He doesn't. He'd rather be out in the night, skulking around like he normally does. But you..he thinks there's something about you that's different. Something that makes him want to protect you, not just because you saved his life.
The Ka'kari pauses.
Do you know the price of my immortality, Chloephina? Of course you don't, that's a rhetorical question..every time Desmond dies and is brought back, somebody he loves dies in his place.
• He really owes me nothing... He's free to leave... I can't wrap my head around why he would stay. If anything, I'd be a shackle to his nature. Chloe bit her lower lip in thought, green lines tracing along her hands as they pushed into the grass, making the stalks turn large and green... Growth, healing, the bodies redemption at her finger tips. He must know that I don't offer much.

  •
On the contrary Chloe, you have plenty to offer him. A friend. Desmond died three times before he found out the price of immortality. Three times he threw his life away because he thought he could just come back, but in reality he'd killed three of his best friends. His heart has been ripped to shreds, he had to kill his own master, the only father figure he'd ever known. He's not all hard edges and unbreakable walls Chloephina. He does care, in his own strange little ways.
• Well... Best to make sure to be worthy of such companionship... I appreciate you telling me this. She rested her chin on her tucked knees, her eyes closing as she breathed in the cool air. It was nice out, and she enjoyed talks... Even if they were just in her head. It was certainly a lot to take in... But she would handle it one minute at a time, calmly as ever.

  •
Only because he never would. He's built a wall around himself and refuses to let anyone close, for fear of losing them. If you have any questions, just ask. I'm always around.
The Ka'kari chuckles before Chloe feels it's presence leave her mind. Desmond glanced over towards her, eyes narrowing. "You okay?" He questions. His cold and hard exterior seemed a lot less cold and hard now after what Chloe knew. His dark and brooding eyes still seemed as dark as ever, but there was a around that..probably.

  • Her orange glance met his cold stare, fire to ice... Yin and yang. "Yeah... Just enjoying the peace of the night." She figured Desmond didn't need the truth... Not always. She didn't like to keep things from him... Mostly... But that voice seemed secretive anyways... "The quiet allows for thinking."

  • "Thinkings a dangerous thing." He says blankly, staring out down over the hills. The Stars twinkled in his dark eyes, an interesting sight.

  • "Is it now... What do you think I'm thinking about right now...?" She asked with a mischievous smile, her eyes drifting up towards the far desert and then the most south eastern snow areas... The stars... She used to see them too much... But not anymore... She preferred actual scenery, tired of the darkness and twinkling little orbs.

  • He raised an eyebrow at her expression, a smile almost making its way across his face. "Probably about scenery. You seem to like sights a lot.." He trails off, leaning back in the grass and placing his hands behind his head.

  • "Well... The scenery is in fact very nice... But I was thinking about how lucky I am... Lucky to be here, free, and friends with a 'gun-toting badass'." She gives a contented sigh and closes her eyes once more, orange lines dancing across her cheeks before slipping down her neck and disappearing under the sweater...

  • "A gun toting badass.." Desmond says, that smile finally crossing his face as he turns his head, looking at Chloe. "You flatter me."

  • "Do I? Then perhaps something more humble... Metal Entrepreneur?" She opened one eye to gaze at him, an amused shimmer in the bright pool of orange. Something in her very stare gave off... Warmth... Not just any warmth, a comforting warmth... Like a close bond. It wasn't a natural feeling, and no doubt something an average human could not give off... But... It was there all the same. "Or maybe just Desmond. Such a name is fitting. It's mysterious and intimidating."

  • "Metal Entrepreneur is one of the better things I've been called." He says with a chuckle, catching her looking at him. That look she gave..the way it made him feel, the warmth, it was almost unnerving. In a good way. "Chloephina..full of warmth and sweet on the lips." A smirk played at the corner of his mouth, whatever the hell he meant by that. It was almost like there was something there he knew that she didn't.

"What do you mean...? Like dessert?" She asked him incredulously, her eyebrows raising in curiosity. His words were... Mixed. His brooding sarcasm often left her wondering if he really meant half the things that he said. It didn't help she barely understood sarcasm to begin with. Trying to understand the enigma that was Desmond was like trying to understand why gravity exists... It wasn't easy once you got past the surface info.

  • "Yeah, dessert is sweet. I suppose that works." He says, another smile crossing his lips as he looked back at her. His eyes seemed almost softer somehow. He felt that way anyway. He enjoyed talking like this, even though he didn't show it. Chloe was great company. The last person he could talk to like this was Jarl and he'd seen how that turned out.

  • "You are a strange man, Desmond... Very strange indeed. If I hand around you for too long, I might become strange too." She joked, her shoulders lowering as she fell into a much more relaxed state... It was comfortable like this. She didn't want to lay back, but rather just be cradled by the night time air... It felt nice... Better than being cooked by the sun in any means. "Tell me... How is it that you ever get sleep? I understand that you take special medicine to stay awake... But don't you ever want to just lay down and dream...?"

  • "A little late for that Chloephina. With a name like that, you were strange since birth." He says with a smile, but it wasn't a cruel statement. "It's okay, strange is far better than normal. There are billions of normal people..but only one of you." He says, looking back to the Stars. "No..dreams aren't real. I don't see the point in indulging in something that can never be." He says quietly.

  • "That's a dark thought... I, for one, think dreams a fine thing... I like to dream of being able to lay out in the sun, grass surrounding me. Or I like to dream of the best ice cream... They may not always come true, but if I never set ridiculous goals, I'd never do ridiculous things." She outstretched her right arm, the green line running across it like some sort of power in a machine, before condensing at one fingertip and creating a small green light... And then, a small blue rose began to form on her finger, before she cradled it gently in the palm of her hand. "I bet you once had dreams... I bet they were wonderful and fanciful... But I suppose not everyone can enjoy such things."

  • "Some people aren't meant to. There are no poets in the bitter business." He says quietly, finger tips brushing the black and white rose tattoo on his collarbone. It was in the spot that he'd been stabbed after his fight with his former master, the wound Chloe had helped him recover from.

  • "Well, I won't let my whole life be bitter. Otherwise nothing else will be sweet..." She understood what Desmond meant, but she couldn't share the same emotions... She wished he was a happier soul, but she wouldn't force him to feel a certain way... Besides, she didn't know how long this partnership would last... And trying to learn the thoughts of other was something the oracles and adepts jobs, the old religious leaders of her home.

  • "You sound like an old friend of mine." He says with a smile, a glimmer of happiness breaking through the cold exterior. She in fact did remind him of someone, but that person was dead. "What makes you happy Chloe?" He asked, turning his head to look at her once again. She was an intriguing sight, pale skin with those magical lines trailing over her.

  • "Plenty of things... Most small and uninteresting. But freedom... Freedom the most." The small flower in her hand began to unfold as dozens of its blue petals began to float away. "Or at least the thought of freedom makes me happy."

  • "You don't think you're free?" He asks. Perhaps she had some kind of inner reasoning, but he'd figured after getting away from home, this was free. Hell, it was as free as he'd been in his life.

  • "Not entirely... There is still some guilt and shame... But that just comes with running away from responsibility..." She remarked simply, feeling such things that seemed normal, or at least should be normal. She thought about it, and thought she was happy, she wondered if her home really needed her... If she could have made a difference.

  • He nods, fingers laced behind his head and fiddling with his dark hair. "If that responsibility came with marrying someone you didn't love, then you did the right thing. That sounds like it's your Parent's problem, you didn't ask for it."

  • "Perhaps... But maybe I could have stopped the cycle... Fixed the politics. Leader of a free world. The distinction between the poor and rich is quite large, and it's unfair... But, it's a simple burden to carry..." She shrugged and slowly got to her feet, peeling away her good and the golden crest atop her forehead, unwinding her hair until the fire red colors drifted ever so slightly in small breezes... She almost looked... Normal...
