To preface, when I say stuff in first person, that is Ranger Grant. It will be how he works.
I look through my rifle sight. I see them. Those slaver bastards in crimson sports gear. I wanna squeeze that trigger right now, watch that feather-headed dickwad's head pop like a damn balloon. I hate them. I hate them all so much. I'd kill them all, every last one of them was is not for the person they had lashed to the cross. It was one of my troops, NCR. They had her put up on that goddamned cross, probably beat her and... I'd rather not think about that, actually. Bad things I'd rather not think about. Unless it's bad things happening to those assholes across the way. Only reason I wasn't taking my shot was that I knew they'd kill her as soon as I fired. Goddamn those cruel bastards. They'd nail a sweet girl like her to a fûcking cross. First chance I get, they're all dead. Every last goddamned one of them! It's a goddamned monument to inhumanity, that's what it is! I can feel myself getting angrier, feeling as if my blood was boiling. As dusk began to fall, I turned on the night vision in my helmet, pressing a button on the side. Once it was dark, I'd strike. I sat there on the cliff side, watching every movement of those psychopaths, until it was night. It began to rain, and as it as said, when it rains it pours. And that's what the sky did. It poured the rain, soaking my Ranger armor, as well as putting out my own little campfire for me. I had cooked some Gecko Kebabs earlier, before I knew they were putting her on a cross. The remains of them were washed over the canyon side, falling to the abyss below. I turn my attention to the bridge connecting the two sides of the canyon, and stare at the lone guard, right in the middle of the bridge. I pull my other, silenced rifle from my back. It packed less of a punch, but it'd be enough to punch through the Centurion's armor. Like paper. I sat their again, waiting for the others to go to sleep, so I could take my shot. As the darkness set in, I prepped to start my assault. Here I was, a lone Ranger, trying to go on some crazy rescue mission to save one of the Privates. It was worth it. I knew how good this woman was, as a person, and a soldier. The others had already gone to bed, and even she passed out, still on the cross. I lined up my reticle with the plumed fûck's head, and squeezed the trigger. Lucky for me, it was still raining, so the sound of the man's head exploding and him going for a little tumble into the canyon was totally silent. I moved forwards, the guard now dead. There was another guard, facing away from my position, towards her. I could see in his eyes what he wanted to do to her, until I burst them with a sniper bullet. He fell to the ground, dead. I creeped along the bridge, it creaking beneath me. The rain had let up by now, but not enough for the sleeping soldiers to hear me slipping up to their tent. I reached into my pack, and pulled out a C4 charge, along with a Mini-Nuke. I couldn't wait to see those Legion bastards go up in nuclear fire. I set the charge, with the Mini-Nuke on top of it, and snuck over to the cross. I looked at her. Her long, auburn hair fell away from her face, the result of the rain hitting her. Her skin was a slightly tanned color, but it looked red in places, probably where the Legion had abused her. Her NCR trooper armor was beat to hell. And had a few holes in it. I pulled my Bowie knife from my hip, and cut the bonds on her feet. I moved up to her arms, and held her up while I cut the bonds there, also. She fell onto me, and I could feel her heart beating against my shoulder. She was alive, thank God for that. I very slowly creeped back to the bridge, then crossed again. When I reached the other side, I cut the ropes holding it up. The bridge fell, and made a loud clattering noise. I pulled a detonator from my hip, and but my finger on the button. A bastard in red came out of the tent, and looked in fear over at the Ranger with the detonator. I smiled to myself. A Legionnaire in fear. That was a sight to see. "See you in hell, you red bastards!" I pressed the button on the detonator, and watched the fireworks. Rocks flew everywhere. This was even better than watching that Legionnaire! I turned my back to the explosion, and but the detonator back at my hip. I looked at her. "Don't worry. I'll get you somewhere safe." I pulled a glowing device from my pack, and pressed the trigger on it. We were gone in a flash of blue light. We arrived back at Dojoville, early morning. I walked through the streets, and up the steps to the Dojo. "I need a medic! Anyone! Anyone at all!" I burst through the gates, she was still slumped over my shoulder.
Open.
