Monuments to Our Pasts "There was a man who saw the reason There was a man who changed it all There was a man they charged with treason There was a man who took the fall We knew a man who had the power Made us all see eye to eye He took us to the final hour And never asked the reason why Have to stand up for someone" -Fireball Ministry Phoenix Monument, Dojo, Tatakai The monument stood isolated and alone, a forgotten token of remembrance to a fallen martyr. It had been some time since the martyr's death, and as the time went on, his past had become buried, a forgotten legacy lost to the sands of time. As the wind gently blew through the Dojo, the monument to the Cobalt Phoenix stood, a solemn nod to the history of the Dojo, and the history of many members, their lives inexplicably tied to the story of the man who gave his all and received little in return. Out of the night's silence, a figure approached the structure. In his full suit of armor, he looked extremely imposing. The exosuit was painted matte black, with scratches and scrapes all across it, along with a few bullet ricochet marks. On his left leg, a large Bowie knife sat in its sheath. At his waist, a leather gunbelt, and at each of his hips, a .44 magnum, Smith and Wesson Model 629 Stealth Hunters. Magnum shells lined the gunbelt as well. Across his chest, a bandolier, with numerous tactical pouches used to store various items for any situation. His cloak was back, exposing both his shoulders and his helmet. On his left pauldron, a kukri was situated in its sheath, and on his right, five .50BMG rounds sat in a sidesaddle. The tip of his sword's hilt could be seen over his right shoulder, the stock of his Barrett M107A1 over his right. However, what stood out the most was the mask he wore. It fully covered his face and head, and the lenses of the eyes glowed an eerie blue. Like the armor, it was painted entirely black, save for three jagged white slashes across the right side, painted bright white. Approaching the monument, he stood silently, gazing at it, deep in thought.
Open
• There were footsteps behind the armored man, and then a gruff voice "You BlackJack's kid?"

 • "What gives it away, the armor, the mask, or the guns?" He said cooly, looking over the statue.

 • "The armor? The mask? The guns? Son, look around, and see where you are. Some armor, a mask, and some guns don't mean a thing here." The man still didn't bother to reveal himself "It's the fact you know. You know what this place used to be. Your dad did, and so did him." He said, referencing the statue "The man had his faults....both did. Hell, I remember being at the mercy of both. They were still good people regardless. It's good that you remember that."

 • "Not a man in this entire place carries a mask like my father's. Not a man carries a weapon like his. None of them were as feared, no matter what they may say. The Cobalt Phoenix was a good man, but my father was no hero." He replied coldly.

 • "Your father also wasn't a tyrant. He might've been many things, but he wasn't as bad as some shit I've seen. Again, look around you, everyone here has something special, everyone here uses some sort of fancy weapon" He laughed "The legacy, however, like you said, does make it special in its own way. Me? I'm just an old sonofabitch guard who just won't crawl into a hole and die like everyone else did. That's my legacy"

 • "Oh no, of course he wasn't a tyrant. He was just the man who enforced a tyrant's will." Wolfe replied, voice laced with venom and sarcasm.

 • "Eh, I don't care. Men have come and gone here, some good, some bad, and everywhere in between." Said the man with a sigh

 • "Place has seen a lot since its beginnings... the rise and fall of The Cobalt Phoenix, June Bellicose, Alex Wilson, Salazar, Venom Incorporated..." He replied, turning to look out over the Dojo below.

 • "Sometimes the things we dread are the very things we need to remember. To forget them is to do a disservice to ourselves." He replied.

 • "The Phoenix of Blues, right?" Said a rather young voice from behind the Armoured woman, the sounds of footsteps becoming louder as she approached. "Quite the monument." Her eyes grazed over the sculpture, it's jagged and smooth edges. She was glad in a dark brown leather armour, with a black cape flowing down her back and going to her waist. Her hair was cut short, almost shoulder length, and she bore a mask on her face that cover her lips and nose, leaving her eyes exposed.

 • The soldier turned, looking to the woman behind him, surprised to hear another voice. "Rather surprised to see that those here still remember the Cobalt Phoenix." He said, his voice calm, sounding metallic through his helmet. "It seems that many of them have forgotten their history."

 • "It's not only our history. It's the history of these walls. These buildings, right? I've heard stories, but never anything more than just stories." Her voice fell towards the end, simply staring at the statue

 • "I never knew him personally, but I had the opportunity to speak to him once or twice before. He knew my father and one of my friends well." The man said, looking back at the statue.

 • "What stories have you heard? Are any of them true?" She asked this with a hopeful voice, searching for some indication that this statue actually meant something

 • "He's the reason that this place still stands." The soldier said. "He sacrificed himself to stop a civil war, and saved the Dojo from destruction in the process. The monument stands as a commemoration of his actions." "And I was told this by the very man he fought."

 • "Good and evil are arbitrary, mere perspectives. What lives on is the effect that events have when they shape the world. Perhaps what is remembered is what needs to be remembered for the sake of our survival." He said.
