I sell enterprise fiber, colo, etc. I get most of what you are saying and can figure out the rest if I dig into it. HOWEVER 99.9 percent of destiny players are not me. AND .....sadly even with my knowledge I am NOT going to jump through those hoops! I hardwired my xbox one to my xfinity box. I bought an ELITE controller to have a hardwire connection from my controller to my xbox.... P.S. you never mentioned that necessity. I bought a 90 down 10 up connection. Yea I know , packet loss, latency etc can still happen on a large connection based on traffic routing and your ISP throttling your network connection to limit your usage without telling you.....yadda yadda... My point? NO ONE is going to do all the advanced moving the xbox to a demilitarized zone or even port forwarding..... half the users are not the person paying the bill, half the users are minors, half the users are lazy as drunken slugs, and half the users dont give a d@mn. net net? anyone who does everything you mentioned is not married, and has no girlfriend, and has no full time job, and has some form of rainman syndrome. This is not a slam ....or insult to your post. Just plain facts.Your post was amazing reading, but that is ALL it was. will not be used in the real world.

 • Xfinity DNS is very bad in certain locations. P2P gaming is very DNS-intensive.

 • I just solved why you red bar on your xfinity connection. DNS-intensive operations on P2P-based gaming. Thus, it's your fault.

 • Rainman here, can confirm. Have already done all these things. They're solid advice though. Be like me. Be rainman. Do the things so I can dome you and not get hit behind walls.

 • I understand what you're saying too. I'm busy with a full time job and only managed to set up a fixed ip address and port forwarding only because it was having problems with other online games. Truth be told I couldn't be bothered if everything worked fine from The start.

 • I married with a full time job. I just have dork parts that engorge when I play with new tech. Like fixing an ip address takes 5 minutes and moving a console to a DMZ is putting a tick in a box and typeing in 3 numbers in a box. Not that advanced if you look bud I would say that if you try to do the stuff on a Cisco ASA firewall, it will be advanced, but on a home router, its mostly big buttons and check boxes.

 • Married with dog and full time job. Did all those things years ago. Using alI my consoles hard wired and expected port forwarding to be common knowledge. Shocked that none seems to know how to configure consoles for internet use. Unfortunately the times of simple plug in and play are gone.

 • Thank you for saying Demilitarized Zone, because that's the only thing I can think of for DMZ. The last third of this post may as well have been in Mandarin for me. That being said, I'd love to spend a weekend learning to at least comprehend this stuff. Any suggestions?

 • First off find the model number of your router . Easiest way is to login to the admin of the router or modem whatever you use. If your having Troy les call your Isp they might have added their own special admin to the router. Once that's done look at his post and look at the settings in your router , you'll need to goto advanced setting. No you don't need a class just be a bit observant. Also get the distance to your Xbox / ps4 to your router don't make a cable unless you have the gear , but buy a cable that is the necessary length once you've determined the cable route. You might find a huge increase in playability by just installing a hard line/ Ethernet cable. Dmz and fort forwarding, plus the others are all standard settings within the router itself . Once logged in you'll see what he's saying . Do a quick search online as well there's tons of good tutorials with pictures and specific I modem/ router setups which will help a beginner .

 • Mostly its fancy words for sections already in your routers control panel. Have a poke about. My advise is to draw a picture of whats happening to your network traffic as networking is an extremely abstract concept Basics is port forwarding and fixed IP. that's all its been for the last 10 years of internet gaming

 • Take a networking class. It's simple, just 2 years for an associate's degree. There are other options; apprenticeship, call Geek Squad/ Best buy, YouTube, or a friend that knows this kind of stuff.

 • Married, mortgage, full time job.. No kids though but there's one in the oven! Little baby guardian on the way.. Anyway I've done this too, did it a while ago, except the DMZ. Didn't need it but if I do have regular issues I'll look into it.
