i have been with bungie since LAN competitions in halo 1 and most likely will end things with bungie after rise of iron. i have played destiny since the beta and i do love this game despite its faults but i was dissapointed they chose to include custom games over fixing the ever worsening connection issues we've been having as far back as at least halo 2 and it never seems to be an issue they address. i pay 200 dollars a month for verizon fios quantum 300/300, when i play my xbox is the only device i have using the internet, i dont stream and i dont ever use wi-fi so i have perfect connection and super good internet yet bungie is a constant hit or miss game to game for myself and anyone i ever speak to. many of my friends and i are normally easily 2.0 k/d players yet this game between lag, and getting put in games where you are already losing by half the score to have to try to turn it around, people telporting, shots not registering, ect are reasons why we can't take the pvp seriously. you can go from a 5.0 to 10.0 k/d one game to a .30 the next which is very annoying, and it isn't because you are getting better opponents or somehow the way you play magically changed from the game you just played. bungie will tell you it isnt on their side, try resetting your console, go play with your router, whatever they can think of but it does not improve. i wouldn't mind playing the same 10 people in my home town everyday if it meant i could get some kind of stable matchmaking. loving the game, all we can do is continue to play for what enjoyment we can get from it

  • Just because your connection is awesome, doesn't mean your opponents is. That's the issue is they don't seem to look for good connections or take location into account.

  • nailed it. they're using the same goddamn networking code from Halo days and they are too stupid to fix it. I'm done after IB too.

  • The connection issue has little to do with what type of internet you have and more about what the other guy has provided you have a decent Internet provider and are hardwired. Bungies choice of going peer to peer is the cause of most connectivity issues when talking about PvP

  • i believe it i pay alot to make sure i have good internet for all my online necessities. my internet probably puts me in the top percent of best connections because i am way over most home internet speeds normal people would have. we know its bungies fault

  • I rarely have any type of connection issues... and I know im no where near as teched up as you... The P2P connections make it more about where you are and when you play.. so I guess im just fortunate in that sense... im also no too high or too low in skill for that to make a huge difference in matchmaking.. that 2.0 you speak of may not seem big to you.. but to a vast majority of the player base.. that is practically god tier... so you have SBMM features severely limiting your pool... so... I guess you did git gud.. too gud for Destiny? seriously though... if they ever get some damn servers I think you would be fine.

  • i wish they would get servers to make it enjoyable or go to connection based whatever they have to do. people on the forums will say play better or do this or that, most of us play just fine but we are battling connection more than we are battling better players, i can admit when i've been outplayed due to skill or making the wrong move in a game i've been playing games, bungie games in particular, for a very long time. i've never even strayed to cod or bf because i just like the overall physics (halo feel) of the bungie games in general so in no way do i degrade the game quality itself, i just point out through countless hours of observation and experience that the pvp connection is an issue holding back the potential of the game.

  • I truly think servers would solve 95% of all this connectivity shit... but eh.. im no expert and I don't control bungies bank account.. I wouldn't be living where I am if I was.

  • many of us would even pay for real servers, it wouldnt be as much as say WOW since there isnt nearly as much content but a few bucks subscription for nearly always decent connection wouldnt be so bad

  • You are my man!!! I am also an old school gamer and couldn't have said it better, then you. It's frustrating.............such a good game with such an amateur PvP. And i envy players with k/d's above 2. How do they do it? I think they probably have some kind of internet that Bungie likes.

  • skill definitely helps with k/d, practice, playing with skilled people and learning call-outs. this game many of us just battle connection issues which make us unable to play the way we should which is discouraging. things like shooting multiple shots into a guys back just to have him turn around with full health and kill you, or several people shooting an enemy as his health is literally going back up faster than you can take it down. an easy way to have a higher k/d besides just shoulder charging around with a universal remote or staying back sniping or playing it safe is to make sure you go into games with a full team especially one that communicates well. going into 6v6 games with a full team pretty much guarantees you wont get dropped into a lopsided match where most people have quit and are just being spawn farmed but certainly doesn't ensure good connection regardless of the quality of all your members connection. i love this game, i always say it, despite its faults it is a very good game

I'm a very competitive player for 12 years and i only played Halo's, Cod's and Destiny.....every day Also i agree that you have to have skills, you have to know the maps and know your abilities and know how to use them. I know all that, especially after playing PvP for more then 850 hours.........but have exactly the same problems like you, the most matches. I am complaining a LOT on this forum, already for 2 years now. But Bungie won't listen and some players are even making fun of me, just because they don't understand what i'm experiencing in Crucible. Here is one of my recent Topics. I bet you experience the same: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/211237791?sort=0&page=0

Personally, I think the problem you're talking about is more likely due to the "Damage Referee" Bungie incorporated into the game - not necessarily lag. Year one wasn't like this. It's been awful since February 2016, when the Referee was activated, and they've been tinkering with it ever since - the power to change outcomes in games.

  • year 1 was far more enjoyable other than boosters in rumble too sad to get their thorn bounty despite the plethora of available void weapons. i think damage referee, sbmm, and lag all make the pvp worse than it should be. i love destiny, i play pretty much every day, and i want to love the pvp they just make me unable. i play it occasionally until it starts getting stupid then i go help people in pve because it doesnt lag except once in awhile in a raid or something and it's more rewarding.

  • Year 1 was also bad, but not so bad as now.

  • My k/d slowly rose in year one to 1.20. Since then my k/d has slowly sunk to just over 1.0 since TTK dropped. I enjoyed the crucible a lot more in year one.

After 35 days (850 hours) crucible and many more days PvE, 8 days ago i decided to boycot Destiny, until the new DLC. I'm so dissapointed in PvP, that i don't even play other games. Still don't have a replacement for those hours in the evening, haha. I just play with my Samsung Gear VR

  • Want to know something truly pathetic? The Battelfield 1 beta, with 64 players, has little to no connection issues. A beta with 6x more people in a match plays smoother than destiny heading into its 3rd year. So sad.

  • Destiny Beta had no lag either. Just wait before you give Dice a trophy, as BF4 was a travesty for at least 6 months. I'm not saying it wont be better than Bungie, but just hold your horses on giving EA and Dice credit for a product not even on the shelf yet.

  • Exactly. The lag is crazy. It's rare to have 5 clean games in a row, especially because if you do in fact get a clean game, it's likey to be broken up next match because of SBMM. Typical scenario: Oh i suceeded against people in ny area? Now its time to play against the Spainards! Lag lag lag-----> rage quit. The system is so broken.

  • i myself dont have anything against latin americans in particular but with decades of gaming experience i have noticed that for some reason northeast america where i am has absolute terrible connection to mexico. you can see the location where people are and for some reason it just is absolute crap between here and there. i play with people from australia, europe, all over america, canada and they have way less issues. its still the way their system pairs us, there's no reason to be matching up to people where the connection is just about non-existent. every time i see the solid red bar im like "please just let them lag out so we can play". instead of damage referee they should have connection referee to disconnect people dragging the game down.

Spainiards are not Latin American. They are European. You probably thought i meant "Hispanic". I did not. Spain and Italy have notoriously poor internet connections compared to the rest of Europe. I do not know why. Though i am also in the NE US, so playing against Mexicans, Guatamalans or Brazilians also seems to just be an awful connection at times.
once i sent a message to an awful lagger. He replied "blame SBMM". I said "where are you playing from?" he said "Maryland, USA." I was in Philadelphia. If you can explain that, i'll give you a follow.
