Thank you for the TPLink tip. I might try that.

  • They're great. I didn't feel like running/punching cable for my in laws or my own parents. A couple of Zyxel Powerlines saved me some work and made them happy. Trendnet and tp link are fine as well.

  • Does it matter how fast the transfer speed is on them?

  • I think the transfer speed would depend more in the quality of the lines, the amount of interference, distance of the run (I'm no electrician, but whatever the equivalent of attenuation might be), whether it passes between circuits, etc. I doubt you'll ever see 500Mbps transfers on a 500Mbps powerline, but I hope it is sufficient for your needs. If not, it might be worth just running some CAT6 or high quality CAT5e.

  • Thanks! Appreciate the tip as well. I'm just a little concerned about performance loss if they're plugged in different circuits in the house. Some people say it's not very bad.

  • I don't know the recommendation on range. I couldn't find info on it when I bought them, but I haven't had any issues. The outlets don't even need to be on the same circuit. I actually considered using some for a couple of odd locations in one of my company's warehouses, but they don't work across phases so I didn't use them. Your home is almost certainly on a single phase, so it should not be an issue.

  • Good to know. Thanks.

  • Same. It's not really practical to get a cable to my basement, but I ordered an adaptor and excited to see if it makes a difference
