A Striker's view on Throwing Knives.

I know what you're thinking that my opinion is. "Throwing Knives 2 OP needed n3rfing". No. No, no, no , no , no and no. Seriously, why Bungie? What was the need. I can even list some reasons why you've just made a massive c0ck-up. 1. Throwing Knives rewarded a skillful aim. 2. They have a rather long cool down. 3. They rarely OHKD as the most ran the precision perk. 4. They were the Gunslingers only counter to other classes longer range melees. 5. It felt rewarding to land a clutch throwing knife. If these aren't the best reasons I apologise. I'm sure you can list some better ones below. I just can't understand the logical side of the persons brain who decided that throwing knives were unbalanced? If you had to you could have just removed the incendiary knife... Seriously, now I'm worried for shoulder charge, despite the range of the Stormcaller melee. For proof that the Stormcaller melee is bad just watch Nkuch's latest video where he melees someone on Black Shield from past the OHK range of a Party Crasher. Just know this hunters, we feel you. Edit: For those complaining that I am biased against warlocks I am not. I just have my views on their melees. Purely my opinion. I don't really want to see nerf posts on here either.

  • At least someone see's the light. I hate calling for nefs but if throwing knife was op then shoulder charge is the most OP thing in destiny. 100% Kill and with little to no effort. You don't even need to be facing the guy you want to hit. Just get close and hit that shoulder charge. I've killed people with it in some dodgy ways.

      • I don't understand the nerf for one reason. I get on hit by melees all the time that are just as strong as the throwing knife, at lest with the incendiary you had a chance of getting away, technically making less useful. why not nerf them? (as in all, not just hunters) why not just leave it alone?

        • This is a good post. I was BD/NS since pretty much this time last year. Any time I was killed by a Throwing Knife, my reaction would be "did he seriously get me with that??" or "how the hell did he hit that??" IMHO this was Bungie's least warranted nerf. I would have put this in the bottom 10% of abilities that needed a nerf.

        • You say all of this as if it was completely destroyed, which it wasn't. It only lost 10% of its damage, which basically makes it impossible to one hit with the incendiary knife on low armor targets. It can still do pretty much everything it did before the change, bar the one shot kills. This was a change that should be welcomed since it changed something that wasn't completely balanced while still keeping it viable.

Throwing knives were always a, "Well f*ck me I guess" calling card to me. Never really looked at them as OP, just a proverbial tip O' the hat. Dunno what the whole 'Domain of the Warlock' shenanigans is all about though, everyone has a ranged Marlee counterpart. We (being Warlocks) just have the longest melee strike. I almost view throwing knives as a second grenade. My only concern is that if the Amplitude perk is nerfed, what would be done to counteract it? Reduce it's range? I dunno the statistics behind it's increase as of yet (will do some research), but if it's nerfed then you might as well remove the perk. Now, I don't want to defend Amplitude, since there are many times where I look at a disintegrated body and think, "...now THAT was BS." My only concern is that if we keep nerfing melees; which we are now in a trend of doing, how long until over shields are messed with? Shoulder charge and Thunder Grip? Invisibility bullsh*ts? People complain about the nuances of classes so much that we are slowly sapping away uniqueness of classes. But that's just my 2 cents.
Incoming elitists who will play off my K/D or time played.
• I think the nerf is acceptable but also pointless in the sense that almost no one runs low armor cause there is no real reason to and almost no one runs burn knives cause the other perks are better. So overall the nerf didn't change anything. Bladedancer was hit worse than anything. I main a Nightstalker (don't like wombo before you say I do) and literally picked up Bladedancer again for the first time in years just a week before the patch dropped and even I can tell the nerfs were to severe. Seems like they are trying to make the subclass less accessible for casual players IMO, sure it's still viable but more and more Bungie are making things more "viable" and less great. Why don't they buff more things to match how effective something else is rather than just nerf everything? Sooner or later everything is gonna equally suck and nothing will be worth using.........

              • Why does Bungie feel the need to screw over gunslingers in pvp? I read the forums, noone called throwing knives op. They require a skilled hand. And dont get me started on tripmines.

                • Shoulder charge is fine, the nerf to the trip mine is the biggest problem for hunters now imo. I only run precision blade and never throw one without shooting first. The change made no real difference. Everybody knows that up close and personal a hunter loses everytime in the melee battle, maybe only blink strike gives them a chance. The fact trip mine just don't really kill anybody anymore means the only 'keep away' tool the hunter had is gone. I don't mind them not sticking to people but it was the only thing that stopped headless sprinting shoulder charging Titans.

                  • Yeah I feel bad for hunters right now. But seriously can we stop fighting each other and come together for once? Like a unite the classes type of deal.

                    • Atormcallers melee is long but has decreased damage....instead of talking about warlocks yet again you could actially think of a solution in the hunter class itself.

                          • It's dumb that if you get a headshot kill from the grave with one with the automatic precision regen perk, the perk does not trigger.

                            • I'm both with and against What knife does a good bit of damage to a LOT OF armor The aa is too high, I could throw it at someone's foot and still get a head shot The head hit box is 10 miles long... With: You ruined the knifes bungee ;-; 0 damage and now you can't do that cool 1 shot with a HC then a knife.... felt good...... not to mention the incendiary blade did the most damage..... I want something to get a head shot that isn't a baterang that flies to your aponent and will 1 shot kill with skill by reducing the hit box in pvp..... and knifes hit like hangers in pve....

                              • Of all the changes they made, the throwing knife nerf was the only one totally incomprehensible to me. I don't use it much so I don't really care, but it is odd. I almost wonder if the nerf was targeted more at people using it during melee bonus weeks in CoE? That's honestly the only context where it feels remotely OP.

Something I've never understood is the continued effort to make the change to throwing knives all about shoulder charge. It makes me wonder "is everyone here stupid?". If you're going to at least talk about unbalanced melee, talk about stormcaller melee with amplitude. It has the same range as throwing knife, is an actual basic melee the same as throwing knife (where as shoulder charge is not) autolocks and hits instantly. Obviously it can't crit, but that's hardly a drawback. Surely I'm not the only person that sees this? For those that think throwing knives should 1 shot, you're an idiot. https://youtu.be/CHcYux-o1y0 That's why, bear in mind this was made when auto rifles were at their worst.
