For those of you using ISP provided hardware im going to assume you are using a Router/modem combo. I had this issue with att and they refused to give me just a modem. So if you do some googling you can find a way to dmz the proved hardward to YOUR router. This helps a bunch as that provided router is 9/10 times garbage, plus you are doubling the amount of time it takes to route traffic to your console because you are using 2 routers when you only need one. I recommend turning off all of the provided routing capabilities and dmz all traffic to YOUR router. This will essentially turn your provided router/modem into just a modem. Or if the option is available this can be accomplished in some router/modems by enabling bridge mode, which is soooooo much easier but very rare.
Also if you run into issues with your set up and lose connection to all devices, you screwed up somewhere. Luckly there is this nifty button recessed into most modems/routers that will reset to factory. This will come in handy.
Also when hard wiring, it is good practice to keep ethernet away from power cables as you can get interference and will slow traffic on your cables if they are not shielded.
Good luck guardians.
Thanks for the write up O.P. Helped me fill in some knowledge gaps.
