Most hardcore metal fans detest screamo haha, that tends to fall into metalcore, along with the crap like bring me the horizon and asking alexandria.
I personally dislike cannibal corpse but they are talented in their respected genre.
I'd recommend giving metal a shot, even if you need to start in hard rock and transition into it, as its such a deep genre that really feels satisfying to explore and develop your tastes to

That explains a couple of the other responses I've gotten. I have listened to Metallica and a couple other bands, just not regularly.

Yeah we're quite a touchy bunch :P And Metallica are good but they're a bit overrated imo, try not to go for the very mainstream bands because people get very overhyped about songs that aren't very beginner friendly.
