Problem is... the only people left playing are the streamers (well vast majority) who are all mad trials addicts. They have played the game for thousands of hours for revenue/donations thus they have just become pure sweat and have the twitch joypad movements down to a T. (Excuse the pun)... its a sweet deal for them... can't really blame em. Sadly, the introduction of trials also brought a nasty crowd to the game, anything with that much locked content behind a 9 wins in a row without loss will do just that. (Bad design choice in my opinion). Mostly unintentionally, these streamers attract the kind of people who for some reason cant make real world friends, the majority of whom act extremely bi-polar in a love-hate-die of cancer kind of way). These beings flock into the chats of their favourite streamers and become obsessed with them, some others get very salty and angry, and THIS is what we see in the majority of destiny crucible playlists now (just go into any of the streamer chats for a browse, they are everywhere). The early days of discovery and fun are long gone and so are the majority of the fan base that initially grew destiny from its abysmal 6/10 at launch, because quite frankly, they would rather be doing something better with their time. This Game will never be a fun 'pick up and play pizza and beer game' like it should be. Hopefully they give the addicts their own playlist in the next game and then more people might stick around. The game is just brutal to play now and with all the nerfs over the past two years have taken all the fun out of the game. Crucible has never been the same since TTK. Cant wait for D2 though! Thats when I'll be back.
