An interesting observation about D2 Beta Reviews

So I've read all the reviews and opinions on the D2 Beta so far; I've spotted an interesting trend in the opinions from the ones that are saying it's great and are loving it. All of these Bungie defenders have sub 5000 Grimoire, No "From the beginning" node unlocked on Y3 MoT and have 1000 Hours or less gameplay time. You will say Grimoire doesn't mean shit, but it's an uncanny trend that I've spotted. Any D1 Alpha/Beta Vets with 5500+ Grimoire and 3000 Hours logged have anything good to say about this D2 Beta? I'm curious...

  • No. Deeply unimpressed day 1 player here.

  • I love the new PVP, and I have no complaints about PVE

  • As frustrating as d1s crucible could be at times, it was still really, really fun. It's what has kept me playing all these years. It seems like most if not all of that fun, arcade style shoot em' up badass space cowboy - factors are just gone. There's parts of the game that feel like destiny..... But almost as a hollow shell of itself. You can't go off on your own and slay anymore because you'll get team-shot and when you try to stick with your random team to do the same thing it almost never works the way you think it would. Crucible shouldn't feel so bullet spongy

  • I don't have 5500 grimoire because I took a very long break since Destiny became stale for me, but I have played since D1 beta. I can tell you that I find the new subclasses fun and think 2/3 of the new exotics are fun. I also feel like the story mission we are able to play sets the bar high for what to expect from npc's. I haven't played crucible yet (spent most of my time jumping around between characters trying out the subclasses and abilities) and feel indifferent about the strike at the moment. I won't sugar coat it and say it was amazing... it's a beta... it's got bugs,l and a few things that need to be polished (I've run into the mysterious "misadventure" multiple times). I think some people just fall victim to the "if it's new it's amazing" syndrome. However, I will say that it's a good sign and I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for the full release.

  • Not 5500 Grim but the beta is great. The hunter runs smoothly and I have yet to test the other 2 classes. I also like how they removed sprint cooldown. Not sure if its on hunters only or all 3 classes. My only complaint is I wish they would have let us press and hold for knife throw instead of having a certain distance then throwing it. I was a Alpha and Beta tester for Destiny 1 so I look at the gameplay and not judge based on the game. Can't judge a game based on a beta but we can judge control mechanics and how its set up. Also SMG weapons are great to melt faces.

  • The gameplay is pretty fun, it feels so much... Tighter? Fluid? I can't really explain what's better about it, you'll have to understand when you play it. Weapons seem mostly quite fun, with that veist scout being an exception as it does seem a bit weak. That's probably just the archetypal though. Supers and abilities are fun, but they are on the slow side. I understand to make abilities less of a deciding factor within a PVP match but suddenly having your super within the final 10 seconds of the game isn't amazing. On top of that it's not great in PVE where I'd argue abilities should be thrown around more than they are, only having your super twice a strike isn't fun and your other abilities take at least a minute to come back. It is fun though, I'm enjoying it. It's more Destiny, which is good because if it wasn't Destiny I'd probably not play it.

  • None of the weapons feel fun in PVE. The exotics seem hardly exotic. Using two primaries will get boring, especially when playing long stretches of PVE. Who wants to kill stuff with a hand cannon then switch to a scout or pulse etc. the old secondaries made it less stale. Also, who in the world will ever choose to use a fusion rifle or shotgun as a heavy over a rocket launcher? It makes no sense. Maybe it balances PVP but it is going to make PVE a grind just to down yellow health enemies (or orange as they look now). Also why is only 4v4 PVP a good idea? We made ourselves groups of 6 and now 2 of those people will be left out. Plus, to cope with fewer players all the maps are smaller and less exciting. They should make 6v6 or more available in the future to keep PVP from getting stale.

    • Hmm could be a link due to the (generally) more time spent in game by those players in order to get high grimoire, a longer time devoted could make it harder to accept changes to what they are used to perhaps? Me IdgaS if the gameflow and gunplay is enjoyable I will like it Im not playing to measure digital dicks (grimoire, k/d, etc)

    • In control PvP, the only issue I saw was that everyone's supers charged at pretty much the exact same time, with less than 3 minutes left. After a few matches, it started feeling that it was 2 separate games. On that went on on the beginning with weapons, and another for that final 3 minutes of mayhem. The final 3 minutes made it feel like the previous play time didnt matter, because whichever team was losing could then it around last second with a big super rush.

    • I started playing at the start TTK (didn't actually get the expansion until July I think) and my grimoire sits at 4700. Don't like the beta from what I've seen so far.

      • I think it's aesthetically pleasing. I enjoy our new class abilities. Uhh... yeah, I have more complaints than positive things to say. Crucible shouldn't be limited to only 4v4. Only two skill trees and little customization of classes is really dissapointing. Why would I choose a shotgun over a rocket launcher? I wouldn't! Ability recharge rate is trash. Guns feel like pea shooters. All enemies seem like bullet sponges now. The list goes on. I think the only reason I'm enjoying it as much as I am is because I'm playing with friends.

Shouldn't a player like yourself, who has logged so many hours on the game be the one defending bungie? If you hate their work so much.. you have wasted a good chunk of your life.

        • Alpha / beta 6k+hrs max grimoire player. Seems fine for a beta, pad turning is fixed, warlock plays well but the hunter is pretty useless in pve ( just like vanilla d1. Pvp is a tad slower but it's hard to say as we have shit builds and Loadouts so.... imo it's promising but I'm hoping they have locked lots of rng behind the full release.

        • I honestly don't care how many hours someone has or how much grimoire someone has. We're all playing this game, not just you. We all should enjoy the game as much as we want. That said, if you don't like how D2 is as far as the things that are set in stone go, bye. Bungie will take their game where they want it to go. Some will love it, some will hate it.
But stuff you don't like than can be change, like weapon balancing, should be posted about in the Feedback forum.
• I have a few things to say. I love the look and feel. Not a big fan of the slow ability recharge, same perks on weapons, weak melee and grenade damage and the extremely rare power weapon ammo drop rate in strikes. The skill trees also seem a bit empty. I just don't see myself ever using a shotgun or fusion over a rocket to be honest.

Alright, how about me then? Story mission felt awesome, new weapon system is interesting but PvE damage could use a slight buff, 10% max. Haven't played PvP yet, but from what I've heard Control is quite fun and better balanced but supers may charge very late into the game. Super charge time should be decreased so as to guarantee a player can use one per match, two if they play well. If I remember to after work, I'll edit this with my personal first impressions of PvP.

        • Beta is showing it's pro and con like anything else. Again this is the beta and gives bungie time to tweak things. Full game may give more ammo, faster super rate etc.
