A fairly accurate analogy.
Big difference being that when I "vote" for a game, I essentially get what I voted for. That doesn't always happen in elections. Either way, we "vote" and we hope to get a product that brings us satisfaction. Preordering is basically casting an early ballot.
To expound upon the analogy, I liked Destiny. I am more than likely to elect it to another term (Destiny 2). How much I am impressed/excited by it will influence when I "vote" for it. May 18th is the very earliest that I will preorder.
