"What is "Elo" and what does it mean? From Wikipedia:
The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in competitor-versus-competitor games.
All players start at a baseline of 1200 points. You will take points from your opponent's Elo score by defeating them, and vise versa. Defeating a more skilled opponent will yield higher points than if you beat up on a weaker one. The higher the score, the more skilled the player. It is extremely difficult to maintain a high Elo score, these players are regarded as the best of the best! As your score rises and falls, you'll be categorized into leagues. Bronze: 0-1099 Silver: 1100-1299 Gold: 1300-1499 Platinum: 1500-1699 Diamond: 1700+ Each mode you play has its own Elo rating and league categorization. Beyond that, Elo is account-wide, so in Control you'll have the same rating whether you're on your Titan, Warlock or Hunter." Sources: destinytrialsreport.com and http://guardian.gg/en/faq My elo is currently 1864 for season 2. In season 1 it was 2141. Basically they average you and your team mate's elo out and match you up against a team accordingly or it may be individually. My team and I averaged between 1400-1500 elo combined and went up against a team that had 2200, 2100, 2200 elos (averaging 2150 elo) so definitely lopsided... surely if we won against them, they would lose a lot of elo points and we would gain 30+ elo from them or more. I think because my elo was the highest out of the group it put us against those 2100+ elo players whether it was based on individual or team average elo. I highly believe elo plays a part, and SBMM goes off of elo, to balance the teams out in regular pvp and to match you up accordingly... if your team is on the last match to go flawless and COINCIDENTALLY there is NO OTHER TEAM out there besides the SUPER HIGH ELO team that are on their last match as well, they'll put you in together. I still think it's bs. Another time a person who I don't play with regularly in Trials but whom I've known for a long time and isn't that good at pvp but can hold their own sent me this message:
Yo, you wanna play trials? The guys you get paired up with are way harder than the guys I play. I was wanting to play trials for awhile for fun. I just got online like 10 minutes ago.
Definitely SBMM based on my experience (an above average player) and my friend's experience (decent to low skilled player).
