Cute doesn't stop bullets. He said, a hint of smile on the corner of his lips. But it's a little hard to blend in with civvies in an exo.

  • Jackson holstered his revolver in his shoulder holster, pulling his jacket back over it. Keeping the blade out, however, he approached the man on the ground. Grabbing the thug by the throat, he put the bloody knife to his jugular, pressing the edge to his skin. Next time, don't try to jump people. Doesn't work well. He slammed the pommel into the man's temple, knocking him out cold.

  • That was when the crack of a rifle sounded out, and judging from how loud it was, it was close. Too close for someone even as fast as Riley to dodge. The bullet struck her in the back, pitching her face forward onto the ground, dropping like a bag of cement.
For the purpose of this plot; Jackson's gonna have to get outnumbered and knocked out cold lmao
That was when four more men sprung up from seemingly nowhere, leaping down from the alley rooftops and rushing Jackson. They all carried what looked like staffs that sparked with electricity on the ends. Something told him if he got hit by one of those..he'd be asleep before he hit the ground. The first rushed, thrusting the point of it at Jackson's gut, while the other three leapt from different directions on his flanks and back, jabbing the massive cattle prods at him.

  •
Oh I'll go down, but not without a fight.
As the first rushed him, threw his knife at the one beside him, and grabbed the prod behind the electric head, twisting it loose from the man's hand. Sweeping the man's legs out from under him, he ducked below those who were attempting to corner him. He flipped one to the ground using the pole of the prod, a second he hit with the electric end, the third he cracked hard in the dead leg. Backing away from them, he had a moment to recover, picking up his knife and checking his flanks.

  • Each time he attempted to hit one of them, his weapons and attack bounced off something hard.. like he was hitting stone. His attackers weren't even flinching. The one he took down and jabbed with the prod did convulse though, and stayed down. The other three regained their composure and pressured him, two of them attacking simultaneously swinging their prods, while the third pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at Jackson's thigh.

  • He moved himself enough to dodge the handgun rounds, but the overwhelming group was going to be nearly impossible to hold off. Taking another down with the prod, he rolled but was not quickly enough to dodge one of their jabs, taking the blow to his ribs, the prod glancing off but still sending him to the ground. The voltage of a cattle prod was too much for even most soldiers.

  • The man wasted no time, jabbing Jackson again and again with the prod, sending nearly 50,000 volts of electricity coursing through his body repeatedly, meanwhile, Riley lay face down on the ground still. And that's when their attackers put the icing on the cake. The crack of a rifle sounded out once more, that sniper making his presence known as he sent a round flying through the alley and slamming into Jackson thigh, tearing flesh and sinew as the .338 round ripped through his leg.

  • He hit the ground, out from the voltage.

  • Leaving their dead partners in the alley, the one who'd knocked Jackson unconscious pulled a small business card from his breast pocket; a white card with a black circle, three slashes in the middle of it. He placed it next to Jackson, nodding to the sniper on the rooftop and walking over to Riley, throwing her over his shoulder and leaving with the still living partners. ~~~ Twenty Minutes Later. A door was opened in the alley way, and a scream of terror rang out from a familiar redhead. "Jackson!" Audrey screamed, rushing over to his fallen form quickly. Well, as quickly as possible in heels.

  • A pool of blood surrounded his lower body, and he was pale in the face. Eyes closed, his face showed no pain, surprisingly. His left leg showed a fairly ugly wound, but luckily it had missed the femoral. Had it struck that, he'd most certainly have been dead. As Audrey called, he said nothing, unresponsive. Things were not looking good.

  • "Dammit." She uttered, getting down on her knees beside him and placing her hand on the bleeding part of his thigh. A sudden warmth overtook his leg, as the flesh and sinew began to knit itself back together rather painlessly. She definitely was a healer..

  • Despite the wound being healed, Jackson had lost a lot of blood; and was still unconscious. Surrounded by corpses, it was clear that he had put up a solid fight, but he had been backed into a corner by more-appropriately equipped individuals.

  • "Jackson, come on, wake up Jackson." Audrey urged. Her healing prowess would assure he wouldn't die, that was for certain. But she needed to know who'd shot him, and why there was a puddle of blood and no body. And.. Where was Riley?

  • He woke slowly, and upon seeing a blurry individual over him, he lunged at her with his knife, stopping once he noticed that she was the girl Riley had introduced him to. He was breathing heavily, and there was a look of cold determination in his eyes. He stood, looking to the alley around him, looking for Riley. Sh*t... he growled. He looked around where Riley should have been, noticing only the card on the ground. He approached it, picking it up and rolling it in his fingers, observing it. Turning to Audrey, he spoke, voice cold. Who are these people?

They took her. He replied. The implication was pretty clear. Do you recognize this? He said, flashing the card to her and pulling his phone out.

  • "No." She shakes her head, tears gathering at her eyes. "I don't even know who would want to do such a thing. Everyone loves Riley for what she's done for the city.."

  • Obviously not. He said, a cold edge to his voice. Putting to phone to his ear, he made a call, directly to none other than the Ronin himself.

  • "To what do I owe the pleasure Jackson?" Lance's voice answered on the other line right after the first ring. He was nothing if not reliable. Audrey stood by curiously, watching Jackson.

  • Need a favor. Tell Wilson to send me my gear. Don't ask questions, don't worry about anything he asks. Make sure he sends it to me. With that, he hung up, and opened up a secured connection to Lance, and sent a text with his coordinates.

  • "What the Hell's happening in Angel City, Jackson?" Lance replied in the secured connection, while he simultaneously sent the coordinates to Wilson with Jackson's instructions.

  • His text was short and to the point. Necessary evil. Wilson received the coordinates, and seemed confused, but being half-drunk at the time, he loaded up Jackson's gear, making sure that his weapons were loaded and all in place before he sent the armor. As drunk as he was, he still knew how to fight and how to maintain proper attention to what mattered. If Jackson was in trouble, he'd follow through and protect his friend.

  • "You're too much like your dad for your own good." Lance replied, before cutting the connection between the two. Whatever it was, Jackson and Wilson could handle it. And God have mercy on whatever was being handled.

Back in Angel City, Jackson waited around for a moment, sliding his phone back into his pocket and turning it off. Looking back over to Audrey, he looked to the streets beyond as behind him, his armor appeared, all of his weaponry in place and ready to go, aside from his knife and the revolver on his person. Taking the gun and the knife, he placed them in their proper places on the armor, and he walked around to the back of it, sliding his Barrett off. He pulled the bolt back to chamber a round, and set the rifle down on the ground. Walking back around to the front of it, he logged in to his wrist-mounted tactical computer and opened the armor. Returning to the rear of it, he climbed inside as the suit sealed itself around him. His HUD came on momentarily, and the eyes of the helmet lit up, an eerie blue. Turning around, he picked up the rifle, and slid it back onto his back, pulling his cowl up over his head as well. You're positive she had no enemies? No leftovers from her little Spring Cleaning spree? He asked Audrey, his voice made metallic through the mask that covered his face.

  • Audrey shivered at the sight of Jackson. Moments before, he was a shy, cute guy. Now..he looked like a killer. "I don't think so. I haven't known her for long..but she hasn't said anything about anyone." She looks at the ground for a moment before looking back up. "There are some people in the city that might know what that card means. Some really shady types who deal in information, they hang around towards the ocean front..boardwalk and the like."

  • You're going to take me there. He said, and clearly, it was not up for debate. I'm not losing anyone else. Wolfe's last sentence came out with steeled determination.
