The smirk sent a shiver down her spine, and she quickly averted her gaze. These people worried her. Despite Wolfe sparing her, she was fearful. Who else knew what she did, and who else wanted her dead? ~~~~ Well, not really much of anything, but you can't get better at anything if you don't practice. He said, uncloaking and reappearing behind her. Now unless you want me shooting actual people, the mannequins tend to be the best. He said, a hint of his sly sarcasm in his voice.

  •
He knows, because he's the one who shot you unconscious. Weren't you wondering how that happened?
A voice spoke up in her head, but no one had said anything. The voice sounded tired and lazy, like it could be doing better things. That same man still stared at her, that same unnerving gaze. ~~~ Riley burst out laughing, lasting for a good few moments before stopping and looking back up at Jackson, a wide smile plastered on her face. "I'm sorry, I just pictured you walking into like a Macy's and taking their mannequins." She says with another chuckle. Yep..she was an odd one.

  • Who... who are you? She asked, fear in her voice. Too many people here could talk to her in her own mind. That unnerved her immensely. ~~~ Wolfe smirked under his helmet. No, actually, I have Wilson steal them for me. He ejected the magazine from his rifle, and slid the two remaining rounds into his shoulder sidesaddle. The magazine he placed in a bandolier pouch, from which he withdrew a fresh one, loading it into the rifle.

  •
Easy. People may think you're talking to yourself. And I'm more of a "What" than a "who," but the man in the black jacket and the obnoxiously large rifle is the one you'd wanna talk to. I promise he's compensating for something, but don't tell him I said that.
~~~~ "That's an even better picture."  She says with a laugh, eyeing the sniper rifle and the bullets paired with it. With that..an insane idea came to her mind. "Can I shoot it?"  She asked, obviously serious, but knowing what kind of question she was asking and what kind of trust that meant. It was his Dad's rifle.
  • She wasn't quite sure if she wanted to talk to this individual... she was fairly unnerved as it was, and considering he'd already shot at her once, she wasn't into pressing her luck for a lethal round. And so, she remained silent in her seat, accepting her coffee with an utterance of thanks once the waiter brought it. ~~~~ He looked up at her for a moment... confused, to say the least. She wasn't one for guns, so why the sudden change? You sure you can handle this? Unlike a sword, it has recoil. He said, a mixture of his colder exterior and genuine concern. The gun was capable of taking a shoulder's shoulder out of socket if held incorrectly.
  •
Well, too bad.
With that, the man stood up from his table and, with his rifle in hand, made his way over to the booth. Sliding in and placing the rifle on the edge of the table, he leaned backwards into the seat and eyed her curiously. "Despite how I look, I actually do care about people's well being."
No you don't.
"Shut up." "How are you feeling?"  This was the guy who'd supposedly shot her? ~~~  Riley shrugs with a smile. "I know, I was hoping you would at least show me. As long as you don't try the cheesy shit where you wrap your arms around me and take my hands and show me what to hold."  She says, a smirk playing at her lips.
  • Ok? Now she was really confused. She'd been shot by this man, and now suddenly he was concerned? She was having issues fathoming it. ~~~~ No, I intend to let you learn on your own. He shifted his grip to the rifle's carrying handle, and pulled the bipod legs down. Setting the rifle down in the grass, he unscrewed the monopod in the stock so that the weapon would be braced and stable for her to shoot.  There ya go. You ask, I answer. He said.
  •  He shrugs and gestures to the innkeeper, who brings him a drink. A glass of orange juice, it looked like. Even though it had a strong alcoholic scent. "That's good. I would've hated to accidentally kill you."  He says, sipping from the glass. ~~ "Uhh.."  She says, glancing sideways at Jackson. "I know how to fire a handgun, barely. And you expect me to even know where to start? I'm flattered."  She mutters.
  • Sure.... She said, clearly a bit insulted by that statement. She knew that he wanted to kill her. She could feel it. Taking a sip of her coffee, she shot him a gaze like that of a cat.  ~~~~ Well, for starters, you might want to chamber a round. On the right side, you'll see the ejector port, it'll be covered by a silver piece with a little grip on it. Pull it back towards you. You'll hear it click and a round should slide up into the chamber. He said, deadpan. What he was waiting for was her reaction to actually firing the gun.
  •  The man rolls his eyes. "You can stop looking at me like that, I'm not going to kill you. If I'd wanted to do that, I would have instead of knocking you unconscious. Instead, maybe you can enjoy a breakfast and not sit there paranoid." ~~ "Ok.."  She says, hooking her finger over the small piece of metal and pulls it back, hearing the round slide into the chamber where she pushes it back forward.
  • Hard to not be skeptical when the man who shot at you is speaking to you over coffee. She said dryly, setting the cup down. ~~~~~ Alright, now there's a little switch on the side just above the trigger grouping on the frame, flip that forwards so that it's on red. From there, you just aim and shoot. I assume you know how a scope works, not that it really matters because you are close enough for the serious calculations to be mitigated. He said. And before you fire, make sure that your shoulder is braced firmly against the stock. Otherwise, it'll hurt like hell. Also, if you want to keep your eye, don't press it to the scope. Stay back a little bit.
  • "Well, you're drinking coffee."  He says with a smirk, sipping at the orange juice.  "I mean, I'm attempting to be friendly, which is more than can be said for your big friend in the power armor." ~~ Riley nods, bracing her shoulder against the stock and flipping the switch, keeping her face back from the scope a bit. She did know how to work a scope, that bit was obvious. After letting out a breath, she pulled the trigger.
  • She looked away when he made the remark about Wilson. She wasn't quite ok after everything that he had put her through, and she most certainly didn't want to have anything else to do with him. Silence fell over the table again.  ~~~~ The rifle kicked hard against her shoulder, a powerful blow that felt like a solid kick. The shot kicked up dust from the ground, and the crack was loud, but not deafening, due to the open clearing. The sound echoed off of the trees, and the round connected with the dirt mound, kicking up a burst of dirt where it impacted. The casing ejected, shooting out of the ejector and landing in the grass next to her as a new round slid into the chamber.
  •  Desmond chuckled. It was obviously funny in some way, when in reality it definitely shouldn't have been.  "Yeah, thought so. If it makes you feel any better, I'm a lot nicer than him."  He left out the part that he was the reason Wilson had gotten his hands on her. ~~~  Riley winces, standing up and picking up the shell casing, turning it over in her hand before pocketing it for whatever reason. She drew her sword from her waist, the mottled red and black blade eerie, as she started to walk towards the hill of dirt. "What's the difference between yours and Desmond Galloway's rifle?"  She asks nonchalantly.
  • She still said nothing in reply, not even bothering to look up at him. ~~~~ Well, that depends. He said, picking up the rifle and safetying it. Sliding it back in place on his back and folding the bipod and monopod in, he followed her. Do you want the long answer or the short one?
  • "Well, if you ever need someone in case Wilson decides to come after you, you know where to find me. After you get over your PTSD."  Desmond knew what Wilson could do, but he was also confident in his abilities. He pulled a twenty dollar bill out of his pocket and set it on the table, grabbing his rifle and exiting the booth.  ~~  She didn't seem to do much except walk, twirling the blade in a fanciful fashion as she did. "No one learned anything about an opponent by reading the SparkNotes."
  • He will not come after me. Wolfe will make sure of it. The Courier respects his opinions even when they differ from his own. She said, quietly. She knew that Wilson was terrifying, but even he had a leash. ~~~~ Well, for starters, I use a bigger bullet. .50 BMG's a nasty round, got more mass than a .408. Not as fast, but equally as powerful. He can hit with more speed at better range, but he cannot hit a follow-up near as quickly. My rifle's semi-automatic, his isn't. I've also got a bigger magazine than he does, but in turn, I've got a heavier gun with more recoil, and I can't break it down as easily as he can. However, I've also got more types of ammunition, they don't make a lot of specialty stuff for .408s, it's too expensive and not enough people use them. He replied.
  • "I'm sure he will."  He says plainly, before slinging the rifle over his back and heading for the door.
You're a jackass.
"And she killed dozens of people."  ~~~ "So he favors speed over power?"  She questions, resting the blade on her shoulder. "If the .408 travels faster but hits equally as hard, why not use a .408?" "And when you say his isn't semi-automatic, you mean that he has to manually pull the bolt back every time he shoots?"
  • She remained, saying nothing more as he went to leave. He gave her the creeps. ~~~~ .408's more expensive, and again, they don't make any specialty rounds. No HEAP, no API, no Raufoss, no tungsten-core, nothing like that. Just plain old high-grain, high-velocity. And yes, his rifle requires you to pull the bolt back after every shot. Mine doesn't. I can empty a magazine into a target in less than 30 seconds if I really want to. My rifle's also more suited to combating heavily armored targets, the extra mass helps in penetrating vehicles and exosuits. He replied.
  • (End.) ~~~ She nods in thought. Some of those specialty rounds didn't have to be made for his rifle, because he had a Ka'kari. "Some of those specialty rounds, what do they do? I'm guessing a couple have a higher piercing velocity at least."
  • HEAP is High-Explosive, Armor-Penetrating. There's a solid cap that punches through, and then the charge in the top of the bullet goes off. API is Armor-Piercing Incendiary, where there's an incendiary charge with a penetrator dart under it. Tungsten-core's self-explanatory. Ball rounds are the regulars. But if you're really looking to cause serious destruction, the green-tips are the best. He slid a round from his bandolier, one that looked similar to the ones on his shoulder, except that the bullet itself was not as sharp. The tip was more rounded, and green.  That's a Rauffoss Mk. 211. Marines use them for the Barrett and the Ma Deuce. That single round has a tungsten dart, an incendiary compound, and an explosive compound all together. It's used as an anti-armor round, and as far as damage and kinetic impact are concerned, it hits like a 20mm. He said.
  • "That's mildly terrifying."  She says, shivering without notice. She knew the kind of damage a blade could do, but guns were underused in her world. Only the rich could get them, and that equated to small assault rifles or automatics and handguns. Not something that could take out a tank. "Ya know, my birthday is coming up. You should totally get me a gun."  She says with a wink out the corner of her eye. What Jackson didn't know was that wasn't her actual birthday, but the day Kyr had found her. It might as well have been the day she'd been born, considering that was the day that had birthed what, and who she was.
    He noticed the shiver, a typical reaction from those who did not know guns. The Barrett and its munitions were some of the most powerful and reliable when it came to small arms, but they were not cheap, and most mercenaries did not have access to them. Wolfe figured that Riley probably had not seen serious military hardware before, aside from what Lance and Desmond had.  Birthday, hm? Well, I need a little more than just "I want a gun." I don't think you'd like it very much if I got you an old Marlin .22 rifle. There was a hint of humor in the last statement.
