A beach near dojoville
It was a quieter day at the beach, the skies were clear, and the waves crashed on the shore peacefully. On the same waves, a little ways out, a small metal object popped up on the surface. It floated along for about 15 minutes before plopping itself into the sand. On the side, it had painted on it "from: The Abyss"
The few people on the beach gazed at it for a moment before it was snatched up by Cornelia. She lugged the small submarine off the beach near the tree line before opening it. Inside the locked door there was nothing but a small note. She read it before revealing a slightly disappointed face. She took the note and walked away, studying it while she left the sub by the trees, just out of sight from people.
A few moments later...
Cornelia reappeared in Dojoville still holding the note, she walked into the same cafe she usually went to where it was mostly empty like always. Inside, quiet jazz music played on a radio and the owner sat at the counter, cleaning it off. Cornelia took a seat and inspected the note more.
I also didn't make this before 100k, I feel ashamed.
Into the café walked, or rather, slithered, a strange creature. From the waist up, he was a normal man, looking around 25 years old. He wore a thick tan jacket over a blue t-shirt, and he had a neat little leather knapsack. His hair was brown, so were his eyes. Pretty normal guy. Except for a few things. First, from the waist down he was some sort of shiny, slightly slimy snake tail thing, which was easily triple his waist to head height. It was deep purple in color, with lighter spots scattered across it. Secondly, his fingertips were the same purple, the color bleeding down into his hands, like he had dipped them in dye And finally, he had a jagged sword holstered at his side, the blade gently glowing purple in the same way his fingers did. He slithered right up to the bar and coiled up around a stool and sat down. "Hey, do you serve distilled hopes here?"
-
The owner looked at the man/creature oddly, then replied. "Yea, you want that with or without cream?"
-
"With, please. It's too hard to find a place that carries distilled hope these days." The man-thing looked over at Cornelia "You can relate, right? Nothing like a big mug of Hope after a long day."
-
"I suppose there isn't..." She replied. Meanwhile, the man went back into the kitchen. Only a few moments later, he returned with an ordinary cup of coffee with some cream in it. "There, that's the closest thing we got to a cup of hope..."
-
"Close enough." He downed the coffee in a way that probably shouldn't be physically possible. "Anyhows," He turned to Cornelia. "Where's the closest food? I'm starving."
-
"There's probably something he could make..." She pointed at the owner again. "Yea, I can make eggs, pancakes, sandwiches, other random stuff..."
-
"One of everything. Say, do you accept dangerous, and powerful, artifacts as payment?" The man-serpent thing appeared to be serious about that
-
The man gave him another odd look. "Uh, no, it'll just have to be on the house I guess." He went back into the kitchen again to make the food. Cornelia chimed in. "Strange method of payment you have there."

Vio walked up and slugged the owner in the face, before forcing them down and proceeding to hammer their head until they fell unconscious. She then wiped her hands off on the owner's clothes, before making a cup of coffee for herself and drinking. She looked over at Cornelia, peaked around the counter to try and see what she was reading. "Whatcha got there?" She asked curiously.
-
Cornelia stared at her with a disturbed face for a moment. "Just a note from some colleagues...." On the note, it read out: AAVA XDVF FAFF XAVD AAF GGA FFDD ADVX
-
"Ew, code. Ugh. I was in this one program when I was still in school–y'know, the kind for 'gifted kids'? Bullshit, in my opinion, I was too stupid for the program, but anyways. They had one project where we had to decode a bunch of messages to find a fictional murderer. I hated every last moment of it... partly cause it was boring, partly because I was the second to last one to finish. Then again, I didn't have a partner, like the rest of them, but still...." She shuddered slightly, before looking back at the note. "You got any idea what it means?"
-
"Not a clue, but I do know it is an ADFGVX cipher. Very hard to solve without a key..." It was obvious she didn't have one yet.
-
"ADFGVX cipher? Have fun decrypting that...." Vio took a closer look at the note, racking her brain, before sighing. "No keywords, nothing to help make a key... man, I don't have the brain power for this."
-
"I'm sure there's a key somewhere, just have to look hard enough..." She held the note up to the light, but to no avail. "It is starting to get frustrating though..."
-
"Invisible ink, maybe? Try shining a UV light on it, or doing that trick with lemon juice or whatever." Vio shrugged, taking a sip from her coffee.
-
"Maybe... Cyber, run UV for me..." It looked like she was talking to herself before a small light flashed out of a robotic piece. It floated by her head, illuminating the paper in a purple glow. A silhouette of the submarine she pulled it out of showed through the paper.
-
Vio looked closely at the note, now shined in UV light. "... see anything?" She asked, unsure if she was missing something or not.
-
"Well the submarine, but I don't know why that, they never hide things in the subs, they just store cargo and notes..." She leaned back thinking about it. "I guess I might have to go back and see..."
-
He opened the door as a wolf followed him in. His black hair moving back and forth from his hand. His green eyes gazing around the place as he sees if the wolf is allowed. A plain blue shirt and jeans adorned him. As he turns a sword is shown on his back. Upon careful looking a person would also notice knives hidden in his sides. Sitting down at the counter as the wolf lays down. Waiting for someone to take his order as he looks around once more. Quickly whispering to himself as he sighs. "Hopefully this place allows animals... lets see.." The wolf seems to give him a glare as if he said something wrong. The boy shrugging as he shakes his head at it before whispering. "Well I'm sorry you are a wolf."
-
The owner looked over the counter at the wolf. "Eh sure, it ain't too busy for people to be bothered." He put a coffee out on the table which Cornelia walked up and grabbed, all while still studying the note.
-
He looks over at the girl now curious about the note. Pausing as if he was making a conversation with something. The wolf began moving taking a peek at the note from an angle if able to. Turning back to the man he smiles. "I'll take a coffee if that's cool." Turning back to the girl as he seems very curious at the note. Shaking his head as he can't contain it anymore. "So what are you reading?"
-
Edited by Haknir: 7/10/2017 4:32:33 AMShe looked up at him and the wolf, intrigued by the two. She spoke with an Italian accent. "This? This is just a message I received. It was important for my team, but there's one problem, it's encrypted." She showed him it and on it was a series of text: AAVA XDVF FAFF XAVD AAF GGA FFDD ADVX "I've scanned it for a key or a solution but turned up empty, they normally provide a key, but not this time. Well not an obvious one..."
-
He looks at the text tilting his head as he pauses. A look on his face like he's trying to understand but can't. The wolf seeming to chuckle as it sits next to him. "Well that's... different, so what do you and your team do?" He smiles as he waits for his coffee. Looking back at her with a grin. His eyes looking into hers. "You a spy? Secret agent? Solider?"
-
She stared right back into his eyes smiling. "All of the above... we are a private military. We run various missions that usually end up dangerous." Meanwhile, the owner came back, sliding a coffee across the counter to him.
-
He takes a sip of his coffee as he lets out a happy sigh. Turning back to her once more with his cup in his hand. "Oh yeah? I'm sure that's a pretty interesting life. Me and Minerva here do our own contact work... although I don't think it's really military based." He pauses as he gives a weird look to himself trying to debate if what he was saying was good or not before shrugging. "So what mission was that note for?"
