Relief from a waking nightmare Foot of the Dojo staircase 9:30 PM It was a quiet night. The remaining residents of Dojoville slept through the long night and through their long dreams. The only sound was that of wind on the trees, grass, and whistling through the debris of a hundred broken buildings. It was peaceful. And so it was, for the lone figure who silently awoke from his nightmare. He looked around, and blinked his cold grey eyes a few times. It was as if he couldn't believe what he saw. For when he got up from the old wheelchair he seemed bound too, he let out a sigh of the utmost relief. Yet...it was tinged with sadness. The figure quickly disregarded this, and walked forward a few paces. The sound of his gait was both maddening and harmonious. A soft pat punctuated with a single loud RAP of wood on stone. The reason for his odd gait was that his right leg ended in a peg, the prosthetic beginning under his right knee. His garb was odd. Flowing everyday clothes had been transformed into sturdy armor, a fabric that could resist some damage and keep its bearer alive. A cape flowed over a vest and dress shirt, and long black pants. The garb was old, and complimented the age of its wearer. The man had short grey hair that sprouted out from under a small hat, and his wrinkled and scarred hands were somewhat covered by thin grey gloves/wraps. Upon his back were old weapons. What appeared to be a staff situated next to a blunderbuss was shown on his back, the staff having the ability to fold for easier storage. Complimenting the staff was a long curved blade with a handle that doubled as a latch to be attached to the long staff. The attitude of the man was odd, if not more so than his appearance. Every fiber of his being exuded an air of grateful, if not sad, relief. He seemed an old war hero, a man who had walked out of hell itself upon the shoulders of one who thought him worthy of such respite. Thus.....began the end for a long night, and the end to an old man's dream...
intro
•
Because why not. Hurr hurr.
As the First Hunter proceeded to his location, he found...a familiar, heartwarming sight, really. Leaning upon a railing that he was walking near was a lonesome female, older than she had been when she had last spoken with him - Gehrman could recall that event well: the sighs of denial, her eventual acceptance of the Hunter's fate, then the scythe passing through her neck and freeing her from the Dream. She was bound in an article of clothing that reminded him of...Maria, oddly enough. It consisted of a dark grey longcoat, tattered and patched from tears and bulletholes, a velvet cape protruding from her right shoulder. A brass sheath, decorated with the symbols of old, hung at her waist alongside an unfamiliar weapon: a revolver. The woman sighed, looking up at the air as the left side of her face was seeable to the old Hunter. ...Irina?

 • He stopped, dead in his tracks. Hers was a face he had not seen in many years, it seemed. Everything came back in a rush, staggering him a little. His hands began to shake, and to help with this he put them on his trousers. After a few minutes he walked towards her, the gait a dead giveaway, as his peg hit the ground. He tried to speak, but finding that because of the fact that his waking body had not spoken in decades, he was unable to do so. It took him several tries before he managed a hoarse whisper "Irina?....."

 • Irina was brought back to reality, as she looked over at the First Hunter, her eyes widening in..fear? Surprise? But most of all: ...Reverence. "...Am I...hallucinating?" Irina muttered, turning towards Gerhman as she went silent. Her mouth quivered into a smile, as she pocketed her hands and shook her head. She didn't know how, or why, but...he was here, wasn't he? "...Is that actually you, Gerhman?"

 • He gave her a small smile. His face had more lines, more wrinkles, more sorrow than when she last saw him. The clothing he was wearing seemed in the same shape, as were the burial blade and his blunderbuss. "Yes my dear....It's me." He said, this time able to speak. His voice was the same, a reminder of her time with him. "Now....where are we?"

 • "I didn't know...that you could be freed from the Dream. I won't dwell on it... ...Well, this is the Waking World, more specifically a place called Tatakai. Up there-" Irina pointed, to the ancient Dojo. "-is the Dojo, a place for warriors and mages to train and fight. It's...interesting. Still, I...can't believe that you're alive."

 • "I am. I have been." He said, shaking his head. Then, he gave a sad sigh. "Another hunt started after you left, and the good Hunter who participated....refused my offer. I tried to stop them, keep them from my fate. Well....." He looked sorrowful, and before he continued took a moment to compose himself. "I failed. You can only leave the dream through death. The hunter freed me. Whether it was through their own sense of mercy, or the bloodlust....it doesn't matter though now, does it?" He shook his head like a dog would to rid itself of fleas. "But.....let us put that aside for the moment. You say we are here....on this...'Takatai'....how did you get here?"

 • "...After waking up, I.. ...I shouldn't go over how I got here. It brings up bad memories, and I did horrible things-" Irina shook her head solemnly, closing her eyes while still speaking. "...I betrayed the Church. I'm a Vileblood - I was one before even meeting the Queen. ...I ended up here. I don't know how, or why: I was on the run from an Executioner of the Church.."

 • He sighed "Irina........why?" Then he shook his head "Nevermind. It no longer matters, Yharnam, Cainhurst......I doubt they exist anymore. Nobody could control the scourge, even with the dream."

 • "...Why? Why?!" ...One could say that Irina sounded furious. "Because the fuсking Church let a madman get away with the murder of my family and Samuel, under the accusation that they were beasts! Because the Queen decided to come at last, and offer her "guidance"?! And where were you? Stuck in some goddamn dream, chopping off Hunter heads instead of letting them end your misery!" Irina went silent, before promptly slamming her fist into the railing, bending the metal with a single punch. How odd...Irina never possessed such strength. She was built and trained for dexterity.

 • Gehrman paid little attention to the pounding on the rail, even though her attack struck him like an actual blow. "I....I didn't know. Irina...you know I couldn't allow them to suffer through what I did. You know I cared for each and every one of you. I wish I was there. I'm sorry..." He said, quietly leaning on the railing, his breathing a little ragged now

 • "...I'm sorry. For everything." Irina broke the silence, looking back at Gerhman with a saddened smile. She sighed, shaking her hand - her metallic hand - as she spoke up. "So much has changed and gone by, since you've been gone. You probably met my, erm...child, Arianna. It's hard to explain, but she was a huntress, so I figured.."
