Kings fall: Love it or hate it?

I just played kings fall for the first time, absolutely loved it. It was super challenging especially sisters. And it's gear is also incredibly Badass looking. So why does a large majority of the community dislike it so much?

  • I thought sisters was -blam!-ing easy. My first time through my group went through all other parts as fast as you would normally expect. Got to sisters and it took us around 5 minutes. Maybe less. Super easy.

    • Overall, for me, the likes far outweigh the dislikes. It's challenging, a good duration, and the loot is great. No complaints here.

      • Kings fall was a great raid in my opinion, the mechanics of the raid made it where you at least needed to have a competent fireteam, that made it somewhat difficult to carry someone especially at the sisters cp. All in all though, I loved it but after a 100+ completions I got burnt out just like everything else pve.

      • The mechanics were such that one person could cause a wipe easily. This led to a feeling of pressure- either not wanting a group of randoms to get mad at you, or not wanting to let down your friends. This meant that a lot of runs would be unpleasant experiences, with people rage-quitting or getting kicked, or feeling like they let people down. My clan was really down on King's Fall, and one guy said he had lost a lot of friends to that raid. Meaning people would bicker and not want to play with some of the other people again. I was lucky to join a good raid team, and wound up with around 90 hard mode completions. But even then, on a bad night with people tired/drunk/high, we could struggle on one part or another. And since you couldn't always get six, there was a range of randoms you'd encounter, from the great players to the nice but decent players, to the idiots, the rage-quitters, the know-it-alls, and the dictators. But yeah, regarding the pressure: I remember in my early days being one of those who was praying not to get torn on sisters- it was a relief when I finally got good enough to have fun getting torn, even with a warlock, and taking satisfaction in running both legs. I also remember people being bad at jumping and repeatedly apologizing while we told them they were good, that we had all been there at one point. I personally really liked King's Fall. I remember so many nights, getting home on a cool night and feeling the atmosphere of the ship jumping part as we warmed up for the run. But for me I think it was key to be a part of a regular, skilled team, so we usually didn't get frustrated or stuck- normally it was a fun time, with people joking around and dancing and doing e-motes.

      • Fun raid, super challenging (especially with lfg group). Gear and weapons sucked so pretty pointless. The scale of the raid is impressive though. Much more deserving of being called a raid than Crota's End

      • I disliked all the mechanics involved and how everybody had to do something different. Plus LFG was an absolute nightmare for KF

      • Not as fun after 100 completions but still a very good raid. The scale of the raid is what I loved.

        • I'm not a pve player anymore, but I was in year two. I loved KF, loved the theme and the mechanics, but the raid weapons were horrible. 7/10 for me.

I personally enjoy it. Compared to other raids, it's a technical masterpiece. The only issue with it is that once you learn the mechanics, there's very little you can do to spice up the run, make it interesting. That's why Challenge Modes were implemented, because the raid was essentially a straight road. You do all the mechanics, you beat the raid. There were no curveballs like PoE with elemental burns or different modifiers, or VoG with a ton of enemies to keep you on your feet. That's why people like WoTM and VoG so much. It has the proper blend of objective-based mechanics while also using enemies in various ways to constantly change up the run, making each experience feel a little more interesting than the last. With WoTM having Challenge Modes, this only got better. Should Bungie ever decide to remaster the old raids, please implement Challenge Modes. I want something different, not the same strats that I used pre-Year 2 to beat them.

          • If it was your first time I can imagine the joy and fun you felt from it, and yes this is definitely the case for most of that raid. However I find it funny that you say the sisters was super challenging. In my opinion, that is the only section of the raid which is badly built. It provides an opener into the next section against Oryx however imploys a randomisation mechanic that makes it impossible to practice the jumps. I personally have no problem with doing the jumps very quickly on any class, however there are some people who either can't jump with that confidence or are running with their 2nd or 3rd character and can't get used to that class's jump style after playing with their preferred class. The only way to practice is to drag 3 other friends along to Oryx (meaning you have to have already beat the sisters) and just take turns jumping while the 3 others jump on the plates. In absolutely all other raids and even Skolas. You are able to practice the major mechanic before it is employed and it is also a choice, not random. I honestly don't know why they made this random, at best what they should have done is have one person purposefully do the jumps for the 1st sister but for the 2nd run that would be random. That would have allowed choice for the jumps and considering you have much less time for the 2nd sister (hard mode) would mean that the difficulty in setting up and nailing the jumps would still be present. I love Kings Fall raid, but the Sisters is the worst thing in the entire game of Destiny. And that is taking into effect all the broken things in the crucible, so you know i'm not impressed. Also, Congrats on your first run.

          • Meh. Done the raid a bunch, and while it's cool, doing that long of a raid that is heavily based on mechanics can get tedious. Also the fact that it only drops a max of 335 loot (even though it is awesome loot) makes it not really worth it.

          • Possibly because of when it first released, its rewards were random light levels instead of what we have now. Some people also don't like it being so mechanics heavy and difficult. If one person dies, you should probably just wipe.

            • I liked it. It wasn't better than VoG but you kill a god in this one which is pretty badass let's be honest. The warlock gear was shit looking though but it doesn't surprise me. I haven't seen good gear since VoG.
