Compared to the soldiers he had come across earlier, this was not one of them. The sound was all wrong, which could only mean one thing. Riley? He called down the staircase, hoping that his gamble would pay off.

  • "Jackson!" She yelled upwards, sprinting the last few steps up and rounding the last set, coming face to face with him. She..was not a pretty sight. She was bleeding from a half dozen, half clotted cuts on her body, she was littered with bruises, her hair was matted with dried blood, one of her eyes was swollen shut, and a sword in her right hand was bound to her Palm by a piece of fabric that held two broken fingers against the hilt. She was nothing if not stubborn.

  • Christ... Was all he could say. It was painful for him to see her that way, and it made him furious. We need to get out of here. You need treatment and neither of us need caught by reinforcements. How badly are you injured? He asked, expecting her to lie. She never was one to admit the pain, and neither was he.

  • "I killed someone with a chair leg on the way up here. I'm good." She said with a grin, but it was more of a grimace due to the swelling. "How far are we from the flight deck?"

  • Dodging the question, typical behavior. It relieved him that she was still in good spirits. Quite a ways. I don't know how many more of these guys are here, but even on a skeleton crew I expect more. If we can get to the top, I'll get Wilson to exfil us. Are you ok to fight? He asked.

  • "As long as they try and kill me." She said with a grin, already heading past Jackson up the stairs. It was true. She was beaten, bruised, tired, and weary, but if someone wanted to kill her, it was like a bucket of cold water in the face. Already though, several sets of boots could be heard coming down. "Shit." Riley muttered, backing down a few steps and raising the pistol upwards.

He unsheathed his sword with his left hand, keeping his rifle up and ready for those coming down with his right. Can you use that gun hand with a blade? He asked. I'd rather you didn't hurt yourself anymore. He knew she wasn't trained very well to handle weapons like the Desert Eagle, and that if she shot it, she'd probably hurt herself and miss.

"I'll be okay." She said with a grin. She was nowhere better than in a fight, this was her element. Leveling the pistol upwards as the first man came down the stairwell, she pulled the trigger and grunted as the pistol jerked heavily, but the man collapsed with a blossoming red stain on his shirt, two more replacing him and leveling rifles at the pair.

  • The second two took a burst to the chest each from his rifle, and despite only holding the weapon with one hand, he was surprisingly accurate. Sliding the sword back into its sheath, he took point. Stay behind me. Their bullets won't get through my armor, but they'll certainly get through you. He doubted that she'd listen, but he didn't want her to take any more bullets.

  • "Fair enough." She actually agreed, surprisingly, but that was just because she didn't want to get shot. Again. They made their way up the stairs, surprisingly without resistance..what was up? Soon enough, they reached the door to the flight deck.

  • Wolfe poked his head up looking around quickly, observing the still-burning fires and the demolished flight deck. This was beyond unusual. Why the hell is there nobody on this ship? He whispered to Riley.

"I don't know.." She said quietly, easing her way out of the door and onto the deck. The mess Jackson had made was quite impressive, dead bodies sprawled everywhere. Ones with bullet holes in them, and ones in pieces. No sooner had they got ten feet onto the deck, when a massive spotlight lit them up like the night sky. "Well, you two are quite the couple aren't you?" A voice spoke up, coming from across them in the darkness. It was almost playful, like she was incapable of taking anything seriously, in a sinister sort of way. The figure stepped forward into the fringe of the spotlight, making her presence known. The woman was beautiful, pale skin under an immaculate pinstripe suit, with long Raven colored hair falling down her shoulders. She wore a sword at her hip, a katana in a blue sheathe that dazzled in the low light; like a million sapphires. As a matter of fact, she was immaculate in every way. Her shoes, hair, clothes, skin, like her life was based on perfection. "Bitch." Riley snarled. This woman was the one who'd overseen her torture.

  • He raised his rifle to her, leveling it at his shoulder, and emptying the magazine at her. He had a pretty good idea of who this person was, but regardless, he saw her as another one of the soldiers he'd executed. Fancy names and titles meant little to him, and Riley's exclamation had keyed him in pretty well that this figure had likely been the one trying to butcher her.

  • She leveled her hand at the pair, and stopped the bullets mid-air.. the projectiles dropping out of the air with a clank on the deck. Riley tensed at the display of her powers. Metal-kinetics weren't uncommon, but no one wielded it with precision like that. It was easy to bring down a building, but plucking bullets out of the air when they were twenty feet from you..only one man could have done that. And Riley had put a piece of shrapnel through his throat. "Now, that's rude Jackson. I haven't even gotten to make my villain speech and explain my motives before slaughtering you." She said with a pout. "You tried to kill me. That's enough for me." Riley snarled, and the woman clicked her tongue. "No, I held you captive. There's a difference Riley, dear. Let me introduce myself; I'm Selene, head and founder of Unity." She said, waving a hand encompassing the carrier.

  • Wolfe let his rifle fall on its sling, not bothering to reload. He didn't need to know who she was. If she was the one who had ordered Riley to be tortured, that was enough for him. He remained silent, but waited, to see just what she would do.

  • "I am going to gut you." She said, with a sinister smile that didn't reach her eyes. Selene giggled like a school girl, shaking her head. "Do you know how many of your kind said the same thing? Until I had them laid open on an operating table." Riley hesitated. "My kind?" "People with Powers, of course."

  • Just what the world needs, another Doctor Mengele... Wolfe said, although it was more of a low growl. He'd had a very low tolerance for anyone who messed with the people he loved, and to think that this individual was planning on cutting Riley up as some sort of sick science experiment, he was beyond disgusted. Some people were not human.

  • "What the world needs, is people who wield those powers right, and not use them to kill for money." She said sourly, looking at Riley. Seemed like Selene was jealous in a way. "You people have no clue what you've been gifted, the power of Gods, and you use it for personal gain. You're pathetic."

  • Who's to define right and wrong? Certainly butchering and maiming people isn't right... He replied, and much to Riley's surprise, he sounded almost identical to his father. Cold, emotionless, and almost... instigating. Some of the worst things imaginable were done with the best of intentions, for the "good of the people" and the "right reasons."

  • "I don't care for debates on morality. I care that these powers are wielded by people who can use them, not people like her." She spat. Riley tensed. A nearly imperceptible movement of Selene's eyes and a flick of her hand alerted Riley...who was trained in imperceptible. She sprung into action, raising her desert eagle in a diagonal arc, the clang of metal resounding as a throwing knife impacted with the gun. A knife that was heading for her chest. A man materialized beside Selene, little more than a boy really, no older than 18. He was shirtless, oddly enough, and wore jeans. Bandoliers of throwing knives criss crossed his chest in an x formation. Messy dark hair fell over his face, and he wore glasses. His body was lithe and made of sinew, more like corded strength than bulky muscle. "Oh. You're impressive hon. You'll be a worthy match." The man remarked, a smile crossing his face. "I'm Trevellian." So he had invisibility.. "Selene, what the hell are you playing at?" Riley asked, and Selene merely laughed. "Well, im doing exactly what I said; giving people powers who would wield them correctly." Riley froze. Lodestone.. "Yes dear, these were Lodestone's Powers. You really shouldn't leave bodies lying around..you never know who could make use of them." As she said it, electricity danced across her skin in little sparks. Conduit.. "A shame you disintegrated Steelheart. He would've been the real prize." Riley was suddenly glad she had. This woman would've been near invincible if she hadn't. It all came together in that moment, why Unity was kidnapping people with powers. She was taking their powers and giving them to people.

  • Wolfe watched both the boy and the woman. There was nothing more to say. His mind was made up, and he would kill them. There was no if anymore, only guarantee. He drew his blade, unclipping his rifle and letting it fall to the ground. The edge glowed a vibrant blue, tytritium.

  • "Trevellian, deal with our blue headed friend here. I want her alive. That power of hers is quite valuable." She said with a sinister grin, motioning towards Jackson. "I'll handle her boyfriend." With that, her hand pulses blue with electricity which she promptly threw at Jackson, taking the form of a thunderbolt that arced at Jackson. Meanwhile, Trevellian vanished into thin air..

  • He slammed the blade into the deck as she threw the lightning, dropping to the ground. Basic science may have actually proven practical, as the taller metal blade attracted the bolt, grounding it as he stood up, retrieving it momentarily afterwards. He had to close the distance and he had to do it fast. Drawing his right revolver, he fired three shots prior to teleporting and cloaking.

  • A ways to Jackson's right, Riley was fighting..well..the air. That's how it looked anyway, but the clash of metal rang out each time she lifted her sword, causing her to flinch because of her broken fingers. How she was fighting something she couldn't see, was remarkable. Her reflexes had to be unparalleled for it. That, and her hearing.

  • Closing the gap, Wolfe uncloaked and lunged for the woman, intending to impale her through the back with his blade. He had already sheathed his revolver, seeing as at this point it was not necessary. He had been watching Riley from the corner of his eyes, she was quite skilled in combat, particularly to be able to fight a cloaked enemy without enhanced sensors. It took years of training and practice to be able to sense the movements and behaviors of an unseen opponent.

  • As Jackson stabbed the Blade towards Selene's back, it was stopped abruptly an inch from her back, and swung up into the air, away from her back. Without even turning her back, the revolver in it's holster levitated from Jackson's person, coming face to face with his mask and unloading all the rounds in the cylinder in the blink of an eye. "You are good, I suppose I should try now." Trevellian's formless voice said. With that, Riley felt a cut open on her face from a knife that was thrown. She could only dodge fast enough to avoid it impaling her face. The same thing went again, her thigh taking a graze. "Fast, truly, but what will you do when I throw two, three knives at once? What if I turn the air into a storm of flying steel?"
