An interesting observation about D2 Beta Reviews

So I've read all the reviews and opinions on the D2 Beta so far; I've spotted an interesting trend in the opinions from the ones that are saying it's great and are loving it. All of these Bungie defenders have sub 5000 Grimoire, No "From the beginning" node unlocked on Y3 MoT and have 1000 Hours or less gameplay time. You will say Grimoire doesn't mean shit, but it's an uncanny trend that I've spotted. Any D1 Alpha/Beta Vets with 5500+ Grimoire and 3000 Hours logged have anything good to say about this D2 Beta? I'm curious...

  • Day 1 Alpha Tester Firstly for bungie as this is a beta. Bug issue: Mission+Strike teleporting enemies frequency 1 per play through. Playtime: 4 hours 30 Minutes Now onto the review: Mission - Mission for what it was as an introduction was great, first runthrough, i took my time and it took its time, was nice to see a mission where at the correct level (I assume) it still took a good 20-30 minutes just to do one mission with the cutscenes. (Obviously second plus playthroughs were quicker but its good to see story missions of this length and something to do throughout not just running through empty hallways constantly. Strike - The strike was as advertised, its a typical destiny strike, ive seen commentors saying it has a lack of mechanics and the boss was a bullet sponge but in reality other than the health bar determining boss stages, this was no difference to a rise of iron or taken king strike boss. It was nice to see the final area change as well as the mechanics though not just boss mechanics in the same room. Other than that no real complants, had its defend point section, run through shoot sections and scenery sections, as i said everything we've already got from strike playlists in Destiny 1. Characters - Characters were as everyone is commenting a little on the slow side which is different to the fast paced were used to (even with mobility at its highest), however i do like that it seems to be intentional as to make you fight through every section rather than run through as you will be gunned down trying at most parts. The new supers all have their enjoyment, Warlock and Hunter more than Titan but like Destiny 1 it'll all go down to preference rather than any overall gains from using the supers. Supers - Do recharge on the slow side unless you are killing alot or have a fireteam co-ordinating supers for orbs. Orb drops are less by the look of things too regardless of yellow bars or multi red bar kills your not going to be generating 6/7 orbs more like 3 max. The timing does feel less so it seems supers have moved to more of a clearing add and finishing boss mode rather than multi yellow bar destroyers in 1 hit. For PvE this can be a little frustrating due to weapon changes ill go into but PvP its nice to not have sections of time where every death is by super for 2 minutes. They seem to be building a supers have to be earned rather than gained over time feel. Weapons - 2 primary weapon slots and heavy being anything from snipers to grenade launchers. I was a fan of this change going into the beta for PvP reasons as i do prefer a gunfight to be snipered through a 1 inch gap in a wall on the other side of the map. For PvP i still hold the same feeling, its refreshing to get stuck into gunfights where you can re-gain your health round corners, and it takes effort and a consistant good shot to bring your enemy down more than the spray and pray or 1 hit shotgun/sniper/grenade that plague Destiny 1. PvP feels more like a best players will rise situation more than slide shotty or sniper for the win. Hopefully with the introduction of competitive mode it will also come with LEADERBOARDS BUNGIE! PvE is more on the frustrating side, bosses and yellow bars take alot longer to grind down and after it does feel like you were in a fight with heavy weapons even from 3 people at the same time rarely take chunks from the boss in the way we'd like to see. However the weapons in total are, dissapointing, taking out the second slot perks makes them feel irrelevant regardless what your using and exotics suffering from the same effect. However if the raids are changing to benefit the new weapon system and dont feel as grindy then im onboard if we only have to worry about strike bosses rather than end game content. The system itself however seems more refined, instead of using your favoured type of gun and it works well regardless of situation i tended to be switching constantly between short and long range weapons as and when needed throughout the playthroughs which for me was a nice purposeful touch to the weapons. Ammo Drops - The main issue ive seen over the hours on here. I tried a few different methods when playing, i played my normal style, saving heavy for bosses, everything else gets whatever. I played wasting 1 weapon then moving onto the next and i played switching every 2/3 enemies. For the mission i was fine with all drop rates. For the strike like many i struggled, whether this is the coding for strike drops being messed up or intentional to make the strike more of a struggle (which does make getting the right ammo and using the right ammo at the right time more interesting) i guess we'll find out on release. PvP - PvP as i stated above with the weapon changes was refreshing, yes you will still get rolled over by clans and fireteams however with the introduction of competitive, hopefully this will be lessened in regular games by the more casual players. As i stated it feels very much like the best players will rise to the top and gunfights with skill at using your perks and weapons will become key rather than 1 shot tactics (shotgun/grenades/snipers). The 1 person gets heavy randomly through the match as well was a nice change that should cut down on the total team wipes when 3 people have heavy that 1 shot again. The 4v4 gamemode i feel does benefit the game, it feels more purposeful than 6v6 and like you can get onto streaks easier because its less chaotic but also feels more like you can regain a match balance when 4v2 or 4v1 down due to the map size and player spread within a map. I didnt have any lag or server issues on my playtime (Roughly 2 hours). I find that the people getting server issues or complaining about people having lag are generally the people either; trying to play the game on 5MB or under connection or Wifi connection/are playing against with 5MB connection or Wifi and its easier to blame destiny servers than realise that you cant play online games with bad connection or wifi unless it is incredible good connection and that not everyone realises/can get better internet so they create lag by using slow/bad connections. Overall - Its a beta is all i can say, would i have liked 3 story missions and an extra 2 PvP maps, sure, but obviously bungie are keeping things close to their chests as they know due to Destiny 1 skeptics they have to keep everything wrapped up to keep the hype as high as they can for launch. Im still excited for Destiny 2 especially with the PvP changes, however i am still going to be skeptical at launch of there being a lack of PvE content (longer story missions go a way bungie but 20 of them like Destiny 1 wont cut it) and how the new gun changes will effect the PvE endgame content like raids. However as i said its a Beta and a very limited one at that which doesnt show us much apart from the new gun system and the way it changes PvP and PvE.

    • Day one beta player, why can nobody enjoy a game nowadays. You don't need to have 4 months of gameplay logged to have a good opinion.

    • Day 1 beta player here. I'm just shy of 5k grimoire score due to having zero interest in hunting ghosts. I have the node in the AoT book and over 1k hours played. Completed every raid on hard mode the day it released with the exception of KF which I eventually started doing. I played in a majority of IB events and have been to the lighthouse in y1 and y3. The point you're trying to make is idiotic. 3k hours and 5500 grimoire is an asinine standard for what makes someone a veteran player, which is clearly what you're implying. 1k hours in any one game is a ton, but 3k? Many of us have a life outside of gaming and actually do enjoy playing other things when we do game. This is the dumbest thread I've read all day. -blam!- off with your condescending, elitist garbage. Oh, by the way, this veteran player happened to thoroughly enjoy both the pve and pve aspects of this beta.

    • It felt a little slower than D1. I'm also not used to kill a Strikeboss with allmost primary weapon only. 4v4 is intense playing it with friends and chat aktiv. Looking forward to see more weapons drop from the crucible.

    • I just want primary/secondary/heavy back. I'm not sold AT ALL on the weapon change. They NEVER explained why they did it. All Ive watched boiled down to basicly "we were testing the game and came up with the weapon changes. Everyone hated them at first but I liked them so eveyone kept playing and got used to it." We can have two sidearms equipped. Because thats what everyone was begging for in D1.

      • Story was alright, camera angleseems like it was trying to give me that feeling close to enemies but a little too close and narroq a bit difficult to observing the surrounding setups. Could have add a few scans or blocked obstacle that show citizens of the tower had to gather help to open a path for us or holding a gate to stop enemies from entering until we arived just in time or rushing in to save a guardian but he was too far gone and on his last breath he handed us a gun that we use throughout the prelude. Strike was good just like any other good strikes Destiny had, nothing new here. Except the landscapes looks much more vivid and the area gave that wide open-like. Strike boss had some gimick when entering the next dmg phase. But now the gun load out (primes/power) does effect the game play and limit the options. Scout rifle might become the popular choice for long-range in place of sniper rifle (D1), might not get to see much play from shotgun or fusion in PvE becuse since it is in the power slot which most likely to be use for launchers and machineguns. 4v4 Quick play wasn't as bad as many had expected, had some fun. Abilities recharge time could use a few sec boost. Primaries gun fight time are noticeable increased on to the slow side, one on one engagement felt like it was almost half a minutes plus a full magazine to take somebody down if they don't escape at the last moment, could use some tunning here. I solo que group up with all solo (1,1,1,1,) or some case 1,1,2 and a few time 1,3 but the opposing team most likely will be 4 or 3,1. At lauch could tweak the match making to pair up full team against full team, 4v4 or 3,1v3,1 or 2,2v2,2 Thanks.

        • Beta is pretty solid. I do wish we got two maps for each game mode though but I'll live. Kinda wish we also got the first 2 story missions as well. Oh, and the Strike should have let is go into the Lost Sector cause it's really bugging me that it's right there and I caNT GET -blam!-ING IN! Other than that the game play feels SO much better, the graphics are beautiful(a lot of people thought everything looked cartoony from the videos online but experiencing them myself they're fantastic), and the PvP feels great until you get team killed LMAO. I do have to admit I'm not a fan of the enemy Shields, they're really retarded looking.

        • D1 Beta Player here, I love all the changes. Ability spam is less of a thing, forcing you to think about when and where you want to use your class abilities, grenades, and supers. Also, the guns feel really good, but I think Auto Rifles and Hand Cannons need some love. Gunslinger, Arcstrider, and Sentinel are all great. I haven't gotten to try Striker yet. Dawnblade and Voidwalker are the worst classes, honestly. Dawnblade is slow and awkward to use, and the new Nova is... Strange. I gotta use it more though. Good beta, it just needs some fine tuning before launch. I'm excited.

        • Well it's a beta so I can't expect it to be amazing but what I tried seem interesting compared to D1. I mean I'm not so sure about 4 vs 4 just yet, 6 vs 6 is more interesting in my opinion but I guess sometimes 4 vs 4 could be interesting in the long term. As far as gun experience in PvP I tried around different types of guns compared to my build in D1 and I must say things feels more balanced but no god-rolls gun popular yet so it might change the feel of PvP. As for the story, if we can get that scenario well deployed it will be an amazing step-up from D1. Sadly we don't have access to the rest of PvE activities but it seems we will have more variety. So far I feel confident D2 can be good. And the beta is short but whatever it's a beta ;)

        • Beta seems fun. Very very short on content compared on D1 beta though. I feel we should of of at least gotten 2 strikes, 2 pvp modes we have now and an open world activity like bounties or events we could of done. Other than that, guns feel good, love the new HD touches they done. Still lag online, ppl skipping. And I swear I have a feeling we got DDos today, went 4 wins and other team 1, then all of a sudden one by 1 we got kicked off till only one of us stayed then the other team decided to attack. Umm what else, gun loadout feel weird and not liking the whole rocket or sniper, rocket or fusion, rocket or grenade launcher. Most legendary weapons perks are pretty bad and non existence. Most abilities/supers have wayyyyyy long cool down, but hope most of these get fixed, other than that it's pretty fun beta

        • Sub-5000 grimoire, but chalk that up to not bothering with ghost hunting overmuch (I think I did the initial un back on vanilla) and checking out after Rise of Iron. Knocked out all the Raids and PoE on Hard, and everything up to Sparrow Racing last year. PVE-wise, which is my main jam. Most of what can be commented on shows some refinement. Whats show has better presentation and story work then the first go-around, or even Taken King (or Rise of Iron, which seemed to regress heavily on that front). New skill layouts and weapon mods (which are visible when you look at the gun) are all obfuscated. So its a bit unclear how that all works together. The two (completely) new variants in the SMG and Grenade Launcher both fell kind of lackluster. Auto-rifles also seem to drastically outperform every other option, but that could just be the beta gun selections. There seems to be more potential role filling in the Classes. Which could be a good or bad thing. Solo queuing could become a rough spot if stuff is tailored to the idea of a proper team, and 3 people roll in with mobility-setups and no co-ordination of support skills. (Personally speaking, the Strike boss went down pretty easily when we actually applied a team of 3 to him working in tandem. It was a nightmare with 2 people and one random earlier, even considering that was only a 1st or 2nd try). The beta doesn't really seem to be showing off, or even offering many hints like the original beta did though. You can get a bit of roaming in the strike map (finding pikes, a second set of catapult loops, what appears to be a patrol beacon, and a teleport pad from the strike back to the apparent regular zone), but there's out of place looking walls that don't match their surroundings jamming paths pretty solidly. PvP felt really small and spammy. Which is odd with their beng *less* players in it. Could be a meh choice of map. Wonky playing experience for me personally, trying to go in with unfamiliar guns, and no real good handle on the build or playstyle of my toon or their movement abilities.

        • +5k grim score means people have played all or most content, even after last couple updates. Raid challenges, ghost hunting, pvp and pve. I have done vog, crota, and kingsfall on hard. But because it was when content was originally released I get less grim score. Don't care about pvp map or pve ghosts. Many players quit playing before 5k+ grim was an option. Most pve players lost interest. Most pvp players haven't done the grim grind for last few dlc or updates. Look at hours played. This is my second destiny beta. I can't imagine anyone has enough d2 beta experience to judge the game fairly. Positive or negative. I'm just happy this beta is more limited than d1. The first part of d1 was spoiled by my great d1 beta.

        • I'm from beta with a little under 5000 grimoire (still need to collect ghosts) with i think above 3000 hours, and honestly I hate what they did with the weapon economy (snipers, fusions, shotguns as power ammo), I don't really like the 4v4 aspect but i'll get used to it, I hate how supers charge slowly and go away insanely fast. I'm sure we;ll all fall in love with Destiny 2 for the first month and then grow to hate the changes they've made.

        • Yep. Not a alpha/beta player, below 5000 grimoire, but day one player. I love the new PvP. Gun skill matters, sticking as a team matters. The Story and PvE still is yet to be seen. For what we saw, id give it an 8:10

        • 4000+ hours and 5570 grim on xbox. I think for the most part that the pvp and game in general is great. Only problems i find is that the time to kill is a little to long. 1v2s are hard to win. Its like they wanna make team shoting more inportant. Which would work in the competitive mode with proper team work etc but solo search in the quickplay...it just doesnt feel right. Im glad the abilities are on a longer cool down. Only other issue i have is why the hunter doesnt have a team based ability... titan gets the wall and warlock gets the rift. Both great for team play but then theres the hunter with his dodge lol. But yeah enjoying it so far just hope the tweak the time to kill
