Kings fall: Love it or hate it?

I just played kings fall for the first time, absolutely loved it. It was super challenging especially sisters. And it's gear is also incredibly Badass looking. So why does a large majority of the community dislike it so much?

  • Really sexy gear. It's just no one knows how to beat effing golgorath, and I always got jiffed with class items whenever I could find a team with more than half a brain between the 5 of them.

  • People don't dislike it as much as they are just sick of running it. After all it was THE only viable raid that gave relevant light lever gear for an entire year. So most people played it to death.

    • I loved this raid. Only thing that sucked was having to team wipe with one death, but it made you play that much better because it made you not want to be that guy. As far as loot, I still got my heavy machine gun and my smite of merain pulse rifle with firefly. I believe it's the only pulse rifle with firefly as a perk option in the game. Someone can correct me if im wrong tho.

      • I love the mechanics. I love how long it is. I love how you can bond with friends through the experience. It's hard finding enough people sometimes

I love Kings Fall and because of its size and difficulty it is one, if not my favorite, Raid from a player experience, but the weapon rewards were a little underwhelming (I still like the scout rifle and machine gun when fighting Taken.) but other than those two weapons the rest were trash. I think most people disliked the raid or quit at the end because once you got to Sisters/Oryx most people seemed to become really confused and incompetent. "The first plate is counter clockwise of the relic plate." I can't tell you how many times I'd try to explain Sidters/Oryx and people didn't understand simple things like what "counter-clockwise" means...I still love the raid though, did it for nostalgia about a month ago with some people.

      • Because it is incredibly difficult due to the fact that if anyone died the entire team had to die...

      • Here's the thing. I REALLY got hooked on Destiny in Y1 because I loved running the raids. At one point, I was running 6 + raids a week with different teams, even when I couldn't get any rewards or drops. I just ran them to help others through. So when HoW didn't have a raid, I was thoroughly disappointed, and when Kings Fall was announced as the TTK raid, I was stoked. I think Kings Fall is a fun raid to play. Sure, its not the VoG, but it was difficult, fun to play, challenging on many levels for a variety of players, and it was the first raid we figured out from back to front without any video aids or guides. But I have two reasons why I hate it and don't have even close to as many completions as I do completions for the Y1 raids: 1. The WAY Kings Fall divides your teams power essentially makes it so that there is less team play. Sure, you are all on the same team, and you are all doing your part in order to help pass the raid challenges, but because of the mechanics of the raid works, in most instances, you can't really have a "buddy system" where people are always paired up with a teammate nearby to act as a fail safe. This puts more emphasis on a players ability to be able to survive on their own. And if you don't know where the threats are coming from, and nobody is watching your back, that is just a bad recipe overall in a raid. 2. The gear. Sure it LOOKS cool, but it totally sucks as far as raid gear goes. Cocoon would be a nice perk if it was an additional perk to a standardized perk tree like oracle disruptor is for the VoG weapons or Hive Disruptor is for the Crota weapons. But its not. It takes up a perk slot on the base perk tree, meaning that instead of three random perks you could have to improve your gun, your limited to TWO. And cocoon isn't that useful on guns that already have fast reloads. In fact, all of the gear in Kings Fall, save the Heavy Machine Gun, are all utter trash. They're nothing more than infusion fuel. They're not top-of-the-PVE-world quality or even on par with vendor gear because of the way the perk slot works. This made it so that the rewards for completing kings fall were utterly inadequate and unfulfilling overall. Instead of feeling like you just conquered mount everest, you felt like you reached the top of the mountain, only to get kicked in the teeth because the loot was so bad. I think Kings Fall is a great example of the reason why we need raid gear to be elite-tier loot. That raid was very hard to do if you did it blind. But once you figured it out, it was fun to do. There just wasn't any reason to play it. In the time you could run kings fall, you could have run a larger number of strikes and had many many more opportunities to get exotics OR strike-specific gear which by far surpassed anything offered in the raid. That, plus the average completion time for Kings Fall was pretty high still, even at the end of the TTK era with LL at 335. Most people didn't wan't to spend the time it took to run the raid just to get crap rewards.

i think kings fall is ok but its kinda of challenging and most of the time its RNG when fighting bosses. Fun is too nice of a word i think irratating is better. If you truly want fun go play VoG thats a classic and most rewarding raid.

        • I liked it until april update which is arguably when the light system became useless and the game just went downhill from there. The last time i did it i remember i hated it because the lfg teams suck.

I rate kings fall 2/10 I rate wrath of the machine 8/10 I rate vault of glass 10/10 I rate Crota's end 6/10 My opinion.
kings fall is rated so low because the weapons are garbage and I just simply disliked doing the raid.
Edit: I feel that I need to clarify that these are my opinions, these ratings do not show the worst or best raids. It is to show how I think about them, if it has a low rating then I had a bad and not fun time doing it, a high rating means it was really fun. Crota's end is near the middle becuase it is fun but it's more of a strike then a raid.

          • I loved it... It was the one raid I can honestly say that I truly mastered. It was fun and difficult at the same time. There were DPS checks in the beginning. But after BS and ToM... Things got alot easier.

          • It's just oryx that is too hard, the only reason why he is hard is cause he is so buggy.

          • Hate it. It takes forever, Oryx is really buggy and it's really hard to find a team that can run it well, especially for Gologorath and Oryx.

            • Best raid imo. The final boss was an actual boss we know and have seen. & the raid just felt more epic overall; it had more meaning. Just my opinion of course.

            • Because: A) it was very long and most groups who weren't committed enough would split up after getting to Oryx. B) very heavy raid mechanics, and focused too much on them. C) it requires most of the time for a whole fireteam of 6 to be present during each boss encounter. So one person screws up and dies, then it's probably a wipe.

            • Very much like it. Still do. The raid is challenging no matter what your Light is because of its emphasis on mechanics over DPS. Superbly designed, and so far it's the only raid (other than Crota, which is really an über-strike) that meshes seamlessly with the lead-up story arc for the DLC/expansion and really feels like it is a satisfying conclusion to it. Even VOG felt a bit like it was dropped out of the blue with no build-up. End of Vanilla, we kill the Heart of the Black Garden...aaaaaaand...here's Atheon all of a sudden. WOTM? Only the vaguest of hints, and no real build-up to Aksis outside of the Grimoire that you may or may not get depending on how thorough you are finding SIVA clusters. Crota was better - we could all see it coming... But King's Fall? The build-up was there from the beginning. I miss that raid...

              • Here's my problem with it, it just felt way too reliant on mechanics. You didn't die often because you were put in a challenging combat scenario, you died often because of mechanics in the encounters. Now don't get me wrong, too little of the mechanics and you get a strike, but too much and it feels like a puzzle game with platformer aspects. My personal favorite was VoG. I felt it had a perfect balance of mechanics that made things tough (Being corrupted or whaever by oracles, and the whole cleanse thing, or the entire time flux portals), but weren't the standout killer of groups. I have had just as many wipes in VoG because someone gets lost in the dark corners of time as i have for being overwhelmed by praetorians or exploding harpies. I don't have the stats but from personal experience, I hardly ever died because there were too many adds and I made a bad tactical decision, I died because I didn't get behind a pillar fast enough, or my runner died and i had to wipe. That is why kings fall isn't my favorite. Still fun, and the loot does look awesome too. Loved the warlock gear
