Begin the music on the 7th paragraph, excluding dialogue.
Bring My Daughter Home... | Kent's Main Operating Base | Part III Today he would see her. After six years, Kent would finally see his daughter. When on Earth, he had met a woman he wanted to be with for the rest of his life, even if he barely got to see her. She meant everything to him - she still does mean everything to him. She is home - his home. The helipad is filled with soldiers, lined up on either side of the walkway, their guns resting on their shoulders, pointing towards the sky. The sky is clear, and the wind light, lazily blowing snow off of the hangers edge. There had been a slight snow squall earlier in the day, though by now it had turned to dust. Kent stands at the end of the walkway, staring at the helipad. He is wearing a black suit, with a white button-down shirt and a red tie. If he were to see his daughter today, he wanted to look as pleasing as possible. He runs his fingers through his hair - he's nervous. He isn't sure what his daughter looks like by now, having not seen her ever since she was a newborn. He felt guilty for the most part, leaving her at such a terrible time, just when she needed him most. There were things I had to do, things that depended on me… it still didn't sound right to him. Some time had passed, but finally, the helicopter had arrived. The reverberation from the engine causing Kent's body to vibrate. The force of the propellers pushes the snow away in a circular motion, sending it into the air. Kent starts to walk forward as the helicopter doors open. His heart is beating a mile a minute, he can not contain his anxiousness. Two soldiers hop out of the helicopter, then, turning around, they assist someone out - his daughter. As she drops down onto the floor, she looks up with a smile. That smile… Kent thought to himself, grinning. Her jet-black hair is tied into a bun, with two strands of hair coming down past the front of her ears. She is beautiful… Kent thought to himself, her bright blue eyes looking into his. Her face seems so perfect to him. She looks so much like her mother... Kent wraps his arms around her, hugging her as tight as he can - she's here now. Kent releases a sigh of relief as she wraps her arms around the back of his neck, squeezing tightly. “Hi dad.” She said, tears filling her eyes. “Hey sweetie, I've missed you.” He says, choking on the words. "I missed you to-" She's cut off. A crack echoes from the distance, sending a jolt of fear into Kent's body. His daughter yelps, collapsing to the ground, holding the left side of her waist. Kent sits there in shock, unknowing of what to do. He feels anger, despair, sadness all at once. Why now? Why her… Kent grabs his daughter as the soldiers begin to fire at the location of the sniper. The bullets ring through his ears, the shouting of Kent's men seem so distant to him, faded and broken. It's cold. The only warmth available to him was her blood. She lay there, crying in his arms at the pain, wishing for it to stop. There was nothing she could do - nothing they could do. Her blue eyes glistened as tears rolled down her cheek, it was almost time. He had been holding her in his arms, cradling her, whispering to her. “It's okay baby girl… it's okay. Shh, shh. Everything is going to be okay…” He too, was crying. Her breathe becomes raspy, each inhale becoming more faint after every exhale. Her bloodshot eyes seem to peer through his, appearing emotionless - like glass. Her grip slowly fades as her head slumps down over his forearm. Her final breath leaves her cold, pale lips. The hand she used to cover her wound had finally fallen off, revealing her blood drenched clothes. She was only six. “Baby please… don't go, baby… no, please… please baby girl…” He pulled her closer, cradling her against his own chest. He was crying even more now. He holds up the back of her head, his tears slowly sliding down his cheek and onto her pale forehead. Her hair smelling like raspberry-vanilla - her favorite. He clung to her, begging, praying for his pride and joy - his baby - to return back to him. He needed her. This world is too cruel alone - he can't do this alone. He tries to stand as his knees tremble and shake. He feels weak, helpless, struggling to lift his own daughters body from the floor. She couldn't hold onto the back of his neck like she had before. This was much more difficult. He tries to take a few steps forward, just to collapse on the floor once again, sobbing as he cradles his now deceased daughter. He never wanted this to happen. It was over.
Closed. Open to feedback.
