Dakota Jones and the Scholars pt. 5

"It's shields are still up!" Dakota yelled as the team scattered for cover. The Sunsinger spun around the pillar and shot at the monster. Exactly what he thought: it was impenetrable. "Master, look out!" Clara warned. Master Jal turned around to see Vex pouring in all around him. The arch-warlock looked at the shield on his arm, then began swinging it around. Soon, the only thing standing was the Guardian. "Channel your Light through me. The shield will break the unbreakable..." Master Jal looked around in confusion. Who said that? The Voidwalker looked at the shield again, then at the Templar. It all made sense, now. "Reload your weapons! Get ready to attack the hydra, on my mark!" Master Jal shouted as he ran to a vantage point. "You heard the man!" Brian shouted as well. Master Jal focused, and channeled all of his energy into the shield that he carried. Suddenly, a burst of Light shot towards the Templar and brought down its shields. "FIRE!!" The Awoken shouted. The stunned machine was pelted with machine gun shells, sniper rounds, and highly explosive rockets! It flinched, and plates broke off as it failed to absorb the damage. The Vex finally got reoriented, and teleported to safety. "We can shoot it!" Daniels cheered. "And if we can shoot it, we can beat it!" Dakota said as he patted the hunter's shoulder. "Hey, guys! I could use some help over here!" "Clara!" Dakota shouted as he spun around. The warlock was switching from target to target with her pulse rifle. Each Vex she shot exploded into scrap, but the machines kept coming. Master Jal jumped off of the second story and slammed the ground with the aegis. The shockwave obliterated all of the surrounding harpies. "Thanks," Clara said to the arch-warlock as she slid a fresh magazine into her gun. "It's back!!" Isaiah screamed as he ran for safety. The Templar had teleported right above him. "Get ready to fire!" Master Jal exclaimed. "On your mark!" Brian shouted. Another burst of Light brought down the hydra's shields. The Templar turned to Master Jal and began firing axion bolts at him. The warlock deployed an impenetrable shield, purely from raising the shield in front of him. He looked up to see the bolts get deflected. Master Jal chuckled nervously as he watched the explosions before him. "Hey, over here!" Dakota shouted as he put a sniper shell through the face of the hydra. The Templar turned just in time to see a salvo of rockets flying towards it. Boom! The Vex lost several segments of its body, and was now jittering from its systems being overloaded. "It's almost destroyed!" Master Jal shouted. The hydra prepared to teleport, but Brian and Isaiah jumped into the air and cast nova bombs at it. The Vex dropped to the ground and exploded! The six Guardians cheered and celebrated their victory! Master Jal dropped to a sitting position. "I'm not as young as I used to be..." "Don't quit on us now, Master. We're this much closer to stopping the Vex," Dakota said as he placed his rifle on his back. "I'm not finished, Jones..." Master Jal said with a laugh. He took Dakota's arm and got back up. "Let's find a place to hide away for the night..." he said to the team. "How about through this giant, obvious, loudly opening door?..." Clara asked. Master Jal spun around. "Um... Sure, that works. I was expecting some secret, narrow passage in a wall somewhere. Next time, I suppose..." The warlock team walked through the gate before it closed. After a short hike, they found themselves staring at a massive canyon. Dakota picked up a rock and dropped it over. He turned to Isaiah, who was counting. "I'm gonna stop at twenty seconds... I never heard it hit the bottom..." Isaiah stated. "I guess we could rest here," Brian said as he backed away from the edge. Suddenly, the Guardians were under sniper fire! "Nope! Jump!" Master Jal ordered. Before the team became blood paintings on the ground, they came to a soft, landing; thanks to their glide. The warlocks scanned the environment: no snipers in sight. Wonderful. Master Jal noticed a cave in the rock wall. He led the team in and prepared to hide away, but something else caught his attention. A door. The warlocks walked in and saw a chest, just sitting there. "Our next bit of loot..." Dakota stated. "Hey, where's our hunter?" Isaiah asked. Everyone looked around. There were only five people there. Where did Daniels end up? "AaaaaAAAAAHHHHH!" Pfft! Daniels had fallen from the ceiling and knocked up dust when he 'landed'. Everyone just stood around and stared at him. Daniels hopped up, trying to play it off cool, and dusted off his armor. "Where'd you come from?..." Brian asked. The hunter pointed up. "I found a secret tunnel cut into one of the walls..." Master Jal snapped his fingers. "I knew it..." The team turned to the crate and gazed upon their prizes. Everyone got more ascendant material, but Clara pulled out a bronze beauty. She spun the cylinder and checked the bullets. "Nice hand cannon," she said as she tested the sights. "Lucky..." Isaiah groaned.
