Kings fall: Love it or hate it?

I just played kings fall for the first time, absolutely loved it. It was super challenging especially sisters. And it's gear is also incredibly Badass looking. So why does a large majority of the community dislike it so much?

  • Here's my problem with it, it just felt way too reliant on mechanics. You didn't die often because you were put in a challenging combat scenario, you died often because of mechanics in the encounters. Now don't get me wrong, too little of the mechanics and you get a strike, but too much and it feels like a puzzle game with platformer aspects. My personal favorite was VoG. I felt it had a perfect balance of mechanics that made things tough (Being corrupted or whaever by oracles, and the whole cleanse thing, or the entire time flux portals), but weren't the standout killer of groups. I have had just as many wipes in VoG because someone gets lost in the dark corners of time as i have for being overwhelmed by praetorians or exploding harpies. I don't have the stats but from personal experience, I hardly ever died because there were too many adds and I made a bad tactical decision, I died because I didn't get behind a pillar fast enough, or my runner died and i had to wipe. That is why kings fall isn't my favorite. Still fun, and the loot does look awesome too. Loved the warlock gear

    • Kings Fall was great. When TtK came out, my clan was in its prime. We would knock out our 3 raids just after reset and spend the rest of the week (after work) carrying people through.

Because it wasn't the first raid. Most people are in love with VoG because it was the first raid and they refuse to admit that destiny has had good stuff since then. Also, it's how a raid should be (too much teamwork, communication, mechanics, etc.) and that's not what people want for a raid. They want a boring raid that feels closer to a strike having you clear waves of enemies without doing much else (VoG).

      • I didnt like how the weapons didn't become useful in other activities i.e. fatebringer and black hammer.

        • Combination of it being the only Raid (with top level gear) for an entire year, and the fact that it was way too reliant on mechanics. My regular group nicknamed this raid King's Wipe since if you lost one or two teammates in most sections you were better off wiping and starting fresh since it was close to impossible to fight your way back or manage the mechanics without a full team. To me the King's Fall raid is a complete overreaction to Crota's End which was clearly put together too quickly and could easily be solo'd. As such they wanted to ensure that the new raid required a full team to complete and they did that by implementing Boss HP and mechanics such that anything less than a full team would have a very difficult time managing any one section should they lose a player or two in the process. Unfortunately by doing so they robbed players of the experience of being able to claw their way back in clutch situations as they could in VoG which in my opinion still had the best mix of combat and mechanics. WotM has corrected this a bit requiring mechanics which are complex, but also leaving room to lose a couple of team mates along the way and still eek out a victory by persevering, so that not every death requires a complete team wipe.

        • You bad. Only first time. Git gud. Not very much a pro player. Might as well leave the community. Learn to be an og player. Lol only first time. We, as a community, laugh at you for being such a horrible player and your contribution to society is massively lacking. Hahaha scrub and bad player.

          • Raid was very enjoyable. The weapons sucked except for the machine gun (which was later nerfed hard.) I would assume that is why people disliked it so much.

          • Long story short- the ends did not justify the means. Seriously, each part involves such a tedious and repetitive mechanic that can easily force a wipe with just one death in the team- especially with a sub-par squad. All that work for useless weapons (except the LMG). The raid armor is alright, but certainly not worth the frustration...

I loved that raid, I usually did it around six times a week to get my loot and to help others. After awhile though it bacame very tedious when we would get stuck somewhere making dumb mistakes. It just stopped being fun after awhile.

          • Because most of us pug a group and 9/10 you'd get a group that just kept -blam!-ing up and when it came out it was glitchy as hell plus under leveled

          • its because of your high light that made is easy, back when max was 320 and the raid was the only way to get it, that shite was sweaty as -blam!-! we just all have bad memories of teams that are incapable of learning. I'm glad that you had a good first time, but most of us didn't.

          • Loved it, I don't care for the armor sets or the weapons(except for a few). VoG imo has the best armor and weapons for each character and WOTM is my favorite raid.

            • I think people struggled with it the most due to being so mechanically heavy. The crap weapons bar a couple did it no favours either, loot is what most people do the raids for. I've beaten it enough times but got tired of it quick.

            • If you have a team that communicates and works together the raids are some of the most amazing experiences in Destiny. GG guardian!

This was probably the most technically challenging raid. Armor was crap, Weapons were crap..... I ran it for the check box, scored my Quillims, completed my Touch of Malice, got the -blam!- out. Overall... wasn't worth the time investment.

                • For me, it's easy, I've run that raid over 50 times easy...probably closer to 100. Do it that many times and see if you don't hate it for awhile. And keep in mind your doing it with knowledge of the quickest way, probably a team that has no problem doing it, and light level is even higher to make it even easier. Over half the times we did it, someone was new, so we had to explain everything, all the time. Then you always have that one person that wants to do jumping puzzle but can't, or just stinks at it. Then you have the random accidental wipes and it's very time consuming. So in the end, yea I've come to hate it and thus why I've probably only done Wrath of the Machine on Hard one time. The last good raid was Crota...to me. You got good weapons from it, it was a challenge, but mainly because the weapons were sweet. My two cents.

                • It's also one of the harder raids to explain. When we had a random or two, my former raid group always wanted me to do the explaining but after a while I hated trying to explain the different parts. Totems was sort of difficult to explain unless you tried to do an example run real quick so they could see for themselves how everything looked. Golgoroth wasn't too bad to explain unless it was challenge week. The challenge was way to explain as well, but good god I must have heard 5 or 6 different strategies that were "definitely the best" for challenge. Every time I went to Golgoroth with randoms they'd do a different strategy. Thing is, all of them were good and worked, but you had everyone on the team wanting to do It a different way and arguing about which was best. Normally, I'd take my smoke break during this time. Daughters and Oryx were both a nightmare to explain, especially to people that had never set foot in that room. People works freak out if they were picked to be the runner at Daughters. Normally a wipe would happen after the first daughter was killed because that second round starts so fast. And oryx? Jesus. It really isn't that hard to do, but to explain? It's a mouthful. "Your night spawns here if you're on the back plates, but here if you're up front, and run to the middle, and when we detonate the bombs... yes The ogres drop these bombs right, and they... no they are black orbs... jesus fxck not yet... no it's not challenge but we always do challenge because it's easier... sigh." I learned to never try to help a group where more than two people don't know the raid. Two is the limit.
