I think you mistake our intent to not pre-order the game. At least you do with regards to myself. My whole stance on refusing to pre-order the game is less about thinking my decision will change the game at launch and more about wanting to see if the game is even going to be worth buying. I enjoyed the heck out of Y1 Destiny, and as they continued to make changes to the game through Y2 and Y3, I found my enjoyment of the game to be far reduced from when I first bought into the game. Given this, it makes complete sense to sit and wait to see how the game will be at launch before buying into the game. I want to see whether the game is more like Y1 or more like Y2 in terms of foundation. I want to know that doing the endgame will yield the best rewards in the game and they'll actually be worth chasing after (superior to what else is available). I want to know that PVE and PVP are separated so our great gear in PVE can stay that way for the duration of the title, rather than have to endure these stupid nerf cycles with minor buffs that never quite reset the weapons back to baseline, - but somehow, we're supposed to be thankful for them anyways. I want to see how Bungie manages the game with their new engine. They said they'd be able to respond and make changes to the game faster. Is this going to result in an improved gaming experience, or is it simply going to translate into more nerfs FASTER than they were able to pump out the nerfs in Y1? In PVP, are they going to start fighting the very nature of the game, or are they going to embrace a less-haloesque balancing approach and let Destiny thrive under balancing changes tuned for this game, not the game Bungie used to make. These are all things that we cannot know, even on the day of launch. It will take some time to observe how the game is managed. This has largely been Destiny 1's biggest downfall - the poor management of the game. Since we need to observe how the game unfolds both at launch and in the short-term following launch, it really makes no sense to buy in early and pre-order the game. This is doubly true when you consider that veteran players bought in for a premium in D1 and were in no better position than guardians who got a later start at a cheaper price. From a consumer standpoint, it just makes sense to hold back and take a wait-and-see approach.

 • I totally get people who don't want to buy the horse before they look at in the mouth I'm just speaking out against the people who speak out against people who pre-order I guess you could call it a case of economic antidisestablishmentarianism.

 •
antidisestablishmentarianism.
Great word. LOL. If Y2 and Y3 of Destiny were more like Y1, I'd probably be jumping to pre-order D2. But the fact of the matter is, from my standpoint, the quality of the product has been in steep decline since the HoW era. They've strayed way too far away from what made Y1 so fun in the first place, and that ultimately impacted my decision to bypass RoI and just wait to see if D2 is the gamechanger that RoI needed to be. Before I'll be moved to spend more money on a Bungie-game, I need to see what it is like first. And to be honest, Bungie can't really expect any less. They've burned and pissed off a lot of players who would otherwise have been very loyal hardcore fans. They've taken us for granted, and it often seems like they stop caring about you the moment you buy their product. People aren't going to take that kind of treatment and reward it with a pre-order. At least smart people won't.

I was tempted to come back too, but then I thought about it a bit deeper. I'd have to spend $30.00 to buy RoI just to play it. Then the gear we'd be getting isn't the gear we used to have in Y1. Sure, VoC may say VoC, it may even have solar burn. Fatebringer may have Arc Burn and all the perks it had back in Y1 when it was everyone's favorite HC. But they AREN'T the weapons that we loved back in Y1. They've been destroyed by making them exotic or having their burns removed, through PVP nerfs that effect PVP, and the watering down of our weaponry in general since Y1 launched. All they're really providing is a taste of the glory days we USED to have in Y1 that they should never have abandoned in the first place. I know it worked for some and a lot of players who used to play went back just to play AoT. But it just wasn't worth it to me. Especially considering that nothing you do from here on out is going to impact your experience in D2. Nothing's carrying forward.

 • I agree with everything that you've said except for that I regret it not pre-ordering the first destiny. I was pretty burn when we couldn't continue level in our gear along with ourselves and that really pissed me off with DJ said what do you want to keep the same weapons for 10 years and I said fact yes I do want to keep the same weapon for 10 years got damn it

 •
I agree with everything that you've said except for that I regret it not pre-ordering the first destiny
Honestly, your probably the first person I've ever heard utter those words. I pre-ordered Destiny 1 Vanilla and while I won't say that I regretted it, I will say that the game didn't quite meet my expectations. The game was flawed for sure. But they did some great things on a foundational level that made the game a TON of fun and addicting to play in spite of its flaws. Then they completely abandoned the foundation, tore it apart, and rebuilt it in Y2 and the game has been terrible ever since IMO.
I was pretty burn when we couldn't continue level in our gear along with ourselves and that really pissed me off with DJ said what do you want to keep the same weapons for 10 years and I said fact yes I do want to keep the same weapon for 10 years got damn it
Yeah, i wanted to keep my guns as well. I wish what they did was make all guns Exclusive to those who found those guns during that particular year/era so that they were permanently unobtainable, but always relevant. This would mean that by Y10, my fatebringer, patience/time, etc. would buy me huge bragging rights that I could show off with pride - because I was there during Y1 and I struggled and I got a ton of great loot along the way. But instead, this game has gone the way of having less exclusivity, less limited-time items to earn, and has gone more towards normalizing the game's best loot so that no special snowflake feels left out. Not only did this make the game boring and pointless, but it took away the entire point of the game: the grind to get elite tier, top end loot. I was totally dissatisfied with the game Chrismas of 2015, but kept playing to play with friends and because the content was free. I wasn't going to pay more money for more of the same.
