Is it bad that I brought this game 3 months after release and I have no idea who Maya and Chioma are?

Nothing wrong with that. You don't need any of this story to enjoy destiny. I'm probably one of the few that likes the grimoire system. Destiny can be thoroughly enjoyed without reading any of it, and for those that do, can enjoy an entire different layer of the story without over whelming the actual game. If they tried to bring all the grimoire into the game, frankly it would be overwhelming I think. Bungie just needs to clean up the in game story a bit, but they have got progressively better each DLC so we will see with RoI

Iv been playong basically since release, and i dont know nearly everyone in the lore. I just no in game characters. Cayde-6? Check. Dredgen Yor? Noooo -blam!-ing clue. Lord Saladbin? Check. Effridet (or however its spelled)? I know shes got a sniper......? Etc etc.

I'm a beta and day 1 player, barely know any of the story. The game doesn't give it to me in game, and I don't need it to progress. I have two choices when I have free time (work and kids), play the game, or read the cards, so I choose to play. Would be so much more immersive if the game told the full story along the way. Or at least allowed you to view the cards in game. An option like "view lore" on specific weapons, or, like the armour and weapon boards, options to view all cards that have been collected so far. Preferably with cut scenes rather than just text.
