I don't want to be mean, but people need to learn to accept death without these convoluted and insane fantasies.
Some might say "well what does it hurt" and the answer is the entire human race.

I'm an atheist as well. But I can't prove that I'm right. We can't prove that they're wrong. Live and let live, dude. You're being more thoughtless and more annoying than Jehova Witnesses that don't leave after having asked them to thrice. This is just inconsiderate. @OP: Sorry for your loss. I hope you have a good picture of her somewhere. Preferable with yourself on it as well. I have one of those for all my pets I had and I have them printed out on canvas. That will always help me cherish the memories I've build along with those no longer with us.

Considering it's his great grandmother. This is probably the first death in his family that was close to him...I don't know you and I don't really care to. But that's the point EVERYONE on this earth is different, and experience different things at different times. So just think about that for awhile before you open your mouth and tell someone to just get over it. He's allowed to express his feelings how ever he chooses. What's the best part about that? There is nothing you can say or do to control his actions. Life is precious so let's try to show some respect and help our fellow guardian mourn his great grandmother in a grand and noble way.

YOU have no proof of an afterlife or lack of one. It doesn't have to be Heaven. It doesn't have to be God. But no one has the FACTS in this because no one alive has had the chance to give proof. If a person needs the belief that there is something after death so they can feel comfort, no one has the right to deny them. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IT DON'T READ IT. What you're trying to sell here isn't truth... it's your opinion which you are entitled to. However so is the one who has suffered.

Ppl have their own way of dealing with this. You shouldn't really s*** on that. It's about respect if nothing else. Sometimes it really is better to say nothing, I'm sure you don't want to give someone who is having a tough time an even tougher time mate.

There is a point when people need to start speaking up when other people start spouting off fairy tales; it isn't harmless, this thought and these traditions are incredibly detrimental to humanity.
