Dojo Courtyard // 1200 // Zachary Chandler Standing in the middle of the courtyard as the clock struck twelve was Zachary Chandler, a dojo newbie. His jet-black hair was combed back neatly, his bright blue eyes scanning the courtyard analytically. His full lips were pursed, slight stubble on his square jaw. He was young, around twenty, decently muscular however built for a hundred yard dash. The man stood at five ten, with a slender build. He wore slim, blue jeans, and a simple, white t-shirt that was neither tight nor loose. Gripped tightly in Zach's right hand was a three foot long, inch and a half wide base, silver straight sword of New Magnesium; a metal as light as aluminum and as strong as titanium, which is indeed a real metal. His slender violinist hands wore a pair of worn, leather gloves, to protect his hands from callousing. Standing a few yards in front of Zach was another man, Ylon. He was out of his usual armor and without his usual greatsword, his artfully messy, scarlet hair matching his red t-shirt. His own eyes were a stunning orange, his cheekbones shallow with an angular face in contrast to Zach's more square one. Ylon stood four inches taller than his opponent at six two, his right hand wearing a steel, painted red gauntlet, which gripped a sword similar to Zach's in size, yet was made of titanium. His shoulders were broad, and the straight sword was rather small for him, as he was so used to his great sword, however he had switched swords for the sake of this duel. Ylon smiled at Zach, who smiled back only halfheartedly. Zach lifted his sword, and Ylon followed suit. All was silent in the courtyard, quiet enough to hear a pin drop. That was when a cold breeze blew through the courtyard, blowing a rock into the wall of the courtyard with a resounding crack. Both Zach and Ylon rushed forward, however Zach was faster; Ylon had only taken three steps before Zach was on top of him, picturing a quick, diagonal slash from top right to bottom left. Zach raised his sword to execute this, but Ylon was much more skilled in swordsmanship, and swiftly lifted his own sword up as Zach began to deliver his slash, his New Magnesium sword clashing with Ylon's titanium one. Ylon redirected Zach's sword to his own bottom left, the tip of Zach's sword striking the dirt. Ylon raised his sword, and brought his sword vertically downwards to Zach's back. Zach pushed himself forwards, his superior speed getting him out of the way of Ylon's heavy attacks. He spun, two feet to Ylon's left, gripping his sword tightly in two hands as he aimed a now horizontal slash towards Ylon's left arm. Ylon gracefully turned ninety degrees and blocked with his blade, a loud clanging of metal on metal resonating through the courtyard, Ylon's grip on his sword and his muscular arms remaining firm and steady. Zach swiftly brought his sword away from Ylon's, spinning the other way to deliver another horizontal slash, which was blocked, again, by Ylon. This time, Zach used the momentum of his previous swing to continue himself in a shoulder charge towards Ylon, ramming into him. Even thought Ylon was much larger, Zach's speed and quick acceleration was enough to make his opponent stumble back, off balance. Using this, Zach's face remained stony as he lifted his sword, pointing his blade towards the off-balance Ylon and with blinding speed, Zach's chin was above Ylon's right shoulder, the tip of his New Magnesium blade just touching Ylon's Adam's Apple. Ylon's eyes widened in shock, and wasn't sure if he hadn't recovered in time or if Zach was just that quick; regardless, he raised his hands, dropped his titanium blade, disbelief clear in his orange eyes—he was so sure that his skill as a swordsman was greater than Zach's. Zach pulled away from Ylon, sheathing his sword, and faking a perfect smile. "Well fought, sir," He said truthfully, his forehead beaded with sweat; he had been dueling for five years now, and was still getting used to the fast-paced, action packed thrill of a swordplay fight. Not looking for a conversation, Zach turned away from Ylon, his fake smile disappearing immediately as Ylon walked away, his head hung low in disappointment. ((Open for interaction or duel.))

  • Suddenly, a brisk crack of metal against metal caught Zach's attention, a chill falling over the air. His lowered head had kept the approaching figure out of his view, leaving him to the elements of surprise. It was the speedster of the Dojo... Damien Lordan, clad in his normal black armor, black and red cargo pants, and interface helmet. He had his rail sniper at his back, and folding swords at his hips. Beyond that... He wasn't wearing blatantly obvious gear. Probably for a reason. He was leaned back against a small carbon fiber create he had been carrying, a bright white insignia like the one on his chest painted to the side sloppily. "Having fun there?" He asked, the stupid grin almost resonating in his voice. He had watched it all... Of course he had been busy with the crate too, but he was a curious person. With a click, his helmet unfolded revealing his long spiky blonde hair and yellow eyes, complemented by his mechanical jaw. "Haven't seen you around before, but that could be because I'm stupid... Anyways, the name's Damien. Or Judge. Thought I'd come watch a sparring match while I transported a crate of metal fingers." Okay... He was a little bizarre, but it gave him a sort of sarcastic charm. Besides that, he looked like a well balanced fighter despite his attitude. Sure, he slouched and smirked like a hardass, but he had a sense of thrill and speed... Something most others couldn't give off.

  • Zach raised his head to look over at the armor-clad Damien, and looking him over once made Zach know that the other man was a fighter. So, he turned his body to face Damien, planting the tip of his three foot long straight sword into the dirt terrain of the dojo courtyard. He smiled falsely as he put his dusty, jolly and never-serious facade to use. "No, I'm new here," He said, taking no notice of his bizarre attitude, besides the 'metal fingers' comment, which Zach questioned inwardly. "Watch a sparring match, or spar?" He asked, wanting to make sure he heard correctly and wasn't making any mistakes; he liked things to be repeated, so he was sure that errors would not be made on his part. If to watch a duel was what Damien wished for, Zach looked around for any potential opponents aside from Damien.

  • "Watching... Unless you are really up to another fight." Damien shook his head and chuckled, not one to spar with a tired opponent. But Damien looked more than ready for any challenge. His weapons all screamed with violence and a lust for action... And his belt was layered with all sorts of pouches and devices... Many clearly not meant for recreational use. Beyond that, there was something hidden in his posture. And eagerness... A branded will for chaos and destruction. Damien was the insane entropy to the order around the Dojo, even if he didn't try to be... "But... I'm always up for a good challenge."

  • "I'm not sure how much of a challenge I may provide," Zach said, pulling his New Magnesium straight sword out once more. The fact that he didn't immediately dislike Damien was definitely better than some of the other people Zach had recently met; he wasn't easy to make friends, that was for sure. "But a duel's always welcome." The butterflies in his stomach that were always there just before a duel came back, as Zach constantly questioned himself and his capability; would he do well in this duel? Would he fail? Would he be severely injured? All this nervousness was there, however it did not show; rather, Zach made it so that it seemed the opposite—that he wasn't nervous, that he was confident that he would do well. He faked a confident smile, lowering himself into a position where he could break into a sprint. He was ready whenever Damien was, and indicated that with a slight nod.

  • "Eager mcbeaver. I like it kid... It's classy." Damien didn't really mean to be rude, he just assumed anyone younger than him was a 'kid'... More specifically... 25 and younger. Damien himself was 36, and still built like an ox... But that was to be expected. "Let's try to keep it PG." Damien simply wasn't out for blood. Well, cuts were sure to happen, but he wasn't going to wound Zachary deeply. He didn't care what he received in the process, but Damien knew the simple rule of engagement. Only aim to kill if they were an actual enemy... Damien reached up to his shoulders, pulling dual daggers from their carbon sheathes, flipping them backwards as they glistened with danger. They were unorthodox, and double bladed on one end, built for critical strikes.
https://i.imgur.com/7ZJvfw1
Damien himself got into a low stance, aiming keeping his daggers lower to his hip in a defensive position as a leg reached back and kicked his strange metal crate outside the range of the fray.

  • Zach wasn't one to wait; he launched himself forward, his feet pounding into the ground as he accelerated to his top speed in only a few steps, twenty three miles an hour. His straight sword was at his right side, gripped tightly with both his gloved hands. He was soon just in front of Damien, and turned in his dash so his right side was facing the man, swinging upwards diagonally with the blade, from his bottom right to his top left; Damien's bottom left to top right.

  • Zach's blade was met with one of the daggers, the blade sliding against the edge before twisting slightly to bring the momentum to a grinding halt, with the free dagger, Damien thrust forward, his helmet lighting up as combat diagnostics buzzed around him. "Eager indeed..."

  • Zach quickly pulled his sword back as he jumped backwards, narrowly avoiding the thrust, and it was clear to him now that he shouldn't fight carelessly here like he had elsewhere; rather, he stopped a few feet in front of Damien, holding his sword so the handle was above his left shoulder, the blade angled downwards so that the tip was pointed towards Damien's chest; a position that could both change into an offensive slash or a defensive parry.

  • Damien twirled on of the knives and dashed forward, sliding at the last second as he outstretched both blades to Zach's legs, each on curving to the side a little to slam into skin and leave cropping wounds if they impacted. Along with the slide, he kept a foot under himself to bounce back up or change angle in case of a counter attack.

  • Before Zach went far, a cold hand slightly covered in ice reached out stopping him. It was Haknir, the king of pirates. He spoke with a friendly tone that had an intimidating feeling behind it. "You have some great fighting skills, you know... perhaps you'd like to take your fighting to a higher level, with someone who's been at this for a long time?" He smiles strangely, hinting at himself.

  • Zach took a few more steps forward to get out of Haknir's grasp, before turning back and looking at the pirate king. The thought of taking his skills to the next level was definitely interesting, and so he considered it, looking Haknir over. "Depends," He said slowly, even though the decision should not have been up to him; usually, people asked for mentors, not the other way around. "On what I think I can gain from you."

  • Zach nodded, readying his straight sword. He didn't wait for Haknir's 'ready', rather simply rushed forward, his toes pounding into the ground of the courtyard as he accelerated to his max speed of twenty three miles an hour, showing the speed and agility of a man who had been training vigorously all their life; tying bags of sand to his legs, running straight sprints again and again in mountain climate, regardless rain or snow. He was soon right in front of Haknir, aiming a diagonal slash from his upper right to his lower left, across Haknir's chest.

After Ylon had exited the courtyard of the Dojo, a separate figure entered the fray. Standing at five foot six, the girl's body was engulfed in a pair of pure white robes with thick pockets, with bright red accents decorating them in a rather unique fashion. A white fabric hood hung from the back of the robe, while a red bow held the robe together at the neckpiece of the outfit. Underneath this was a thin, dark red plaid dress, while her white dress ended at her knees. Clothing her legs were white leggings, while the shoes she wore were black combat boots, tightened onto her as if she was actually ready for a fight. Her face certainly said she was. The girl appeared to be about eighteen, with high, shallow cheekbones, an angular face, smooth olive skin and a small nose. Her golden eyes darted towards the young man within the courtyard, her short, boyish brown hair gleaming slightly in the sunlight that boomed down upon her. Sheathed onto her back was a five foot eleven inch long claymore sword, the hilt of the weapon being crafted out of gold, as the blade was gleaming steel. A short sword hung at her side, with the singular name "Marcia" engraved into it's blade. The girl, presumably Marcia, grinned slowly at the man within the arena that had just defeated what had seemed to be the better fighter. "Hope you're still up for a fight. Better be, I won't be holding back." Her voice only said that she was nothing but a snobbish, self-centered person, and she couldn't have too many friends acting like that. In truth, it wasn't like she cared.

  • The moment she opened her mouth, Zachary knew instantly that he disliked Marcia. That wasn't saying much, as Zach disliked many people, and he didn't make many friends like that, either. He looked the girl over, his bright, blue eyes narrowing as they reached Marcia's face. He wiped what dust was on his New Magnesium straight sword off with his left, gloved hand, then gripped its handle tightly with both of his ambidextrous hands, ready for a duel. Silently, he wondered to himself if the rich, snobby girl even knew how to start a duel properly, but that was about to be found out.

Marcia didn't bother to remove her robes at the moment, she preferred to keep them on at all times. She had never dueled against one with a blade, but even then, there was a first time for everything. She reaches for the gold and steel claymore blade on her back, drawing the weapon slowly out of it's sheath with her thin right hand. She held it out at her side, while she raised up her left hand. A bright, translucent light began surrounding Marcia's left hand, swirling around her left arm and eventually, her entire body like a beautiful spectrum. She had tapped into the arcane, and revealed her magical capabilities to Zach. "...Impressed? Doubt you even possess the intelligence to pull some of this off!" Marcia's bragging nature took over as a loud, obnoxious laugh escaped her throat and sounded over the courtyard. Either she was really, really stupid...or this was just part of her plan. And writer to writer...yeah, she was just pretty stupid.

  • "You're wasting your breath," Zach sighed as he got low into a stance that would make for easy acceleration. He waited until Marcia was done showing off, which, if he was to be honest with himself, he thought wouldn't be for a while. He took one look at Marcia's magic and sighed inwardly; to Zach, magic was an obstacle he had to overcome if he was to ever be good at combat, as he had no mage blood inside of him whatsoever. Brandishing his sword, he tapped its tip twice on the dirt ground of the courtyard, taking slow, steady breaths. The same butterflies in his stomach that came right before anything competitive started, including duels, came to him; would he win? Lose? Would he tragically mess up? Would he do a single thing well? These questions flew through his mind, and Zach forcefully shut them out, telling himself to focus.

"Shut it!" Marcia yelled shrilly at Zachary, the grin still present on her face as a lust for violence could be seen within her golden eyes. She raised up her left hand, and slowly crushed her palm as she was slightly raised into the air. Marcia was hovering above the barren ground, and she held the golden claymore at her right side. She took a position within the air as if she was about to throw herself at Zachary in a rather violent fashion. (Take Flight = 50 MP) (1250 - 50 = 1200 MP Remaining)
