Happy V Day and Singles Awareness Day everyone! Wether u will be with that special someone today or contemplating the meaning of love I wish u the best.
Welcome to my latest lore post where we will discuss the origins and sparse knowledge of Worms, Ahamkara, and wish dragons. Notice that this topic can be rather vague and easy to debate about due to the lack of knowledge, but I used the grimoires to be as accurate as possible (especially Book of Sorrows) and make sure to tell me what u all think. My interpretations of the BoS may differ from yours

Worms:
Worms are the reason the Hive came to be the Hive. They were locked away deep within Fundament by the Traveler and Leviathan years before Aurash discovered them, and were the only known agents of Darkness within the universe. Only a small number of these Worms lived in the core of Fundament, all of these few being very powerful and becoming known as the Hive Worm gods, and they have the ability to thin the Veil/Void in a way that lets them talk with the Darkness. They can use the power of the Darkness and when they lured Aurash and her sisters to them they shared their knowledge of the Deep. In return, they spawned many larvae and filled Auryx's (name, morph, and gender change) ship with them to be spread amongst the Hive. In this symbiotic relationship, the Hive feed their Worm and in return grow stronger. But the Worm grows ever hungrier and when the Hive host can no longer provide enough food it consumes the host.
The Worms match the description of the Ahamkara, growing to massive sizes with large coiling lengths and razor fangs as well as withholding vast knowledge. It also seems that these Worms have been around about as long as the Traveler, for they have been fighting against it possibly as long as it has been in our realm and know all about the Light and the Deep, which also means they could be from the same realm.
Ahamkara and wish dragons:
The Ahamkara have been around for a long time. As far as we can tell they are the species referred to as wish dragons and have been in our system as long as the Traveler, because they have been found in many of the locations it has visited. The Ahamkara are described as beings having massive coiled bodies, gaping maws, spreading wings, and vast intelligence (what we would describe as dragons or wyrms). They have an unprecedented amount of knowledge and seem to have enjoyed playing mind games and influencing the actions of others.
As shown in the Book of Sorrows and the Ahamkara Hunt grimoire, they would perform tasks or give information in exchange for something from the person requesting. The wish dragons have been requested to fight the Hive on at least a couple occasions and the very first time they actually almost destroyed the Hive on their own.
According to the Book of Sorrows, the races of Harmony had the wish dragons battle the Hive, who were enraged under the pretense that others had the same gods as them (this suggests that wish dragons and Worms are the same species). The Hive infiltrated the Harmony and killed them off, eventually finishing off their Bishops (the wish dragons) as well. These are listed as two separate victories in these grimoires which further suggests that the dragons were not members of the Harmony alliance.
After the Collapse and development of Guardians, Ahamkara were found in our system and often sought out by Guardians in the hopes of learning about ways to defeat the Darkness. The Ahamkara, however, would play with whichever Guardian minds they could and liked telling Guardians things that made them doubt the Light. Eventually they were deemed too dangerous despite the information that we gained from them and the Great Ahamkara Hunt began. Bones of the Ahamkara killed were taken as prizes and still seem to influence the minds of their bearers. People who hold or wear Ahamkara bones suffer from nightmares, hear a voice in their mind that no one else can, and suffer from uncharacteristically and inexplicably prideful and aggressive behavior. Those who hold them long enough also seem to have trouble getting rid of the bones. Notice that the Osmium King had a dead Worm that washed up from Fundament's seas, which was obtained by Sathona (Savathûn) after his death, and both could hear it speaking in their minds.
Despite our best efforts to clear them from our system, Ahamkara have been sighted above Jupiter, and we cannot venture there because it is Nine territory. Both Ahamkara and wish dragons are found where the Traveler has visited and have identical behavioral descriptions, further adding to the evidence that they are the same.
Overall: Ahamkara, wish dragons, and Worms may all be the same species (just a theory here), they seem to having matching physical and behavioral descriptions and all hold great power. Worms at least can manipulate the Void almost as well as the Traveler, making it highly likely that they came from the other side of the Veil since they already show the ability to thin it. The Traveler took on the form of a moon-sized machine when it came here, and the Worms and Ahamkara took the forms of dragons, but these creatures must have taken sides between the Light and Darkness and separated based on choice. Those that followed the Light and came to the systems it visited became Ahamkara/wish dragons while those that followed the Darkness and hunted the Traveler became Worms.

There's not a whole lot of information to work with on these species, so I hope I successfully conveyed what we do know to all of you and that you'll consider the evidence supporting my theories. I'd love to hear back from all of you on my work about your views of the origin and fate of the Ahamkara, wish dragons, and Worms, so feel free to comment on any thoughts you had while reading.

Edited by Cepaceous: 2/15/2017 11:22:25 PMThere's a Calcified Fragment where the Hive Worms speak to Auryx and Savathûn in a similar manner to the Ahamkara XII: Out of the Deep "Reality is a fine flesh, oh general ours. Let us feast of it."
