Honestly, just buy a decent consumer-grade router, (they almost all support upnp these days), a decent docsis 3 modern, leave the settings as is, use DHCP, and yes, avoid using Wi-Fi if ethernet is possible. I don't know what crazy things you all are doing to complicate the crap out of your home networks, so QoS policies may be a good idea, but let's not go nuts here thinking that any of this will solve the issue of having a U.S. resident host a match with or against someone from, say, Australia.
