Good info. Unfortunately P2P means all of goes out the window if the other 11 people in the lobby aren't also doing this. Add to that the matchmaking trying to juggle 12 people using mc Donald's wifi hub on multiple continents, and it's not really worth the small improvement you may see. Good try though

  • Always the glass half full. What if 11 other guys in the lobby are doing this, and your the one that doesn't. I'd definitely report you if your lagging like a son-of-a-bitch. Do you think the 11 other guys won't do the same? The improvement, however slightly its perceived to be is still an improvement.
"Self improvement is masturbation" Tyler Durden

Maybe you should stick to that?
• Did you miss the part where I said it was good information? Twice? But it's usefulness is limited in this case because of the networking design. It's unfortunate that Bungie refuses to meet people in the middle. If anyone not skilled in tech trudges through the process of properly configuring their router, which can be a giant pain depending on the router and person involved, then Bungie should compromise by also doing the best they can with P2P networking. Eg region locking and connection based matchmaking.

  • Yes you are right, but the P2P config that we have relies on people actually being able to configure a router. Most people configured their router back when they had a xbox360 or PS3, or probably had it configured for them. Most people have not realised yet that PS4 and XboxOne need some need other ports open to work. And Destiny needs its own ports open as well. Thats what we got to work with, and every player is responsible for their own lag, but also partially responsible for other peoples bad experiences. People need to be aware that if they play online games, they need to some extent need to go out there and find information on how to set them up properly, instead of "Yo Bungie fix your shit" All I really wanted was for players to take a look at their networks again, when they were set up and whats changed since then. If everyone made some basic changes to their setup 70% of crucible issues would be resolved. Dedicated servers, more CBMM and regional filtering for matches would go a long way as well, but thats not what we got to work with right now hopefully D2 will have those things.

I completely agree with you. One of the most irritating things to me is that the next gen consoles came wireless without any sort of hoop to jump through and both XBL and PSN didn't change the minimum broadband requirements from what 360/PS3 used.
its not that I think you shouldn't be able to use XBL/PSN without a better internet connection, but it should prompt you to wire in without a minimum threshold. And/or do as you've suggested above
Another huge aggravation is that PS4 completely skimped on the wireless networking card. My PS4 can only obtain about 1/8th the speed wireless vs wired in, and the ps4 is housed in the same location as the modem/router. It also isn't capable of using the 5ghz band.

  • IKR. PS4 wifi was severely skimmed on. No 5Ghz no AC standard, and the chip on the board is considered the worst they could actually use.

  • Yeah it's dumb. You really can't blame them too much since the wired connection can get around ~400 down and 50/50 wireless (I'm fortunate enough to have fiber through google fiber) and those speeds exceed most averages, but it is extremely short sighted.
