aswell as the exotic auto rifle, but found I soon went to what I think will be default selection of scout / handcannon. I liked the inclusion Of The third ability (shield) but the super seems to take a long time to generate and didn't seem to generate lots of orbs. Also the flying shield attack can only be activated once and seems quite weak (wouldn't 1 hit kill Harpys on strike mission.) so far the game doesn't feel like a new game but an expansion which I guess is OK but the pve better be bloody good in the final release. I liked the layout Of The strike and the inclusion of more environmental obstacles is nice, although the way the weapon set up is the strike boss felt even more spongier than d1 bosses. I hope we can unlock weapons in the full game that feel op to use in pve but I feel the way d2 seems to be directed more to pvp that we won't get that ghorn / original vex feeling back.

    • Stopped counting my hours a long time ago, stopped collecting grimoire a long time ago but still 5400+. Never pre ordered, might not buy. I'll wait and be the judge when the open beta hits. Needless to say, I am extremely critical of destiny at this point, and have disliked the direction the game has gone since day one. Not just what is in the game, but also the way the developers will sometimes make changes on a whim based off their statistics and what they think the game "should" be. D1 year three is far different from D1 year one. There have been constant tweaks and tinkerings completed by the devs to increase diversity, yet they are shutting down destiny in the worst state with only icebreaker sidearms and palindrome being used. Just so disappointing. I don't understand how they can just leave it like this, and at the same time so many people are star struck by their reveals. Anyway, yes still around, but this might be the last of destiny I play.

      • 5445 Grimoire and 4506 hours logged here. I'm on xbox, so I will not get to experience the beta untill tommorow. After reading many posts from other veteran players, I am not liking what I am reading. I will try to go in with an open mind.

      • This is the first beta I've ever played for an upcoming game and I usually stay away from them because first impressions are important to me. Sadly, I give the "Beta" a mediocre okay rating. Hopefully when the finished product arrives, that giddy excitement will be rekindled, that feeling of "Holy Sh#t this F-ing game is Awesome!!!!" will be there.........

      • Over 3000 hours played, and I've been here since the D1 beta. Don't care much for grimoire. From what I've seen, looks good. Won't be able to play till tomorrow, but I'll update

      • PvE; from the Inverted Spire and Homecoming, I genuinely enjoyed my time. The gameplay felt so much more interactive and visuals were amazing. Inverted Spire? So gorgeous, oh my goodness. And with those little launch circles? It felt more open like, "Hey, go check this out!" -However, I did not enjoy how long the Inverted Spire felt, also Homecoming. I can understand Homecoming as it's the first mission, and this may just be me being too accustomed to speed running activities. PvP; the overall feel is great, mostly everything feels balanced. -I feel like I have more cons for this than pros, which is interesting. Gameplay feels slow and 4v4 isn't my favorite. I quite enjoyed 6v6 because of the "casualness" sorry. It was fun to me having everything be a little hectic. Competitive is great as 4v4, really does force people to actual be competitive which is what the playlist is meant for. I don't enjoy the incredibly slow universal cooldowns for our abilities. Everyone ends up having their supers at the same time if the match fully plays out, and you only get one super. PvP? Alright, I can take that, promotes gun play. PvE? Not as enjoyable, prolongs activities, and the supers don't feel super even after the long wait. Overall, I enjoy it, feels good, but some cons. Also, am I the only one who doesn't like the Roster being tied with the Directory and not with our character menu? Hm.
#TunaTuesday
• Day one player, 5000 plus grimoire, top 1% time played. Honest review of the beta so far: I think the graphics are an upgrade. The game looks very good. Very pleased. The story mission and strike are very well done. I think for now it looks as if the pve side will be excellent. As for the pvp, I'm not sold so far. Disclaimer, when I first started playing destiny, I was not a pvp player. My KD was so bad, and I honestly could have cared less. However, towards the end of year 1, I actually started caring and worked my KD up to 1 on my hunter and became a solid player. In D1, I hated how it became an abilityfest and I always hated the metas that forced you to use 1 weapon. Here's what I like about the D2 pvp: The competitive mode is pretty fun for the most part. Had some really good games and a few bad but it moves along and again, I had fun. What I don't like about the D2 pvp: To play and get a positive KD I had to focus more on running away and team shooting. I'm not a fan of that play style. It's slow, the time to kill is really slow. I'm not a cod fan so I like how destiny is different, but this is too drastic. What I hate: So far, it has been very inconsistent. I've been 1 shot with full health numerous times and others I play with have said the same. Sometimes shots are not registering and other times they are fine. I realize it's a beta but I hope Bungie is able to correct it.

        • The BETA is what it is. Some bugs and what not. But overall i like where the game is heading. I will reserve judgment until the full game is released. If its crap. Oh well.

        • day 1 player from year 1. your grimoir comment just makes me laugh. that shit means nothing. i have a lowish number cuz i didnt care for it. guarentee you im better than most out there especially in raids. but, to answer the question. i enjoy the beta. there are things i dont like and i know probably wont change, like the gun setup, but i know ill learn to enjoy it and enjoy the game as a whole. honestly though, i am getting sick of stupid people like the op that put themselves on a high horse and think they run this game when alot of them, suck... suck bad at doing simple things in raids and other things

          • Not a beta player. Grimoire is 5595. Definitely over 3000 hours played. Love the pve side of the beta! Wish abilities recharged a bit faster and that primaries had a lower ttk. So far its pretty good. Its not perfect but its decent.

          • Check my numbers. Weapons are shit, powers are weak, strike has nothing new except the area and graphics, but still the boss is a good old bullet sponge. Crucible isn't actually too bad and that's an issue as Bungie cares more about that than PVE, meaning story players like me don't seem to have much of a future. But seems most are liking it or trying to convince themselves it's actually good and don't dare to point out any issues, so I can tell that probably I won't like the make when it comes out at this rate.

Waiting on my clan mates to play the strike and dip into the crucible. But that story mission... HOLY SHIT, IT'S GOOD!!! It's bombastic, intense, epic. You can clearly see how they've built it with the new players in mind with progressively more challenging encounters. By the time you reach the courtyard, you get to repeatedly kick all sorts of ass with your super (I stuck around long enough to unleash my Arcstrider wrath 3 times) and learn the ropes of your subclass. Then, you're off on your own for the final act. It's Destiny cranked up to 11!!! The objectives make much more sense than the pseudo sci-fi mumbo jumbo of vanilla (you know, "let's scan that matrix that allows me to release the beam that triggers the sequence to unlock the thingy that does... flashy lights?" WTF?!?). It's go there, meet him, help him out, find her, meet up with her, get a map, find the place, blow that shit up. And graphically, it might not be 60fps, but it looks damn sweet on the 50" 4k Vizio hooked to my PS4 Pro. Like, much, MUCH, MUCH more crisp than vanilla. So... yeah. My two cents so far.

            • What's the difference between a few hundred and 3000 hours played....? I'm not an idiot and can form an opinion about a game if I've played for 35 days worth seems you'd have to be really dumb otherwise?

            • So I played the alpha on my brother's profile and played the beta on mine, then followed with D1 and so on, playing quite a lot. Anyway, I have accepted the phrase "If it's not broken, don't fix it." Destiny 2 Beta keeps my idea of Destiny 2 being a huge update going, but honestly, I'm okay with no huge overhaul. I'm okay with almost every aspect of the game staying the same, just with a whole new storyline and game mechanics. Which leads me to the point that I loved Destiny 1 as a whole and the huuuuuge arc it had, both the developers learning how to treat different aspects of the game, and as the game community grew and learned. I have accepted that D2 will be more of the same, only with slight yet hugely impactful changes. This is truly a "2.0" update.

            • Day 1 player. 5300 grim, 72days played. Story and strike are great. I like the indy style rendering. Longer ttk but not in a bullet sponge kind of way. Sensitivity and sound are crisp and clear. It definitely does not feel reskinned, especially the guns. The gun slot system is cool, especially variable burn options. Pvp moves faster with slower ttk. Most weapons don't feel weak. Slower super is good. New subclass (hunter) is awesome. Be prepared for forum salt about evade options. Melee is useless against full armour, but strong if armour is damaged. The world so far is beautiful.

            • With over 70 days played in Crucible, I think we've started on a solid foundation. Clearly, this is a beta, and I am sure some thing will change. I just keep on being logged out from Crucible matches with error code weasel. It's driving me nuts.
