For those of you using ISP provided hardware im going to assume you are using a Router/modem combo. I had this issue with att and they refused to give me just a modem. So if you do some googling you can find a way to dmz the proved hardward to YOUR router. This helps a bunch as that provided router is 9/10 times garbage, plus you are doubling the amount of time it takes to route traffic to your console because you are using 2 routers when you only need one. I recommend turning off all of the provided routing capabilities and dmz all traffic to YOUR router. This will essentially turn your provided router/modem into just a modem. Or if the option is available this can be accomplished in some router/modems by enabling bridge mode, which is soooooo much easier but very rare. Also if you run into issues with your set up and lose connection to all devices, you screwed up somewhere. Luckly there is this nifty button recessed into most modems/routers that will reset to factory. This will come in handy. Also when hard wiring, it is good practice to keep ethernet away from power cables as you can get interference and will slow traffic on your cables if they are not shielded. Good luck guardians. Thanks for the write up O.P. Helped me fill in some knowledge gaps.

  • If you are using At&t uverse for your isp, it will only work with the equipment they give you.

  • I know, but I turned off the router functionality of the router/modem comba and dmz the isp address to my cysco router. I was just saying it is stupid that they don't have a modem only option.

  • Well, I used have comcast. I live in a duplex and all the wiring was there. Comcast just didn't have the house as 2 separate addresses. A month later they call me and tell me I can now get Internet through them. Had to go with att because I needed it for school. I'm like ten sec away from telling att to shove it though.

  • I had AT&T fiber optic for 2 years and it never went down. It was always consistent, but they coudn't get the upload above 3 Mbps. I became a serious gamer in the last year and after they told me I couldn't use a different router I went to Charter. Its only been 2 months and Charter has lost service twice- one time for 13 hours. I heard Comcast was great but it's not in my area.

Comcast is amazing. Great internet, shifty service..most of the time I don't care about the service cause I can service myself...heh heh...giggity. but yeah my upload is what's killing me. 45-50 down and 5 up...with Comcast I always...ALWAYS...had 50 down 25 up. My gf at the time would stream hulu, netflix, remote into work ect ect and I would never feel it. But yeah they told me the same thing with my stuff. This is why I dmz to my personal router lol. I win...kinda.

  • I find its cheaper than Cat7 cables :) I changed from Cat 5 to Cat 6 (and some tinfoil) and changed my lan from IP V4 to IP v6 and got 1.5 Mbps boost in speed on my lan. Totally worth

  • Hmm, haven't made the switch to 6 yet. Think I might have to look into that.
