A recent example: Mass Effect Andromeda. I read they could have had 6 more months to polish the game before releasing it. The amount of pre-orders were high enough to say "F it, let's get paid" after they weighed the cost of 6 more months development time VS pre-order sales. This is a great example of how pre-ordering something you know nothing about is a bad idea. Instead of 6 months of polish & quality improvement we got "my face is tired". Pre-orders often lead to a worse game. Hell, I spent $100 today on cherries. I saw the cherries were of top quality and supported the salesman. I wasn't sold a future promise that could have gone poorly if I invested before seeing the final product. It's not about having a job or disposable income. It's about supporting a bad business practice.
