Do you know what punishments I've endured for my crimes, my sins? I am proof of the absurdity of men's most treasured abstractions. A just universe wouldn't tolerate my existence. Desmond let out a puff of smoke, flicking the ashes off the end of the nearly dead cigarette. It was fairly cold this late, but the armor he wore, like always, kept him warm in the frigid air. Currently, he sat atop a crest of a large hill towards the forest, overlooking the Dojo complex. The place was complicated as hell and he hated it. Life back home was simple. A contact, a deader, a paycheck, done. Life was as easy as bathing in the blood of those he killed, and that's all he had to worry about. No commitments, responsibility, pretenses, nothing. Now..now he had Chloe to look out for. She was a sweet girl, but oblivious to the atrocities of the real world. He didn't even know why she'd actually saved him..no, he did know. He just couldn't comprehend it. Where he came from, all that was wrought was death and destruction. There were no healers and heroes. Those were fairy tales. He swept his hair back in one hand, a strand snagging in the pitch black ring he wore on his left hand. A ring, the form the Ka'kari took when on him. That was yet another thing Chloe didn't know, the fact he was a Ka'karifer. Why would she? They were legends and myths, and non-existent in her world.
Do you ever plan on telling her? She did save your life, you could bring her into the loop and not be an asshole.
"You sound like Durzo." He replied to the smug, sentient being that was now a part of him, and had been for several years.
I spend seven centuries, day and night with the guy, and he rubs off on me a little bit. You spent a decade and look at how alike you are.
Desmond grimaced at the Ka'kari's words. He was right. He was just like Durzo. Durzo, who he'd been forced to kill. (Open.)

 • The Deity walked up the hill, this spot being a rather uncommon place for one to spend time at. He stood behind Desmond, facing his back. He crossed his arms as he looked down at the ponderer. "That shit will kill you, ya know that right?" The deity gestured to the ashy cigarette in the man's hand.

 • https://imgur.com/a/KGHgS https://imgur.com/a/PGwjE https://imgur.com/a/lG1FR Desmond's face stays blank, not bothering to turn around to see the new arrival. "So do bullets and poisoned knives. Tobacco is the last of my worries." He says, his voice quiet and having a sense of not caring. About most things. The majority of his body was covered in a sleek, matte black armor. The helmet wasn't there, yet nowhere to be seen. He was young, around mid-twenties with short, dark swept back hair and shaved on the sides. A large sniper rifle was attached to his back, along with a black bo staff of sorts and a Bowie knife on his leg. A number of pouches lined his chest and waist, and if someone could sense it, a magical aura emanated from him. Something powerful and dark. Not necessarily evil..but dangerous.

 • "Ha! Fair point, fair point. That being said..." The deity takes a few steps forward, his hair blowing in the cold wind. He stands beside the man. "What's with the ominous staring out into the distance?" The deity leans forward and squints his eyes. Pretending to look at the scenery.

 • "Because I feel like staring out into the distance." He replies. In truth, he was keeping watch on someone in the Dojo, but there was no reason someone else needed to know that. "And why are you up here? I think I'm secluded enough to be alone and still somehow fail."
You humans are a nosy bunch, don't blame the guy.
"Well! That's because everyone sees you!" He gestures to the small crowd of villagers looking up at the black armoured man from the village. "And I'm up here, wondering why you are up here, staring into the distance! Only someone with something on his mind does something very.... Dramatic, such as you to be isolated."

 • "Fùck off." He says, flicking ashes off the cigarette and throwing the rest into the grass. He realized he'd skylined himself against the moon, but that was in hopes someone wouldn't be nosy and bother him. Mission failed. He stared down at the villagers, finding it amusing how curious they were and how easily he could kill anyone of them.
You know you wouldn't.
I realize that. Makes for an entertaining thought though, he thought back.

 • "Whoo! So feisty! Maybe you should get off your sorry ass and tell me that." The deity began to lay it on thick. He had a bad habit of trying to find out what pissed people off. The man who sat in front of him was no different.

 • "You aren't worth the ammo." He said, looking down towards the Dojo and fingering the M45 on his hip with a slight smirk on his face. He wasn't cocky.. no. He knew he was that good.
You still sound like Durzo.
If the Deity could feel anything magical related, he'd notice the ring on Desmond's finger gave off a sort of energy. While the jewelry was only a metal band with a bright red stone, it definitely didn't feel natural.

 • "Oh man! Do you have to sharpen yourself to get this edgy or what?! Like seriously, this has to be some sort of achievement for sharpest edge! Good lord!" The deity couldn't even notice whatever the rather blunt man was carrying. But, he still wanted to grind his gears. Just to see how far he could push him. Or...how far he would go.

 • The man stays quiet and continues to look down upon the scenery. Whoever he was, he was a joke to Desmond. Anyone who ranted about edginess was a complete waste of space in his mind. Desmond didn't anger easily, or not at all rather. He had far better things to do.

 • "Most people are idiots." There's that hint of cockiness. Yet, it wasn't cockiness. He didn't think he was the best, he just thought everyone else was worse. There was a difference.

 • "Well...can't argue with that logic. Some people only know how to stare out into the distance, and don't know how to hold a conversation." The Deity was now simply joking with the man. Not trying to figure out his trigger, but rather how he ticked.

 • "And know how to kill a man thirty different ways with one poison." He says. It was clear that he knew exactly how to take care of himself, and wasn't easily intimidated or threatened.

 • "No." He showed no outward signs of it, in fact his face was completely and utterly blank, but the Deity was getting on his nerves. He hated people.

 • "Then, total utter bullshit." The deity stands up. Patting his hands together as he starts to walk away. "Adios." The deity walks down the hill, and back to the dojo.
Ya know, having a super anti-social character makes having open posts.... Not so open?
• The sound of bare feet slowly moving through the stalks of grass came to Desmond's attention. But it was no surprise that he'd have a follower this late. Chloe preferred the darkness... And she had an innate ability to follow him no matter where he went... Her tracking skills were abnormally good for someone so simple. She was dressed in her regular attire, however, she was wearing a large black sweater over her top tonight. It seemed she was still fond of her shawl like clothing. But... She had recently been using a massive stone like shield... One that dominated her back and clung like a magnet. Strangely enough however, she seemed to carry it with ease... The only one who could carry it with ease. Any one else noticed how heavy the item was... But Chloe said it was light as paper. It had strange bright lines running across the surface and a slight groove, matching that of the lines on her body. "Most people sleep at night... Unless you are taking pills... Or you are nocturnal... Shouldn't you be sleeping?" She asked, standing next to him, as the massive shield on her back gave off faint light.

 • "I've got better things to do than sleep." In truth, the Ka'kari allowed him to stay up as long as need be, to an extent. Everything had a limit, but this one was up there. "I could ask you the same question." He figured she'd been sleeping, the only reason he'd chosen the massive crest to take up residence for his nightly thoughts. He could see down into the complex, and with some fancy shooting and maneuvering his bullet, could kill anyone near her room need be. Sensors on the hallway told him people's comings and goings. Paranoid? He preferred overly cautious.

 • "I sleep during the day... The night is my free time." She have a slight smile and pulled the shield from her back, the large object shrinking to the size of a pocket watch, which she quickly stuffed in her sweater pocket... She eventually took a seat next to Desmond, her knees folding under her as her bright orange eyes scanned the activity below. "You must really enjoy... Watching things." She said simply, not really surprised to find Desmond monitoring something... Or anything.

 • "Vigilance pays. Keeps people alive." Mainly you, he thought to himself. But she didn't need to know that. The fact he was being paranoid to make sure she stayed safe was his thoughts and his alone.
Why do you care about her Desmond? She's nothing special.
You're right. She isn't. But she saved my life and I owe it to her.
Sure you do.
• "Do you enjoy being like this, Desmond?" Chloe turned to him with an odd look in her eyes, knowing full well that most couldn't find pleasure in this... Work. "I want an honest answer. Not because 'you have to' or because it's a living... But does it really make you happy...?"

 • Desmond didn't say anything for a moment. When he'd started out, it was because it was his only option. That, or die. After Durzo had died, he'd no longer taken contracts on those who were innocents. The Ka'kari helped with that, when brought to his eyes, he could see people's inner sins. The good in them, And the worst. Whether they were clean or stained with guilt. A sick part of him took pleasure in bringing justice to those who earned it. He was the face of Retribution, the black Ka'kari had given that to him. He was a killer..yes, but he no longer killed innocents for money after Durzo had died. "Yes. I am happy." He replies. Why he was happy, she didn't need to know. She didn't need to know why he did; or what he did.
You're more and more like Durzo than you know. She deserves to know.
No, she doesn't. He thought back. If Chloe could sense any kind of magical energy, she'd notice the ring on Desmond's finger did exactly that; emanate magical energy like a ticking time bomb. The Ka'kari was packed with magical energy, it just took the right person to sense it.
