Dakota Jones and the Scholars pt. 7

Daniels, the hunter, tumbled through the cave, bouncing off walls, and adding scratches to his worn out armor. As he rolled non-stop, the warlocks followed behind, while still on foot. The cave had several twists and turns as they descended deeper into the Vault. Daniels finally stopped rolling, and landed on his face. Master Jal helped the hunter up before watching him stumble around; Daniels was undeniably dizzy. The hunter placed a hand against a rock to keep himself balanced. The team of warlocks stepped forward and gazed at another ravine cutting through their path. "Am I seein' things... or are those rocks... vanishin'?" Daniels asked before tripping over his own feet. Clara and Isaiah looked at the hunter as he bounced back up. "There's a pattern," Master Jal stated while stroking his goatee. The arch-warlock jumped to the first rock, then to the next. He ran across, then jumped to the third rock before the one he was previously standing on had vanished. Master Jal jumped onto a ledge and took a breather. The warlock continued jumping from rock to rock as they formed. Finally, he reached the other side. "D***," Clara stated after watching the show. "Do what I just did! It's easy!" Master Jal shouted through the fog. Slowly, but surely, Brian, Clara and Dakota made their way across the cavern. They did exactly as Master Jal did, and jumped from rock to rock. Daniels stretched his legs and cracked his neck. "See ya on the other side," the hunter said as he patted Isaiah's shoulder. Daniels ran to the edge, but stopped before jumping. "Hey, um... Are you all right?..." Daniels asked as he spun around. Isaiah stumbled away from the edge, holding his hand out in case he tripped. "Oh, yeah... I'm fine..." The warlock replied. Daniels rolled his eyes under his helmet, then walked over. "Dude, didn't you just leap off a massive cliff yesterday?" "Yeah, but I could see where we were going. If we miss one step... Look! We're plummeting to our death!" Isaiah shouted as he pointed to the abyss below. Daniels stood there silent for a moment. "Okay, watch. It's all about timing. See how when the second one appears, the first one disappears? Then, once the third appears, the second disappears? You'll have about five seconds to get across... You got this?" The hunter stated as he pointed to the structures. Isaiah released all of the air he held in his chest. After shaking the thoughts out of his head, he rushed forward and jumped to the first pillar. He tumbled and rolled, but got up and jumped to the next pillar. The warlock ran and jumped to the third rock, but the one he was currently standing on vanished from existence. "Isaiah!" Clara screamed as she watched her brother plummet to an unimaginable world below. Dakota wrapped his arm around Clara and held her back. "S***!" Daniels yelled as he dove into the abyss. The hunter grabbed Isaiah's shoulder, then double--even triple--jumped to the opposite cliffside. Clara hugged her warlock brother after he reached safety. Daniels was dropped to hands and knees, and completely out of breath. Dakota helped the hunter to his feet and held him steady. Daniels walked over to Isaiah while gripping his arm. "You... You are a h*** of a lot heavier than you look..." Isaiah laughed. "Thanks, man. Nice catch," the warlock said after patting Daniels' shoulder. "Everyone..." Brian exclaimed. "I think we've reached the end..." he declared. The Scholars walked around a turn to see a massive door standing at the end of the hall. "Welcome, everyone, to the Vault of Glass..." Master Jal stated as he held up his hands, as if beholding the door. Daniels tapped Dakota's shoulder. "Look," he stated as he pointed to the dense air. The Sunsinger looked up to see faint lights flickering in and out of existence. "What are those?..." Daniels asked. The warlock swallowed. "Ghost cores..." Dakota replied in a whisper. The hunter turned to his partner. He couldn't be serious; no, he was joking. One of the lights appeared in front of Daniels' face and stared into his soul. The hunter cocked his head, and reached out to the apparition, but it vanished a second later. Soon, everything began to shake, and small rocks began to fall to the ground. The Guardians dodged the falling stones, then turned to movement ahead. The triangular door began to separate and move in a downward, diagonal path. What hid behind, was the sight of a lifetime.
