The blade is coated in a thick enough layer of steel, and the actual inside of the spear's pole is a niobium-tin wire - a superconductive material that stretches from the bottom of the spear to its blade. Surrounding that is a layer of aerogel, over double the thickness of the niobium-tin; and surrounding the aerogel is a thin layer of steel. The blade is the same, minus the aerogel for extra deadliness. At the bottom of the pole, the niobium-tin wire curves to form a circuit with another part if it sticking straight down. This is what leads to the Lightning Rod's ability, and it's true deadliness. The Lightning Rod is just a spear until its bottom is charged with electricity. Electricity flows rapidly through the superconducting wire to the blade, where it reaches the steel; the blade glows with electricity, while the rest of said electricity either flows down the outside of the pole for aesthetic purposes or back through the niobium wire, where it travels around like it would in any circuit, and back to the blade. This allows the electricity from a charge up to last longer. The Lightning Rod is generally used in most close range combat situations, especially when there's an easy way to charge it up. Its steel pole can be used to block attacks, the wide gaps in the spear's blade able to catch other weapons as they are swung. It can be used to stab, poke, or thrust as well as to swing, due to the shape of its blade. Overall, the Lightning Rod is a very versatile weapon with very good cqc range; until it gets to actual long range combat. Built in is a system that allows the user to send an electric charge through the palm; nothing ranged, but enough to be painful to organisms that the gauntlets come into contact with, or charge things that require electricity. The most notable thing about the gauntlets are the fact that when an electric current is sent from a gauntlet to the spear, the spear's blade is surrounded by electricity. Generally, in CQC, while the right gauntlet is gripping the spear, the user would use the left gauntlet for electric punches, or a palm to the face for utter destruction.
